Cardiovascular diseases are still among the most frequent causes of death and, according to information from the WHO, with increasing life expectancy, in spite of advances in diagnosis and therapy, will constitute the most common disease for mankind in the year 2020. The predominant cause for this is arteriosclerosis.

The joint practice is specialised in the field of cardiovascular disease syndromes, whereby the team of physicians upholds the philosophy of preserving the classical approach of school medicine, focusing, however, on the human being as a holistic entity. Highly advanced therapy methods and diagnostic measures, tailored to the individual pathological condition, are used to

enable the best possible therapeutic success for every patient.

The clinic competently covers, in accordance with advanced state of the art medical techniques, the entire spectrum of general, visceral and minimal invasive surgery. The clinic, besides concentrating on tumour surgery, minimal invasive surgery and coloproctology, is specially focused on endocrine surgery.

In the field of tumour surgery, the entire range of benign and malignant tumours of visceral surgery is covered, with particular focus on the large intestine and rectum, the stomach and the pancreas.

Infertility treatment to satisfy the desire for children is often a heavy burden in an emotionally, extremely stressful situation for the couples concerned. At the “UniKid”, specialisation and scientific competence is combined with a pleasant treatment atmosphere.

In order to meet even more effectively the wishes for individual care on the part of involuntarily childless couples, the university clinic in Dusseldorf has set up, under the roof of the women’s clinic, the Dusseldorf University Interdisciplinary Fertility Centre (UniKid) which today performs more than 1000 oocyte retrievals per year. For 20 years already in the gynaecology department of the

University Clinic of Dusseldorf (UKD) there has been a consultation for those desiring children.

Through long-standing cooperation between the department for andrology, the urology clinic and the institute for human genetics, the UKD today offers the entire spectrum of therapy in the case of involuntary childlessness.

Thanks to the close liaison between the UniKid and the university clinic, female and male patients at all times receive optimal medical care.

A MODERn DIAgnOSIS AnD ThERAPy CEnTRE FOR wOMEn OnLy

The clinical activity of the chief medical officer prof. Dr. med. Monika Hampl is focused on the diagnosis and therapy of diseases of the female genital tract.

These diseases include infections, pre-neoplasia and carcinoma of the cervix, the vagina and the entrance of the vagina. Furthermore, the treatment of skin diseases at the vulva and unspecific itching and burning sensations (vulvodynia) in this region constitute a major part of her clinical activity.

The operative therapy comprises the micro-surgical treatment of pre-neoplasia of the cervix, vagina and vulva as well as the operative treatment of neoplasia with the focus on plastic, cosmetic reconstruction of the genitals with

local flap plastic surgery. The female patients are examined using the latest methods in the specially equipped dysplasia surgery at the gynaecological clinic of Dusseldorf University.

Where required, immediate ultrasonic and Doppler examinations as well as x-rays and preventive mammographies can be carried out.
