A letter from the Chair of Trustees

For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. Hebrews 10.36

As we all contemplate the true meaning of lent, we are mindful of the great sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us all. In our preparations for the Easter celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we must wean ourselves from sin and selfishness through self-denial and prayer. We are then opening our minds to the desire of Gods will and make His kingdom come first of all in all our hearts.

As we stand at the foot of His cross at Calvary we give thanks and praise for His sacrifice and the outpouring of blessings given in the work in which we serve by helping those who have the least and yet need the most.

The Trustees continue to be overwhelmed by your continuous prayers and most generous financial support.

This Eastertide may your hearts be filled with joy as we receive another gift of life from Jesus Christ.

Forward thinking Seminar Westminster London

Forward Thinking cordially invited the “Friends” through our partnership with Interpal to an evening of discussion on the humanitarian situation within the Palestinian Territories to mark the launch of a new report – The Palestinian Humanitarian Conference – highlighting the humanitarian challenges confronting Palestinians today. The event will took place on Wednesday 1st February 2017 at 18:30 at Portcullis House, in the Grimond Room, Westminster and was chaired by Dr Philippa Whitford, MP for Central Ayrshire. The evening brought together a number of prominent speakers with direct experiences of the challenges affecting Palestinians today. They opened discussions by reflecting on the Palestinian Humanitarian Conference’s findings and examining recent developments in the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian Territories. Speakers will include: • Dr Philippa Whitford, MP for Central Ayrshire (Chairperson)• Sir Jeremy Greenstock, Former UN Ambassador and Special Advisor to Forward Thinking• John Beavis MB FRCS DMCC, Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chairman of IDEALS• Ibrahim Hewitt, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Interpal • Bob Jones, Acting Policy and Campaigns Manager, Medical Aid for Palestinians • Oliver McTernan, Director of Forward Thinking

These discussions brought to the fore the urgent need for medical aid, shelter and education in addition to the plight of the many children in great need.

Financial ReportCIO update: I can confirm the Charity Commission is in receipt of the final paperwork for the closure of the old charity The Friends of the Lazarus Home for Girls in Bethany Registered Charity N0-1075024. Once this has been granted all assets of the charity will be transferred over to the new charity The Friends of the Lazarus Home for Girls Reg N0-1163342. This transfer does not modify any of the aims of the organisation which was simply completed to bring the charity up to date with appropriate governance so as to protect and support the charity in the future and in the work it has set out to achieve. This will not affect any of the work of the organisation and we will still undertake to update our supporters on all matters affecting the charity. Your ongoing support is very much appreciated and helps us immeasurably in achieving a safe place for the girls who will be in our care to live, learn and develop as you people who are at present times of great need.

As the changes will affect our Gift aid claims it will be essential for a new Gift Aid account is to be registration with HMRC to comply with this new registration it is necessary for all our taxpaying supporters to complete a new Gift Aid declaration form. The “Friends “do register that this is an inconvenience to our supporters but the benefits give the “Friends” the additional finance raised to enhance the funds forwarded out to the project. I will therefore forward out a new Gift Aid form to bring in line the new charity status together with a stamped self addressed envelope for your perusal.

Grant award:

As I am writing my report I am delighted to confirm the “Friends” have been successful in our quest for further grant application funding with a grant award of £20,000.00 from Interpal towards the ongoing completion of outstand construction work.

The board of trustees extend to Interpal their profound gratitude for their ongoing partnership and support.

New Logo

It has been decided by the trustees to generate a new logo, the census was Madonna & child as the project is Christ driven and reminds us all of the need of the children.

As treasurer it never ceases to amaze me when I open the post and find the most wonderful letters of support, prayers and financial donations from your good selves. Words cannot express what your support means to the “Friends” who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to relocate the girls. I have, in my role as treasurer, been able to forward out International payments to our architect for the ongoing construction work. This is directly as a result of your ongoing support and dedication to the charity and our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ.
