The joint determination isexplained in Boutek (1974: 205) underLeucospis aruina Walker.NOTES: Boaek (1974) selected the singlespecimen of Exoclaenus miltoni as aLectotype. DAHMS: GIRAULT TYPES OF AUSTRALIAN HYMENOPTERA: III^819

Girault's papers in Mem. Qd Mus. weresynopses I am assuming that the 1914 paperwas written before the 1913 paper. In thiscase Girault would have had bothspecimens to hand when writing the 1913paper. His PUBL. DATA with the 1914paper clearly indicate the specimen on Slide1 was his primary type. The second male ismentioned with a brief note indicating adifference from the one he selected as histype. Annotation on the Slide 2 labelindicates that he later considered the secondmale to be a variety of this species. Thisexplains the crossouts on the labels ofSlide 2. Girault did not select a Holotype inthe 1913 paper which means his twospecimens were Syntypes. As a result of hisactions in the 1914 paper I am assigningLectotype-status to the male on Slide 1.The specimen on Slide 2 is therefore aParalectotype. Riek (1966) has assignedHolotype and Paratype-status to thesespecimens which I regard as incorrect.T.3954 is a duplicate Queensland Museumregister number for the Lectotype of thisspecies and is reserved for theParalectotype.

Thepair of legs and the antenna on the Slidemay be from this specimen but this isuncertain especially as the Slide contains nowings (also missing from the Holotype). Ihave interpreted the specimens and parts onthe Slide to be Paratypes for which theduplicate Queensland Museum registernumber T.4898 is reserved.Girault's labels bear the combinationCoelocyba minuta without his name inbrackets. This could be because he labelledhis specimens before he decided to describea new genus Paracoelocyba (his name notin brackets) or it could be as a result of the1931 new combination (he did not alwaysput his name in brackets for newcombination).

NOTES: T.3714 is a duplicate QueenslandMuseum register number for the Holotypeof this species and has been cancelled. I amassuming that the single remainingspecimen is the Holotype and that it is thefirst mentioned species collected June 14th.In his unpublished manuscript Giraultplaces the two species on the Slide inOoctonus Haliday (1833) as newcombinations. This created homonymy withGonatocerus saintpierrei Girault (1913) andOoctonus saintpierrei Girault (1913). Isuspect that the specimen on the Slide isGonatocerus saintpierrei for which Giraultproposed the new name Ooctonus langlandiin 1938. Discussion of this situation is leftuntil Gonatocerus saintpierrei is dealt with.

DATAthe Holotype has its head on a slide whichmatches the specimen on SAM Card 2 (notlabelled by Girault as type) and not thespecimen on Card 1 (labelled as type byGirault). This is confused further by bothslides bearing a fore wing - there is nomention of a fore wing on the Holotypeslide in the PUBL. DATA. SAM Slide 1 islabelled "type" by Girault and its partsmatch (in part) those missing from thespecimen on SAM Card 1. The fore wing isunder a separate coverslip fragment andcould therefore have been added later byGirault during re-examination of theHolotype (in his unpublished manuscriptGirault mentions re-examination of theHolotype). SAM Slide 2 is not labelled"type" by Girault and its parts matchthose missing from the specimen on SAMCard 2. The fore wing and head aretogether under a half coverslip andtherefore mounted at the same time. However, SAM Slide 2 has a head, as inthe PUBL. DATA, but SAM Slide 1 has nohead. The type annotations on the labels arein pencil. My interpretation is that Giraultlabelled the wrong specimen and itsmatching slide during re-examination of theHolotype. His PUBL. DATA were in errorin not including a fore wing on the slidewith the Holotype head. I therefore regardthe specimen on SAM Card 2 with its partson SAM Slide 2 as the Holotype. Thiscreates a problem since the data on SAMCard 2 are those mentioned by Girault in

[GH] Ent. Div. Dep. Ag. & Stk., Qld.4641".NOTES: Although Girault intended theQM specimen to be his Holotype it has notype-status. The 1927 description is the onlydescription of this nominal species.Although the description is not annotatedsp. nov. it serves to make this nominalspecies both valid and available. In thiscase the SAM specimen, which has notbeen located, would have been theHolotype. There are several reasons whichlead me to believe that, at the time whenthe 1927 description was written, Giraultthought he had already described thisnominal species. Girault did not annotatethe description as sp. nov. but he did so forI. silvae and I. silvifilia in the same key.Type-data for the last two mentionednominal species are given after the key, butnone are given for I. multistriata. In hisunpublished manuscript Girault places the1930 reference before the 1927 referencewhich I take to be his realisation that hehad not described I. multistriata prior to1927. The Wynnum label on the QMspecimen is in Girault's hand and it cannottherefore be the SAM specimen. The Queensland Museum register numberT.4641 for this species is retained inanticipation of Neotype selection by thefirst reviser.
