“We were originally considering building a small server room, but instead decided to use a NetShelter CX, which is something that we have subsequently added to our portfolio and deployed successfully for several customers,” said SoftCat’s Operations Director Doug Fawell.

“Thanks to the NetShelter CX, we will save $18,975 in capital expenditure on server room build costs, and have calculated in excess of $32,550 of savings annually: $24,420 in reduced rent due to saved space which we will use for additional telesales operatives, and $8,130 due to reduced energy costs – which, incidentally, is equivalent to a saving of 27 ton of CO2,” said Doug. “We were also able to save 15 weeks in installation time, compared to how long it would take to build a server room, so we were operational and selling much quicker.”

“With the NetShelter CX we have been able to create a standard IT solution for the majority of our Trade locations. We take delivery of the CX cabinets here at our headquarters in Yeovil where we kit them out with servers, routers, patching & telecoms as required depending on destination. These are then shipped around the country in batches.

A huge advantage is that a new site – our sites are growing and changing all the time – can be set up and running within hours. It is also very advantageous for us not to have to waste space on dedicated IT rooms, as that reduces the value of our retail space. One further plus point for the CX is that our trade spaces are usually quite industrial, so it helps that the CX can be fitted with dust filtration which helps to prolong equipment life and reduce maintenance.”Neil Sullivan, Head Of IT, ScrewFix Limited

Retail

How the CX helps in the Retail Sector• Devote your Retail Space to retailing, not to IT• Deploy mobile solutions which can adapt to interior and

location changes rapidly• Avoid sunk costs of building dedicated IT rooms which then

have to be destroyed, at a cost, upon vacating the premises• Build pre-configured pre-tested fully integrated solutions• Deploy these solutions quickly to site as required• Standardise on one solution architecture for a wide variety

of shapes & sizes of retail outlet

Education

“Keeping costs down and being environmentally friendly is important. The main thing from our point of view is getting the right solution for our needs” said Susannah Daniel, Head-teacher for All Saints Junior School.

“Our temporary accommodation meant that we do not have space for a traditional server room so a compact solution like this works well.

“This product fits snugly – and importantly in the classroom environment – safely into the corner of the room, and the sound-proofing means that the servers can be running in the background without disturbing the children,”

"The NetShelter CX looked like the best option because it was the least expensive compared to dedicated rooms or actively cooled racks, plus it had the advantage of being available worldwide.

The CX is a nice combination of all the things we were looking for, but I wanted to be sure so I got one for myself first. I installed 5 old HP DL380s, along with some other equipment. When I closed the doors for the first time I was literally amazed. The noise reduction was startling.

Over time I observed that the ventilation built-in to the CX was more than up to the task. Even in the summer, when our office gets pretty hot, the temperature inside the CX was rarely little more than the ambient temperature in the office.“Finn Nyman, Systems Designer & Technology Specifier at Alfa Laval AB
