Dear Families,
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students who had a big week sitting
the NAPLAN tests. The girls were all very focused throughout each test
and were committed to doing their very best. The results of the tests will
be released towards the end of Term 3.
We had a great morning on Friday with our bike ride and science experiments at Factory Bridge. With the construction of the new bridge the site has changed our access to the river. Preliminary results after two tests are unfortunately disappointing in terms of water quality. Wren: There were not as many macro invertebrates this time. I wonder why? Bree: The river bank has changed due to human intervention. Taryn: I really noticed that the river level was lower and the rate of flow was slower. Amali: The bike ride was fun, exhausting and hot!
Thanks for bringing the puppies in Amanda—they are adorable!

WATER WATCH & BIKE EXCURSION
This was an excellent presentation of valuable fire safety information. We were given a timely reminder to check that our smoke alarms are working as we move in to the winter months. Our pre-schoolers Beau and Nate enjoyed participating in the activities - especially using the fire hose! Many thanks to the Rural Fire Service
for the effort that they put in to community education programs. Each student received a
show bag with lots of fun and interesting information. A reminder to all families that in the case of an emergency
bush fire situation at Medlow, our plan is to evacuate by car to the Pub in the Village.
Marshall: Get down low and go, go, go!
Willow: Stop, drop, cover and roll
Anna: We learnt about the difference between tools and toys.
Homework will resume this week with spelling tests on Friday. Students will need to complete their spelling and
homework book and hand it in on Friday.
Today the students will be drawing learning maps and working on their smart goals. This is an extremely effective
way for students to think about how they learn, who helps them to learn, who they help and how they would like
to learn. These maps can then be shared with parents and the teachers to help students think more deeply about
their learning.
Debbie will be working at Medlow on Tuesday with Mrs Trudgett because Jane and I have to attend a Core Financial Literacy training day at Scotts Head Public School. On Wednesday morning she will be working in the classroom with me. The students are to call her Mrs Desmond.
On Wednesday next week (25th) we will be combining with Eungai School for an Athletics Carnival. This will be held at Scotts Head Oval.
On Friday (27th), we will be visiting Mary Boulton’s historic cottage in Macksville and the 2NVR community radio station.
Both excursions will be by bus. On Wednesday, we will have to leave slightly earlier than usual, so I will confirm these times with you. Permission notes for these two excursions are attached and they need to be returned to school this week, please.
I am attaching some ideas for healthy lunchbox ideas.
Regards,
Sarah Landers, Relieving Principal
