His lifeHe was better known as Sylvester II. He was born in France in 1003. He was a famous mathematic thatpromoted the study of arabic and greco romanarithmetic.

Its legendGerbert was accused by his enemies of havingstudied magical arts and astrology at the Islamic citiesof Córdoba and Seville and even at the University of AlKaraouine in Morroco. This gave rise to legends thatportray him as a sorcerer in league with the Devil.
