VII. RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

My primary research field is thoracic oncology. In particular, I have performed

extensive research in the following two areas: diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in

lung cancer patients; and the immunologic aspects of lung cancer and more precisely

the anti-tumour immune response.

PhD THESIS

Obtained my PhD degree at the University of Thessaly, Greece (2008). The sub-

ject of my thesis was “Transcriptional Expression of Human Telomerase Reverse Tran-

scriptase (hTERT) and Indoleamine 2,3-Dioxygenase (IDO) in Lung Cancer”.

Supervisors: Prof K. Gourgoulianis and Prof A. Germenis.

ters indexed in pubmed, scopus ets., including at prestigious international journals

X. CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

During the last 12 years, I have acquired an extensive and comprehensive experience

of the clinical work of the Pulmonary Clinic, through my positions as a Research Associate

at the Pulmonary Department (2003-2005 and 2009-2013), as a consultant (2005-2009)

and as a Lecturer and Ass. Prof. of Pulmonology (2013-present). A focal point of my clinical

work was on the diagnostic and therapeutic assessment of oncology patients with lung can-

cer.

More precisely, my clinical experience includes the following:

- In charge of the diagnostic and therapeutic approach for a large number of hospital-

ized patients with all kind of respiratory diseases (12 years)

- In charge of the diagnostic and therapeutic approach, palliative care and follow up of

oncology patients with lung cancer (12 years).

- Organisation and direction of two special regular outpatient clinics, the Thoracic on-

cology outpatient clinic (2007-2010) and the Clinic of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary

Disease (2009-present).

- Regular participation in the Emergency Department of the hospital (5 years)

- Regular participation in the pulmonary outpatient clinic where over 100 patients are

evaluated monthly. (12 years)
