Relevance: oral route of application of medications is the most preferred among patients and doctors through several advantages, including the most important is its simplicity, besides it can provide a faster onset of action. These dosage forms deliver the drug to the target through a local or systemic delivery of the drug in the mouth. For the drugs having significant buccal absorption, dosage forms such as chewable tablets and chewing gums permit more rapid therapeutic action as compared to per-oral dosage forms. Besides chewable tablets and chewing gums have been very well received by the parents for their use in children with full dentition.

The purpose of the work: to characterize medicated chewing gum (MCG) like drug delivery system, to research perspectives of application and developing drugs in a forms of chewing gum, place and value of MCG at the pharmaceutical market.

Medicated chewing gum- it is solid dosing medicinal form like a pillow or plates with a base consisting mainly

of gum, which is intended for chewing. It contains one or more

active substances that are released during

chewing by providing local or systemic action

after absorption through the buccal

mucosa and gastrointestinal tract.

Chewing gum has several advantages:1. Increased rate of effectiveness rather than other oral delivery systems.2. Removal of gum at any time.3. Reduced risk of overdosing while it's whole swallowed.4. Requiring no water to drink.5. Protection of the susceptible drugs contained from chemical or enzymatic attack in gastrointestinal tract.6. Both systemic and local drug delivery.7. High acceptance by children and teenagers.8. Good for rapid delivery.9. Fewer side effects.10. Good stability.11. Possibility of prolonging the release of active substances.12. Drugs come to the gastrointestinal tract in dissolved or suspended form in the saliva, in bioavailable form.13. Reduced hypoglycemic shocks in people taking anti-diabetic drugs.14. Stimulating alertness through increased blood flow to brain.15. Help reduce food cravings.

Composition of MCG include:

Gum base

Elastomers

Plasticizers

Adjuvants Antioxidants

Sweeteners

Coloring agents

Flavoring Agents

Gum base 15-30%

The particles of active ingredients should be less than 100 microns

The active substance can be a part of nuclei and shell

Page 11: medicated chewing gum

Manufacturing process of MCG include next stages:Softening or melting

components of gum base Administration of sweeteners

and syrups, active ingredients and other

excipientsThe gum is then sent through a series of rollers that forms

into a thin wide ribbon. Tow of gum is cut into equal

parts and transfer into a room with controlled

temperature. The resulting gum for a few

days ready to a coating shell .

Quality control for MCG conduct by the next indicators:

Dissolution test

Microbiological purity

Uniformity of

content

Uniformity of mass

Uniformity of

dosing units

CONCLUSIONSResearch of pharmaceutical market showed that currently

chewing gum is quite common in the population but medicated chewing gum has not found significant distribution

due to its small nomenclature. According to the results of research among presented at

pharmaceutical market MCG is dominated dental due to their wide range.

So considering all advantages of these medical form actual questions of modern medicine and pharmacy is to develop medicines in the form of MCG, with the purpose to expand nomenclature as this medicinal form is an alternative for patients who have difficulty swallowing exercise, or for

children who are not able to swallow the medicine.
