Covers!

Drake-”Nothing Was The Same”Nothing was the same is Drake latest album. The album art is quite interesting. It has Drake as the grown young man he is to date wearing a gold chain with his hair clean cut, facing himself as a young child with an afro comb in his afro hair. The picture is an extension of the messages within the music on the album. It’s all about reflection which we can see by the mirror illustration on the cover. Drake is looking back on his life and what he’s become. Drake the child has an afro comb in his whereas drake the grown man is wearing a gold chain portraying the idea of starting from the bottom(one of the songs on drakes album) and getting to the top. The background used is the sky and this represents the fact that he had a dream since he was a child and now he’s living out his dream on cloud 9. He sends out the message “the sky is your limit” to his fans.

Jay z-”Magna Carta Holy Grail”Magna Carta Holy Grail is Jay z’s latest album. As shown, he uses established artwork to illustrate his album. The sculpture is named Alpheus and Arethusa by Battista di Domenico Lorenzi. The sculpture is a depiction of a Greek myth about the nymph Arethusa who is pursued by the river god Alpheus. In attempt to escape her pursuer, Arethusa transforms into a stream. Maybe Jay-Z is referencing his own transformation from hustler into the successful and free artist that he is today. This idea of a river represents freedom. Jay z often also plays up to the stories about him that people seem to believe such as him being associated with satanic groups ad being apart of the illuminati. This escape may be perceived by the people who carry these views as a negative thing. It could symbolise Jay z escaping God, “his pursuer” and living his life free apart from od’s rules. The title of his album isn't displayed on the front, yet many people know the name of his album despite this. This just shows how established and major he is. The thick black line struck through his name makes it a little bit hard to read which metaphorically represents that Jay Z is quite a hard artist to read into.

Janelle Monae-”The Electric Lady”The electric lady is Janelle Monae’s latest album. The album art illustrates the title her album. She looks like she’s wearing some sort of electrical suit, which is quite different and stands out from most artists. Janelle Monae is quite an eccentric, interesting artist, likewise some of her songs, and I feel that her hair style and costume reflect this. Her pose portrays this idea of independence and strength which is definitely an accurate reflection of the type of person she is. She’s very bold and different from other female R&B artists who rely upon their sexuality unlike her, but she loves who she is and isn’t afraid to show this. I love this album art not only because I love Janelle, but I feel that it brilliantly captures her as an artist in just one image.

Snoop Dogg-”Malic in Wonderland”Malice in wonderland is one of Snoop

Dogg’s past albums. The album art is very comical and playful likewise Snoop Dogg himself. Most Rappers are quite serious and rap about heavy, topics, struggle and hardships in life whereas Snoop Dogg is the opposite. His comedic characteristics are reflected through his hip hop twist on the innocent story of Alice Wonderland in which Alice comes to find alcohol, flash cars and money.
