Q1. What have you learned during the making of your preliminary task?Technical aspects-
• I have learnt how to attach a camera to a tripod• How to use the cameras equipment correctly
• To use Adobe Premiere Pro CC For our task we used a Nikon DSLR to capture clips towards our short video. Before we began to film Mrs Spalding ran us through how to use different
features on the camera, such as focussing the camera, taking still images, zooming, pausing in between recordings and recording clips (this was important to me especially for this piece of work as I was the director of photography). Mr Welch then taught us how to attach the DSLR to the tripod, this is done by first attaching the mounting piece to the base of the camera and then placing it into to mounting socket of the tripod, before tightening and levelling the tripod correctly for use using the adjusting features, this was a pretty easy aspect to learn allowing us to get on with actual film making quickly. Once we gathered all our pieces of media we then had to learn how to edit clips turning them into a film, on Premiere pro, by cutting and adjusting clips to get the continuity of the short video, non of us in the group had ever used this editing software before therefore found it rather challenging but got to grasps
with it pretty well, and were able to, cut, clip, add sound and edit the speed of our films. How to manage time- During the making of my preliminary task we divided the 2 school weeks we were given into creating the storyboard, we did this
efficiently enough to allow which 1/2 day for, filming the clips where we gave 3 days and finally editing where we allowed the most time of 4 days to ensure we mastered the editing techniques using Premiere Pro and the final day was used to watch the clip and see any major outstanding issues which
we may have needed too correct.Group work- We had a group of 3 for our task therefore were able to divide parts between each other, we all had a slight role in acting while I was only in the start of it so I filmed the remaining clips, while Charlie and Annabel acted. Then Charlie began with the editing while me and Annabel then did the
titles to put together at the end.Storyboarding- We had a total of 16 shots in our storyboard, entailing camera and angle shots along with a brief description of what is happening in the
shot. This helped us to know the order which we needed to take shots in, so we knew what we needed to do, helping the organisation of the group.Issues around continuity- Due to the fact that we shot the clips separately continuity was an issue therefore using Premiere Pro we had to cut clips and
move them together to make them flow more positively.
