Bloomberg LP has an Enterprise Data Management company – Bloomberg PolarLake, which was acquired in 2012. It focuses on financial markets

I don’t work for them. I work for Bloomberg Government (BGOV), which is an information source for anyone interested in how the federal government works

We are all part of Bloomberg LP

I direct BGOV’s government sales research, analyzing how buyers and sellers are connecting in the federal market

We turn data about contracts, opportunities, policies, regulation and legislation into actionable intelligence for decision-makers

BGOV has a big data problem – substantially similar to the problems faced by federal agencies

YOU NEED ENTERPRISE DATA MANAGEMENT BECAUSE WORKING WITH MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF DATA IS HARD

I’m here to provide you understanding of the problem and motivation to solve it, not provide a technical guide

At BGOV, I run a team of analysts who write and talk about defense, information technology and contracting. We rely on accurate federal contracting and opportunity data to make our assessments. But the data are messy

It isn’t possible to run a “market sizing” of EDM or big data in the federal market. My data – your data – won’t let me make the assessment I need to inform my customers – you! – of how much EDM the government wants.

EDM is a strategy to help you learn what’s happening in your organization. It requires setting up a systemic process for the creation, management and use of data in your organization

It sets up policy and processes. It determines who owns data, data structures, data types
