A TRIBUTE TO THE1980’S

When a group of teenagers are invited to celebrate the end of the school termwith a party at their teacher’s recently inherited mansion house, Little do they know they are being set up for the most terrifying night of their lives.

As they party through the night, each member of the group is gruesomely picked off at random by a masked intruder using a series of medieval torture instruments kept on the premise.

Kenneth L. Truelsen graduated from the European Film College (Denmark) in 2002 as a writer/director.

Since graduation he has been writing, directing and producing horror short films. Every short film has been a lesson and a preparation for Medievil.

In 2009 he founded Tape_7 Productions to have his vision become more concrete and one day a brand.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

With Medievil, the relative newcomer Kenneth L. Truelsen has attempted to master the traditional slasher horror genre by delivering a very typical story, revolved around a group of hedonistic teenagers that are systemati-cally hunted down one-by-one by an unrelenting, psychotic killer.The script offers a fairly derivative shock and scare machine which is not necessarily a terrible thing.Amongst genre fans, delivering the familiar has proven to be successful in previous years. It is in

the scenes of the mansion house that the script displays its key strengths; whereby the killer finds novel yet historically accurate ways of torturing his victims to death. The writer handles these moments very well, al-lowing just enough gratuitous violence to turn your stomach, whilst never overindulging to the point of incredulity. The fear in the characters is palpable and the menacing antagonist is perfect-ly constructed as a merciless, apathetic monster, introduced as the Executioner.

In the script we are introduced to the characters, every one of which seemingly abides to the most formulaic stereotypes you expect to see in a slash-er film. This graphically violent script abides by many of the principles that are absolutely necessary for a good slasher film. This is a clearly attempt by the writer to take the audience back to the 1980s, where low-budget teenage slasher films were hugely popular.

THESCRIPT

Medievil is my tribute to the 80’s slashers and its shows great respect of the sub-genre. The script is com-parable with a classic setup like Scream or Urban Legend. Medievil has some twists that are both original and new, so this will be a refreshing 80’s-like slasher. Medievil is the ultimate horror/slasher project and it will be a great opportunity not only for me but also for the people that will be working on the project.

Medievil is a story of revenge and how it can con-trol you. You can’t hide from your past. It will come back to hunt you and your next of kind. Nobody is save! Medievil is a story that both emotionally will con-nect the audience to the characters and the story told, as well as visually to the stunning killings.

Horror is a genre that provide pow erful tools for the director to reach his audience and to show what oth ers choose not to. Horror remains one of the best ways to exite, thrill and anticipate the viewer. In fact, there are several studies describ ing the psychological benefits of embracing horror as a genre. Tape_7 Productions is a filmpro ductions company that has chosen to specialise using the elements of horror and use this as an advantage to deliver extensive knowledge and craftsmanship.
