Vacuum Contactor Module

Ratings

Easy access to the contactor module improves maintenance and operation.

The vacuum contactor module was designed with operator and maintenance personnel in mind. It incorporates distinctive features for ease of installation, operational safety and maintenance simplicity in the AdvanceTM medium voltage motor control center (MVMCC).

For improved safety, the interlocking system prevents opening the isolation switch while the contactor is closed, opening the cell door when the switch is closed, and operating the isolation switch with the door open. The contactor can only be energized with the door closed.

The isolation switch is manually operated and interlocked, and the front window allows air gaps in the switch to be visibility verifi ed. The contactor/isolation switch system includes all necessary interlocks to assure proper sequencing and safe operation. Also, an auxiliary switch is available to indicate open or closed position.

The contactor enclosure includes stationary support and primary contacts for engagement with the con-tactor. Padlock provisioning is provided for securing the contactor in place.

• Contactors are rated at 400 A & 720 A • Two-high design with 400 A contactors without de-rating the upper cell

Materials and Construction

Excellent product quality results from the best materials and design.

• ABB potential transformer modules accommodate industry-leading ABB VIY-60 kV BIL potential transformers and are rack mounted in a 19” module

• Each standard module accepts up to three PTs with line-to-line (L-L) or line-to-ground (L-G) connections

• Optional 75 kV BIL type PTs accept up to two transformers mounted in a 38” module

• PTs are automatically grounded when withdrawn to discharge any residual current

The accessory group for AdvanceTM medium voltage motor control centers (MVMCCs) and the ABB vac-uum contactor include a complete array of required and optional special tools for proper handling, opera-tion and maintenance. For maximum convenience, all withdrawable assemblies – potential transformers, control power transformers, and fuses use the same accessories.
