The Independent is the
official student newspa-
per of Northeastern
Illinois University
(NEIU) in Chicago. It is published bi-weekly
during the academic
year, with the exception
of breaks and is
distributed on campus
free of charge to
readers. The newspaper
has a current print
circulation of 2,000
copies per issue . NEIU
has three campuses
located in diverse
Chicago
neighborhoods. Our
main campus is located
in the Albany Park
neighborhood. Our two
satellite campuses are
located in the
Bronzeville and
Avondale
neighborhoods. The
Independent
has won over
20 statewide
and national
awards
in the past
decade and a
half. The
Independent
is a nationally
award-winning
newspaper
published
twice a
month during
the school
year, and
distributed for free on
three campuses. The
Independent is the
winner of awards from
the Associated
Colligate Press ,
Columbia
Scholastic, and
Illinois Association of
College Papers.
It has served the NEIU
community and
surrounding campus
areas as a reliable
source of information for
over 50 years.

A minimum of 200 DPI is required for
publishing. Submit by the Tuesday
before the print date. This will allow
enough time for any changes or alter-
ations that need to be made.
We have professional graphic design-
ers available to design your advertise-
ment with any information or logo
you wish for an additional cost.
Sequence ads (2 or more) can be purchased at a
discount. We also have graphic designers
available to work with you and design your ad
for an additional cost. Please contact us at

Previous Advertisers
Both the publisher (hereafter known as The Independent Newspaper or Independent) and the Advertiser (hereafter known as Advertiser) shall both agree that the advertising agreed upon between both parties is governed by the following terms and conditions in regards to any requested advertisement (hereafter know as The Advertisement or Advertisement or Ad) for publication within the Independent: 1. All advertising orders are subject to the terms, conditions and rates of the Independent’s
advertising rate card. All initial Advertisement requests must be made in writing and publication of an Advertisement denotes acceptance of the Advertisement. Any subsequent advertising or renewal of a previous Advertisement must also be made in writing, unless otherwise stated in the final contract.
2. The Independent reserves the right to reject any advertising. Advertisements that discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation or other protected class or group under Illinois state law will not be accepted. Any advertising containing false or misleading facts or statements or containing lewd or vulgar content will be rejected and any tangible materials returned to the sender.
3. Any and all advertising of products, services, or promotions that are illegal in the state of Illinois will be denied.
4. All advertising that is submitted for publication after the deadline agreed upon in the final contract for the requested issue will only be accepted at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief (hereafter known as the EIC).

5. The Independent reserves the right to offer and
recognize any special offers or promotions on
advertising packages that carry special rates.
6. Any advertising that is offered as “Pro Bono” or
at zero cost to the Advertiser is at the
discretion of the EIC.
7. A discount of 15% will be applied to advertising
by any student, teacher, or employee of
Northeastern Illinois University (hereafter known
as NEIU) that is able to show valid NEIU
identification.
8. All payments for published advertising must be re-
ceived within 30 days of the billing date. A late fee
of $25 or 10% of the total cost of that Advertisement,
whichever is greater, will be assessed on the 31st day
and will be charged each week thereafter until the
balance is paid in full. Unless agreed upon in writing
by the EIC and Advertising Manager (hereafter known
as AM).
9. Compensation for any errors made by publisher will be
at the discretion of the Independent and can be
compensated for by the offering of discounted
additional advertising space and/or free advertising
only. No cash refunds can be made.
10. The Independent assumes no liability for the
financial loss to any business, club, organization or
individual for failure to publish any Advertisement nor
does it guarantee any increase in profits or sales
through the publication of any Ad.
11. Any cancellation of
Advertisement must be made
in writing and received at
least 72 hours prior to the
publishing deadline of that
issue. Cancellation between 72
hours and 48 hours will result
in billing for non printed
advertisement. Advertisements
can not be canceled after 48
hours and will be published
and billed accordingly. This
applies to all ads excluding
full page and full back page
ads.
