Meet Our New HOME Staff

Meet Our New HOME Program Assistant, Arielle Nickens

Greetings everyone! In August I began as the new Program Assistant

for the HOME program. I am glad to be working in such a great

community, contributing to the remarkable services and experiences

HOME provides. I am pleased to be working with great staff and getting

to know the job. Outside of work, I’m busy raising two sons, we enjoy

watching basketball and we also love going skating. I look forward to

an exciting year.

We are hiring! Do you know someone that would like to do lawn mowing for the season? We are looking for dedicated individuals to provide lawn care for our clients on an on going basis. Requirements are a lawn mower, reliable transportation, hard worker, cheerful attitude and commitment for the season. Interested applicants should contact Marcy Markovich at 952-767-7886 or e-mail [email protected].

Introducing Marta Carlisano , Our New HOME Marketing Assistant Marta joined the HOME team in February of this year and will be based out of our Bloomington Creekside office. She will work to help spread the word and promote the many ways HOME is able to help seniors. Marta has a BA in journalism and most recently worked at Brookdale Assisted Living. Marta has two daughters who graduated from the University of Minnesota this year. In her spare time she enjoys cooking and participating in classes at the Edina YMCA.

Senior Partners Care (SPC) is one of the best kept secrets in Minnesota. Senior Partners Care

is not insurance. It is a community based program that enables Minnesota Medicare recipients to

access the medical care they need. This program bridges the financial gap between their medical bills

and their Medicare coverage. SPC has partnered with most of the major metropolitan area hospitals

and hundreds of clinics and providers statewide. These healthcare providers (SPC Partners) have

agreed to accept Medicare as full payment for Medicare covered expenses. They waive the Medicare

deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. For program details and applications:

“Thank you for sending out the volunteers. They did a superb job of raking and pulling weeds in our backyard,” wrote clients Barbie & Bob. During the fall and winter, volunteers helped with yard clean-up, window washing, and other tasks. A list of our wonderful helpers is in the center section of this newsletter along with a big thank you! HOME clients deeply appreciate the efforts of volunteers who assist with a variety of chores that improve their quality of life. United Health Group assisted several times during the past year. Do you know that yardwork is a fantastic team-builder for families, friends, co-workers, youth or any type of group ? Improve your health while helping a senior! Individuals and groups are welcome to assist on a one-time or ongoing basis. The schedule is flexible but we do need advance notice due to logistics. If you know of anyone who would like to become a volunteer, please have them contact Jeanne at [email protected] or 952-767-7894.

Thank You Volunteers

The FREE Home Health and Safety Assessment service continues! This service is made

available through grant funding from the state of Minnesota. The assessment offers a one-to-one

visit in your home, with a safety assessment expert, who will look for safety concerns including:

tripping hazards, grab bars and inadequate lighting around your home. After the inspection, we

will work with you to complete the recommended repairs. For any questions about this HOME

service or to sign up for a safety assessment feel free to contact Jon at the HOME office at

952-767-7896. You can also sign-up for an assessment on the insert registration form!

Do you help out an older neighbor or friend with rides to the doctor, grocery shopping, or in other ways? That makes you not only a good friend,

but also a caregiver. Senior Outreach & Caregiver Services, another program of Senior Community Services, offers many services for caregivers. The friendly staff can help by finding resources, consulting on solutions when problems arise, making educational presentations and facilitating family or caregiver support groups. Computer-savvy caregivers can coordinate care for a friend or family member with a simple free care team tool offered on the agency-sponsored website at CareNextion.org. Homemaking Do you need help with routine house cleaning? We have wonderful homemakers who can give you a hand with vacuuming, dusting, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, changing bed linens, laundry, grocery shopping and errands. Cleaning help is provided on a regularly scheduled, on-going basis. We do not offer one-time or occasional “as you need it” service. There is a 2 hour minimum per visit. Services are eligible for our sliding scale hourly rates based on income. Please call Valerie at the HOME program for more information or to sign up.

Volunteer Groups Each year many marvelous individuals and groups of volunteers assist HOME clients with yard clean-up, weeding, window washing and other chores. You can request volunteer help, provided at no cost, by completing and returning the sign up sheet insert. We do ask that you, or someone from your household, is home when volunteers are present and that you provide supplies such as compostable leaf bags. Be sure to sign-up early! Our volunteers are very busy each season and we make every effort to get to as

many clients as possible. For questions about volunteers, call or email Jeanne at 952-767-7894 or [email protected].

HOME Spring & Summer Services

Minor Repairs Do you have a “honey-do” list of minor repairs? Our outstanding maintenance workers are available to help replace faucets, install grab bars, replace doorknobs and much more. There is a 1 hour minimum per visit. Rates are based on your household monthly income. Please request service by calling Marcy at the HOME program.

Lawn Mowing HOME has workers that will mow your lawn every 7—10 days (may vary dependent upon the weather and growing conditions). Trimming around walks, etc. is done once a month. Clients do need to sign up for the season. We are not able to staff for one-time, on call service. Mowers furnish their own equipment and do not charge for travel time. There is a 1 hour minimum and rates are based on your monthly household income.

Painting Spring is in the air! Have you noticed that there are rooms in your house that need freshening up? Or maybe a deck or sunroom that needs another coat of paint? HOME painters can help! Our workers are able to do both interior and exterior painting. Hourly rates are based on your monthly household income. To request painting contact Marcy at the HOME program.
