Phil ProvostPhil Provost Councilman at LargeA new face to the Republican ticket is South Adams

Middles School U.S. History teacher Phil Provost. Phil has called Berne home since 1994. He graduated from South Adams in 2001 and IPFW in 2007. Phil is entering his fourth year of coaching and teaching at S.A. He is part of the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Phil and his wife Haley have one son, Jacob. Haley is a nurse at Lutheran Hospital.

Mr. Provost believes that Berne personies small town America. “I love what Berne stands for with its heritage, its values, and the way our community works together to ensure the pursuit of happiness for its

residents. My vision for Berne is that these qualities would be maintained and strengthened. We have in recent years seen a nationwide, fundamental eroding of

the freedoms, ethical/moral standards and personal responsibility that once were originally responsible for creating the greatest nation that earth has ever seen. I condently believe that if we at the local level recom-mit to the principles that once guided our social, economic and political lives, we will regain our stand- ing as the ‘Shining City on a Hill.’ As I tell my 8th grade students every year: If we can commit to these standards we can change the entire school. If we can change the school, we can change the entire commu-nity. If we can change the community, we can change the entire state. If we can change the state, then we can change our nation. When we do that, we will change the world. is is the reason I’ve chosen to run for Berne City Council.”

Being one of the owners in the family-run furniture store, Bernhaus Furniture, Curtis brings to the council wise insights from a local business. He has been the council’s key voice on the Board of Public Works and Safety.

Mr. Wurster states that “My vision for Berne is to continue to be a community of families, to treasure our small-town, our friendly and walkable neighborhoods, and blend in distinctive Swiss architecture business

areas. We live in a clean and well-maintained com- munity. We have plans to meet and share local traditions and events that celebrate our history, community and bright future.”

Curtis and his wife, Jeannine (Fletcher) are the parents of two children, Kirsten and Caleb.

e Wursters are members of the First Missionary Church, where Curtis has served as Treasurer for 13 years. Jeannine is a teacher in the South Adams School System. Kirsten will be geing married in August and Caleb will aend Indiana University in the fall as a freshman.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Berne as a councilman. I love Berne and look forward to the challenges that our city may face in the months and years ahead. e city must continue to provide current services using the resources we have while thinking of new and beer ways to be more ecient. My economic development vision for Berne would be the establishment of a business technology center that would create jobs in the medical and infor- mation technology industry. Our city government must continue working with local retail, small business and industry; to help maintain our existing work force while seeking new economic development opportunities. ”

“I am blessed to have had the opportunity to raise my family in Berne, and I am commied and dedicated to improving the quality of life for all citizens. I want to thank the citizens that have given me the opportunity to serve them, and I hope to have their support and condence again as we all work together toward a beer community.”

can experience that same type of growth over the next 10 to 20 years. e foundation has already been laid by past city councils and mayors, the Berne Chamber of Commerce, the Berne CDC, local businesses, and residents that believe in the ideals that Berne stands for. If we become a community of distinction, known for the integrity and family friendly environment we already have, I believe we will aract more businesses and citizens to our community. I am humbled to be asked to run, and if elected, I will gratefully serve the people of this community.”

of the Berne Republican Central Commiee and vice-chairman of the Adams County Republicans.

“My vision for Berne is for the city to continue to have the funds to provide for the services that citizens come to expect. In light of the property tax caps and the economic recession, this was a dicult task to accomplish. However, I am thankful that several years ago, working along with the Mayor, the budget was reduced in preparation for the years of reduced revenue. While I’ve seen cuts to some non-essential items, services such as police and re protection, and sanitation pick-up have not been cut or reduced.”
