And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quar-ters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.Revelation 20:7-9

Old Testament:Generation to Generation the Lord is Still Our Banner

During this great' battle we learn that when Moses' hand was lifted up unto God, Joshua and his men were victorious. When Moses began to get weary, the hand hold-ing the rod would lower and the enemy would prevail.

Aaron and Hur, being with Moses, noted the situation and began to help Moses hold up his hand and thus prevail over the enemy.

Today, God is still fighting our battles and the situation remains the same. We must remember that the Lord is still our banner and we need to call on him throughout the bat-tles we face by lifting Him above our situations.

We will prevail by holding onto God's unchanging hand! Moses had a great supporting cast as Aaron and Hur helped him. Likewise, we must help one another and remember each generation will have earthly battles.

A New Testament Banner

Jesus said "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me." We must lift up Jesus by conforming to the word of God and following the examples set by Jesus.

By doing this, the world will see Jesus through us, causing men to be drawn from sin and to Him. We must stay focused on Jesus while on a sinful earth. God the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit will never change.

Let us remain the saints we are called to be and always express that God is still in control. Lift Him up and leave our former sins behind.

With the Love of God, Rev. Dr. Andrew L. Smith Sr. Pastor

And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi: For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. Exodus 17:9-16

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. John 12:32

Greetings my brothers and sisters,

Praise God for another opportunity to bring you our Graduation/Summer Quarter Newsletter. In spite of the madness going on all around us, we are still blessed. Our theme for the newsletter is: “Meet Jehovah Nissi- The Lord Our Banner”. We will also be highlighting graduation, Father’s Day and the summer.

First, I’d like to say, “Congratulations to all of the 2020 Graduates!” Graduation is important, it shows that the work that was started has now come to a completion. The graduate is ready to move on to the next step. May God continue to lead and guide each of you along your way. Always give your best in what you are doing, The Lord will be please and so will your family. Don’t look at what others are doing, just walk your paths, that will give you cause to celebrate.

Speaking of celebrating, we will celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday, June 21st this year. “Happy Father’s Day” to all of the fathers of our Little Bethany family. We will not be able to celebrate the way we usually do because of the pandemic! We are so sad that we will not be able to prepare a meal and fellowship at the church this year. But we can still honor fathers during this time. If your father is still living and you can spend the day with him, you are truly blessed. If you cannot be near your father, grandfather, godfather or father figure, thank God for modern technology which gives us many options for staying in touch. If our fathers have gone home to be with The Lord, we can spend time thinking about them and sharing our memories.

When I think about memories, I think of all of the memories we are able to make during the summer season. These include celebrating the 4th of July, the Church’s outing and cookout. We also have our own family events and vacations. This year will be different! Most of us will not take vacation trips because our health and well-being are more important than getting away to a new location or a favorite place. Instead, we can do a “Staycation”! Find ways to enjoy the warmer weather that The Lord blesses us with near home. Enjoy and appreciate your own backyard or balcony. If you don’t have those spaces, go outside but do it safely. Find a park or water area near you. Practice social distancing and protect yourself and family.

The word “Protection” reminds me of our theme for this quarter: “Meet Jehovah Nissi- The Lord Our Banner”. This term means that the Israelites were united and identified as God’s People. The banner helps to identify them. It can also be seen as a rallying point for troops in a battle. In Exodus, chapter 17, we are told of a battle that the Israelites had with one of their enemies, the Amalekites. Joshua led the fight while Moses, Aaron and Hur stood above them on a hill top. As long as Moses’ hands were up, the Israelites were winning. If Moses’ hands dropped, the battle turned in the Amalekites’ favor. When Moses became too tired to stand because of the long battle, Aaron and Hur gave him a rock to sit on. Each of them held up one of Moses' arms until the battle was won. In Exodus 17: 14-16, we read what happened after their vic-tory. It says, “And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-Nissi: For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalekites from generation to generation.” Moses under-stood that it was The LORD who would fight and win the battles for His people. God needed his people know that He would bring them victory.

As Christians, we need to remember that God will bring us victory too. Right now our world is battling with the Corona-virus and racism gone wild! It is very sad and dishearten-ing to watch the evil going on around us. We must go to God in prayer and ask for wisdom and guidance.

As always, it is our desire that this newsletter meets your needs. We pray that you are informed, inspired, educated and entertained. If there is anything we can do to serve you better, please let us know. You can leave us a mes-sage at our Newsletter email address: [email protected] or at our website: www.littlebethany.com. We pray that God will continue to bless and keep you in His Care. Remember our theme during this difficult time, “Meet Jehovah Nissi- The Lord Our Banner”. We can trust Yahweh to take care of us.

Yours in Christ,Sister Janice Stutts

The overall theme for this Summer Quarter is Kings and Leaders. Last quarter we studied the Messianic Prophecy which detailed the coming of our Saviour & King. Often I refer to the Old Testament as the why because it tells us why Jesus had to come and fulfill the roles He did.

Unit I: The theme for this month June 2020 is Israel’s Early Leaders. Ehud Defeats Moab. How was he able to accomplish this? Who is Ehud anyway? The Call of Gideon. How does God choose His leaders or was he chosen by God? Gideon Defeats the Midianites. Did he use a WMD or was he just smarter than his enemy? Samson Against the Philistines. The difference between brute strength or Grace of God. Samson’s Final Victory to Samuel’s Leadership Brings Victory. Victory gained with two distinct approaches? We’ll see.

Unit II: The theme for this Month July & August 2020 is Saul A Flawed King? Israel Demands a King. If God is your leader do you need a King? Saul Anointed King. With anointing comes great responsibility. Saul’s Disobedience Under Pressure. The decisions of the leader cannot be done under the influence.

Unit III: The theme for the month of August 2020 is David: A True King. David Against Goliath how he do that? Saul’s Attempts on David’s Life. Why is Saul so upset with David? David’s Grief for Saul and Jonathan but, wasn’t Saul trying to kill David? Hmmmm? David King Over All Israel. What qualified David for this position? Study and participate in Sunday School for these answers and more!

My brothers and sisters, because it was just too much material and not enough space on this page to fully explain the Cry of Judah, I have posted a link to an in-depth teaching on what it really is. I am available for any questions if you need to ask, but I have a feeling you will understand. For those of you who were in BTU when we studied CERN, it is the same teacher.

Let those who have ears hear what Holy Spirit is saying to the heart of Judah.

Brothers and Sisters, every quarter I will bring you lessons from some of the various topics I study that I think will be of interest to you. Also please feel free to sugest or ask me questions about something you would like for me to look into.Sis. Michelle Norwood

Trouble in Your Colon

You may be having trouble in your colon (the large intes-tine). Small pouches may have formed in your colon wall. Many people have this condition, called diverticulosis. If these pouches become infected or inflamed, a painful and more serious condition called diverticulitis has developed. Aging may contribute to colon conditions. But eating plen-ty of unprocessed, high-fiber foods may make a difference in the health of your colon.

Diverticulosis: Pouches FormWithout enough fiber and water in your digestive system, stool becomes harder. Your colon’s muscles have to squeeze more to move the harder stools through your colon. That extra pressure can cause the lining of the colon wall to bulge out into pouches called diverticula. This usually occurs in the colon’s muscular, lower left section (sigmoid), though it can also occur in other parts of the colon. Diverticula may take years to develop and there are often no noticeable symptoms. If you do have symp-toms, they might include mild cramping, bloating, constipa-tion, diarrhea, or urgency. In rare cases, heavy rectal bleeding can occur with diverticulosis. Any bleeding, even small amounts, should be reported to your doctor.

Diverticulitis: Pouches Are InfectedDiverticulitis occurs when the diverticula become infected or inflamed. The cause of these infections is unknown, but it’s possible that they begin when stool lodges in the open-ing of the diverticula. Infection can lead to complications such as swelling or rupturing of the diverticula. Symptoms often include pain, fever, and chills. In severe cases, infection of the abdominal cavity (peritonitis) may result.

Your EvaluationTo diagnose your colon condition, your doctor will take your medical history, examine you thoroughly, and do one or more diagnostic tests. After the evaluation, your doctor will talk with you about a treatment plan to control your condition.

People everywhere, every day have to deal with many different diseases and health problems. No matter if you're relatively healthy, showing symptoms of sickness, or have a chronic disease, you should have constant communication with your doctor.

keepINg It real

Sis.Shelia Greer

Your Medical History and Physical ExamWhat are your symptoms? If you feel pain, where exactly do you feel it? Have you had similar problems in the past? What kinds of food do you normally eat? Your doctor will ask you questions like these before doing a physical and rectal exam. Your stool may be examined, as well.

Diagnostic TestsDiagnostic tests such as a barium enema, sigmoidoscopy, or colonoscopy may be used to help pinpoint your problem or rule out other colon disorders. Imaging tests, such as a CT scan, may also be done for further evaluation.

Managing Your ConditionTreatment for your diverticular condition depends on its severity. If you have a mild case of diverticulosis, changing your diet may be all you need to do to keep the condition under control. Your doctor may also prescribe medications to help relax your colon and relieve pain. Diverticulitis often requires additional treatment.

If You Have DiverticulosisThe two main keys to controlling diverticulosis are liquid and fiber (roughage). Fiber absorbs water as it travels through your colon, helping your stool stay soft and move smoothly. Plenty of liquids and high-fiber foods can often keep diverticu-losis in check. Over-the-counter stool-bulking agents may also help. Some cases of diverticulosis may require stool softeners or antispasmodic medications for pain. Talk with your doctor about how exercise may also help.

If You Have DiverticulitisIf your diverticulitis symptoms are mild, your doctor may begin treatment with a temporary liquid diet and oral antibiot-ics. Then, if your symptoms are relieved, a high-fiber diet may be started. If your diverticulitis is severe, you may need hospitalization and IV (intravenous) antibiotics. Surgery may be necessary if other types of treatment don’t successfully control your problem, or if complications develop.

Keys to Colon HealthAfter you’ve been treated for diverticulosis or diver-ticulitis, you can help keep your colon healthy with the right diet. Include plenty of high-fiber fruits, veg-etables, and whole grains in your meals. Also, drink plenty of liquids such as water and juice. Your doctor may also recommend avoiding seeds and nuts. Small diet changes can prevent future problems.

Get Enough FiberYou need 25 to 30 grams of fiber each day to keep your colon working at its best. It’s easier than you may think to add fiber to your diet. Try choosing the fiber-rich foods listed in the boxes. For even more fiber, you can add pure (unprocessed) bran to your food or drinks. You can top cereal with pure bran, add it to a baking recipe, or stir it into some juice Your doctor may also recommend a stool-bulking agent such as psyllium or methylcellulose.

Get Enough LiquidsLiquids help your body to digest food and move it through your system. Most people should drink at least 8 glasses of liquid each day (but avoid coffee and sodas, since they may cause spasms and pressure in your colon). Talk with your doctor and consider the following ideas:

• At work, bring a bottle or a jug of water with you. Pour yourself a cup every hour or so.

• With your meals and between meals, drink plenty of liquids.

• When you exercise, take water with you to replenish the liquid your body loses.

Support Your Child• Casually talk with your children about their under-

standing of, and feelings about, what is happen-ing in their world. Talk to each child individually since the conversation may end up being different depending upon their age and personality. They may have inaccurate information that makes it even more scary.

• Let your children know what you and your family can do and are in control of (e.g., staying home; proper hygiene) and that grown-ups have a plan to deal with the virus, even though it will take time. Just make sure that you believe what you say before reassuring your child!

• Ask how your children feel about the changes in their daily activities. Some children may not be anxious because they like the extra time at home. However, some children are overwhelmed by the change in their regular routine and their fears of illness. Just being able to share these feelings can be a relief for many children.

• This time at home can be an opportunity. Ask your kids to share their ‘wish list’ of family activi-ties. You can also add some. Having everyone at home can be a great time to play games, teach each other about interests, tell stories about ancestors, or make up silly stories.

• Since we must physically distance ourselves from each other, this is a great time to look for creative ways to connect or reconnect with friends or fami-ly. Encourage your child to mail thoughtful cards to relatives or send e-mails. Try video chatting using social media to help your child connect with others. Since children are home and separated from friends, they may feel isolated. Try to sched-ule times when your kids can have virtual get-togethers with friends over one of the social plat-forms on the internet.

Ease AnxietyWhile not all children are anxious, many are wondering if the virus will harm their relatives or themselves. They may worry that they won’t be able to return to school or other activities. If your child experiences anxiety or even anger at COVID-19, here are some tips:

• Validate feelings. Remind your child that no emotion is wrong or bad. If your child feels uncomfortable, repeat back what you heard your child say so he or she feels validated.

• Manage the media. Discuss and focus on lots of topics, not just the virus. This may mean turning off the televi-sion, at times. Kids can get overwhelmed with the media coverage. You can take the news information and decide what to share, and how to share it, with your kids. Knowing your child, you can decide whether even mini-mal to no exposure to the news is appropriate.

• Create a Routine. Try to set up a regular location to do school work and stick to a predictable routine. Print up a daily schedule. During weekdays, put into the schedule lunch, recess, snack time, then add in the academic sub-jects. Add in other fun times. Perhaps you can add in a ‘hobby period’ or a ‘family game time’.

• Use calming strategies. Along with your child, try these strategies:* Slow counting. Count from 1 –10 (younger children) or

slowly count backward by 7’s from 100 (teenagers).

* Muscle tension/relaxation. Start at the top of your head and then tighten that muscle (e.g., forehead) for three seconds, then relax it before moving to the next muscle (e.g., facial cheeks). Just remind your child to only tense lightly.

* Slow breathing. You can take slow, deep breaths through your nose for a few seconds. You can pretend you are breathing in the smell of your favorite food. Hold that breath for 2-3 seconds, then slowly breathe out. A child can imagine slowly moving a feather across a desk. Repeat this a few times.

* Mindfulness. Focus on the present. Have kids focus on what they can see, hear, smell, touch, and even taste right then. Sometimes they may need help to focus on what’s happening right now rather than thinking about ‘What if’s’ about the future.

* Positive self-talk. Focus on what can be con-trolled. Positive self-talk could be, “I now have time to do some of my artwork!” and “The adults are working on stopping the virus. I can work on doing my schoolwork and having fun!”

As parents, you may never again have this amount of intense family time. Take advantage of it! Communicate your excitement about part of this expe-rience and your child may pick up on your positive energy. Maybe you can learn a new skill together over the internet, such as baking or how to juggle. Just make sure the activity is enjoyable and not frustrating for your child.

Keep the lines of communication open with your child, accept all feelings shared, and help your child deal with any anxiety that may be present. Keep to a rou-tine. Teach positive self-talk. Explain to your child that staying home and the change of daily activities is actually doing something to combat COVID-19.

If your child, however, is having persistent anxiety, sadness, irritability, or having other symptoms of stress (e.g., change of behaviors; sleep or appetite changes), it’s time to consider seeking professional help to help your child to navigate through this difficult time. Even though we are necessarily physically dis-tant, help is still available.

While supporting your child and being kind to yourself, remember to enjoy the silver lining – you have your family together and can create new and wonderful memories!

did you know?

We have started a new page in our newsletter. It will be filled with information and questions for and about parents and children.

Sis, Jacqueline Smith will be charge of this page. If you have information you would like to share or questions you would like answered, please send them in to us. Thank you.

Sis. J. Smith has a recommendation for a trauma informed book which would be excellent for times like these, it is entitled: “Once I Was Very Very Scared”.

New Page has been added to the Newsletter!

A member of our Little Bethany family ask me who does what and how do they do it to make our Zoom meetings possible. I did not have all of the answers so I decided to ask questions and then share the information. I believe that it is helpful when we have a better understanding of how things work.

Sis. Felicia Phillips set up Zoom from the beginning. She is our main host. Sis. Felicia prepares most of the Power Point Presentations for the Sunday School Lessons, SS Preview, Basic Bible Study classes, Children Ministry Meetings, Baptist Training Union and the Pastor’s ser-mon. She also opens the Zoom Room for our classes and schedules meeting.

Sis. Michelle Norwood is her co-host for some of services. Sis. Phillips created the opening screens for our services, but Sis. Norwood shares them from her computer. She also shares the Choir selections at our Morning Worship Services. Bro. Lonnie Phillips, our Minister of Music, often chooses the songs we hear. And Sis. Felicia closes out our services with music.

Dec. John Frank prepares and present the slides for all of the Deacon’s portions of the Morning Worship Service. He also does his own power points for the classes he teaches. Dec. Frank has been a co-host for Zoom. Deacon Howard teaches our Wednesday night Extended Basic Bible Study class. He shares the information from his computer screen for his classes. Dec. Stephen Greer teaches our Thursday night Bible Study. He does his own slides for his class.

Thank God for blessing us with members with different skill, talents and gifts. They help make it feel like we have not missed a beat since the pandemic began. Praise The Lord for Pastor Smith who supports keeping the member-ship safe while continuing our services.

Preheat the oven to 425 and line a baking tray with baking paper.

Put the flour, salt, sugar, bicarb, butter, candied peel, currants and citrus zest into a bowl and mix really well.

Make a little well in the center and pour in the buttermilk, using a palette knife to bring the mixture together. Tip it out onto a work sur-face and gently bring the dough together, without kneading it – you don’t want to overwork it.

Place the dough onto the prepared baking tray and flatten it down, then use a sharp knife to make four cuts all the way through, to cre-ate eight triangles. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes.

While the bread is baking, make the butter. Have a colander lined with muslin (or a thin piece of cotton) ready. Put the cream into a mixer, or use a hand-held mixer, and whisk. It will quickly get to stiff peaks – just keep it going and then it will separate. As soon as it separates it will change fast – you will be able to hear it. There will be a lot of sloshing, where the water separates from the fat. What you should be left with is crumbly-looking butter and liquid in the base of the bowl.

Tip the butter into the prepared colander and leave it for the excess liquid to drain off.As the dripping slows down, give it a good squeeze to get rid of some more moisture. Add the salt and mix through, then set aside the amount you need for the bread and refrigerate the rest. It will keep in the fridge for a month.

When the bread comes out of the oven, leave it to cool on a rack for 15 minutes (if you can resist the urge not to eat it straight away!)

To serve, pull away the triangular wedges of warm bread and spread them with your fresh butter.

Add 2 tablespoons hot oil in large skillet, saute onion, garlic and chuck, stirring occasionally until meat is no longer red-about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar, bring to boil, stirring with wooden spoon. Reduce heat; simmer covered and stirring occasionally. 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease a 13-by-9-by-2-inch baking dish or a shallow oval baking dish. Wash eggplant, do not peel. Cut into slices ¼ inch thick

In pie plate, combine eggs and 1 tablespoon water; mix well with fork. On waxed paper, combine bread crumbs with ½ cup Parmesan cheese; mix well. Dip eggplant slices into egg mixture, coating well. Then dip into crumb mixture, coating evenly.

Add 1 tablespoon hot oil in medium skillet. Saute eggplant slices, a few at a time, until golden-brown and crisp on both sides. Add more oil as needed. Drain on paper towels, if necessary.

Arrange half of eggplant slices in bottom of prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the remaining grated Parmesan cheese. Top with half of mozzarella cheese slices. Cover with half of tomato sauce. Arrange remaining eggplant slices over tomato sauce. Cover with the rest of tomato sauce and mozzarella slices.

Sprinkle top with rest of Parmesan. Bake, uncovered for 25 minutes, or until cheese melts and top is browned. Serves 8.

FYI: You may make ahead, bake and freeze. Bake frozen at 350F covered 45 minutes. Then uncover and bake 15 minutes longer.
