A MESSAGE FROM ROB BURTON, PRESIDENT & CEO HOAR CONSTRUCTION LAUNCHES WASHINGTON, D.C. OFFICE AND WELCOMES 10 NEW ASSOCIATES

I’m pleased to announce the opening of Hoar’s Washington, D.C. office, located just outside the city in a booming area of Virginia known as Tysons Corner. We are thrilled to enter the Washington market, which has proven over the years to be incredibly resilient, even in our recent recession. Hoar identified the Washington-metropolitan area as a market with remarkable potential for growth, and we are looking forward to a long-term and active presence. For nearly 75 years, Hoar has focused on bringing together teams of principled experts who share our commitment to building better: better buildings, better communities and ultimately a better industry. The Washington, D.C. team lives and breathes this mantra and we are excited to welcome this fantastic group of people to the Hoar family. In addition to sharing our vision and values, the Hoar D.C. team brings to the table decades of experience working in the industry and in and around Washington, D.C. Things are moving quickly in the new office and we are pleased to announce our first project will start in late summer. Elysium Fourteen is a 9-story, 56-unit apartment developed by Madison Investments, located in the highly sought after 14th Street corridor at 1925 14th Street NW. We expect great things from our D.C. team and look forward to building something monumental in our nation’s capital. Please join me in welcoming all ten of our new team members to Hoar.

LISA SCALA, DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

As the director of business development, Lisa Scala has to be ready to meet new people and forge new relationships at all times. It’s a good thing she’s always up for an adventure! Lisa has completed more than 30 scuba dive excursions, flown a helicopter, bungee jumped several times and run four marathons—just to name a few. When Lisa is not traveling the world seeking adventure, she’s spending time with family and friends or devoting time to local nonprofit organizations. She has more than 15 years of experience in the commercial construction industry, and created the Washington-metro area’s “Commercial Real Estate Networking Group,” which has grown to over 3,000 members and celebrated its 13th anniversary in June 2014. Lisa’s thrill for new experiences, combined with her passion for the community, exemplify the kind of progressive thinking and partnering spirit Hoar is built on.

JEFF CLEMENTS, PRECONSTRUCTION MANAGER

As a preconstruction manager in the Washington office, Jeff Clements is an expert at leading clients through the entire preconstruction process and a master at developing relationships with the local subcontractor community. Jeff has been an integral part of the construction industry in the Washington, D.C.-metro area for nearly 10 years. Before his career in D.C. began, Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State in Civil Engineering. Jeff originally hails from Webster, NY, a suburb of Rochester. (Yes, it does snow a lot there!) Jeff now lives in Sterling, VA with his wife Lindsay, and they’re expecting their first child in July. When he’s off the clock, Jeff enjoys skiing, biking, walking his dog and watching Penn State football. Jeff’s house is the place to be on game day—he brews his own beer!

KIM MORAN, OFFICE MANAGER

With 28 years of administrative experience and 19 years in the construction industry, Kim Moran brings unparalleled expertise and passion to the role of office manager for the Washington, D.C. team. Kim is also active in the local construction community; she is a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Northern Virginia chapter and chair of ABC’s Networking and Involvement Committee. Kim’s friendly nature and chatty disposition provide a warm welcome to the D.C. office, but she wasn’t always so outgoing. Kim was very introverted and shy growing up, so much so that she made her brother order for her at restaurants! Luckily, her 15 minutes of fame didn’t require any public speaking: Kim was once a “hair model” and made it into a nationally published Hair Style Book.

Kim is originally from Cleveland, OH, where her daughter Elizabeth currently works as a marketing coordinator. Kim and her husband now reside in northern Virginia. Kim’s son Matthew caught the construction bug and moved from Ohio to D.C. last September to get into the business. When not at the office, Kim enjoys working around the house, gardening, catching some rays at the beach, traveling and spending time with friends and family.

With more than 30 years of experience in the construction business, Mike is a principled expert committed to bettering both the communities in which we work, as well as the industry as a whole. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering/ Construction Management from Michigan Tech University, where he met his wife of almost 34 years. They now have three children. When not working, Mike enjoys spending time at the family cabin in Michigan and attending baseball games, as well as golfing, skiing and mountain biking. It’s no wonder Mike got into to the construction business—he also enjoys making home improvements and working in the yard.

As the director of preconstruction services, Jeff Huff embodies the partnering spirit and attention to detail that distinguishes Hoar. With more than a decade of experience in the industry, Jeff’s principled expertise and commitment to collaboration set our clients, partners and projects up for success. Jeff was born in Virginia and lived in Bowling Green until he was 10, when his family moved to Hackettstown, NJ. Jeff and his family remained in NJ throughout his high school career, and it’s a good thing they did—Jeff won his high school’s Heisman Trophy! When he’s not working, Jeff enjoys off-roading with friends and family: his wife Courtney, daughter Peyton, 5, son Parker, 3, and their two dogs Bear and Jax. Jeff also enjoys camping, mountain biking and working on cars.

DWAYNE FLEGER, VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS

Born and raised in Annandale, VA, Dwayne Fleger is a principled expert not only in the industry, but also in the Washington-metro area. Dwayne keeps things running smoothly with keen attention to detail and precise planning as vice president of operations in Hoar’s D.C. office. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Building Construction. When he’s not at work, Dwayne can be found working on his home—the 25+ year-old renovation project that never seems to end. He enjoys spending time with his wife, their two daughters and their yellow lab, Tucker. The family dog is not the first pet Dwayne has had, however. In college, Dwayne befriended “Buddy” the raccoon, who would come down from the trees and climb up on Dwayne’s shoulder whenever he called. No wonder Dwayne named him Buddy!

JEFF KRUSE, VICE PRESIDENT OF PRECONSTRUCTION

As vice president of preconstruction, Jeff Kruse leads by example, working alongside our clients, designers and partners to deliver the creativity, reliability and value that achieves success and earns trust. Jeff has more than 18 years of experience in the construction industry, and the training to back it up. Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree in Design/Architecture and a master’s in Building Construction from the University of Florida. When he’s not on the job, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife Eileen, whom he has known since the 10th grade, and his daughters, Emily, 13, and Miya, 9. Jeff coaches Miya’s soccer teams, which combines all of the things he enjoys most—family, sports, competition, mentoring others and out-thinking people! Jeff’s passion for outsmarting others began at an early age; he learned how to read and write upside down and backwards when he was a kid from watching his mom teach his brother from across the table!

MATT BRUCHEY, ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE

Matt Bruchey brings more than 15 years of experience managing construction projects to his role as account executive. Originally from Frederick, MD, Matt earned his Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering from Penn State University. His extensive experience, training and passion for the job make Matt the kind of principled expert that inspires Hoar’s success. We’re not the only ones thrilled Matt took his talents to Washington; his wife Amy also went to Penn State, but they didn’t meet until after college when they were both living in D.C.! They now have two sons, Tyler and Timmy. In his free time, Matt enjoys staying active— gardening, hiking, biking, running, skiing, swimming, golfing and playing with the kids. He’s even skied three Olympic Men’s downhill courses (Lake Placid, Squaw Valley, and Whistler Blackcomb ski resorts). Matt says he’s not nearly as fast as the Olympians, but we bet he could give them a run for their money!

PETRA SHONNARD, PRECONSTRUCTION MANAGER

Originally from Karlskoga, Sweden, Petra Shonnard brings more than seven years of expertise in the industry and the Washington area to Hoar’s D.C. office. As a preconstruction manager, Petra uses her passion and creativity to collaborate and engage with our clients and partners. When she’s not at work, Petra enjoys spending time with friends and family—a husband who loves the Steelers, and two little girls who love to play outdoors. She also enjoys travelling and reading—and actually understanding—the IKEA catalogue! Before her career in construction, Petra took advantage of the opportunity to travel and served as an au pair—twice!—in 1999 and 2005.

JOE CRAMER, GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT

Hailing from a long line of construction superintendents, it’s no wonder Joe Cramer is a master at his job: he was born to it! Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, four of his uncles and his brother, Joe embodies the passion, skill and expertise that marks Hoar’s principled experts. For Joe and his family—including his superintendent son—construction is more than a job. It’s a calling. Though Joe can be seen most often in a hard hat, that’s not the only headgear he’s worn—he once filmed a commercial in the mid-80s for ‘All Pro Hats.’ When Joe is not on a construction site, you can find him with his wife Anne Marie spending time on their farm, fishing or just enjoying the outdoors.
