Media Studies Evaluation 2
2. The character I will be analysing from my film opening is of course my main character, the assassin. I have called him the assassin as in the film opening he is unnamed, and it is not yet decided whether
he will be given a name as the film progresses. My assassin character has been mainly inspired by Jason Bourne from the Bourne series. The rugged, no holds barred, assassin attitude of the assassin is something that can be seen largely in the character of Bourne. In the films, Bourne has no idea
who he is, where he is, and how he got there, and the only way he can discover these answers is to get to a certain person, and kill everyone who gets in his way. Although my character uses a gun to kill the prisoner, I feel as the film progresses who could be an extremely aggressive, hands on fighter,
much like Bourne. One scene I vividly remember in one of the Bourne films is a scene where he enters a seemingly empty apartment, only to find one of the enemies in there. With no guns or weapons around, they enter a very aggressive hands on fight, in which Bourne eventually snaps the
man’s neck. This brute like aggressiveness is something I feel could be mimicked in my character.
Although their personality may be the same, their appearance is fairly different. The first difference would be the colour of the characters. Bourne seems to be a very pale, clearly white character, whereas my assassin is a tanned man. Also, Bourne has no facial hair, and is a very clean, pristine
person, with a clear face, whereas the main character of my film has a bushy stubble on his face, with faded sideburns and a strong dark head of hair. There are some similarities in their appearance, such as the build of the two, and the powerful expressions on their faces, but their overall
appearance is quite different.
Their roles are almost identical. Bourne plays a vicious, aggressive man who kills anyone in his way, and my character is much of the same. Although my character doesn’t hold much of a story from the
two minute opening, if the film was to progress, it is shown he is an assassin who kills “rats” who have been captured by the government with information that could change the world. He kills them not because he wants to, but because he feels he has to. This is much like Bourne’s character, as he
did not choose the lifestyle that is shown in the films, he woke up with no recollection of where or who he was, and was almost thrown into it.
