SITUATION Media Markt operates more than 800 stores in 14 countries. One location recently faced a problem with theft of high-value electronic merchandise. The company’s Amsterdam Arena location stored its most expensive smartphones in competitor’s keep- ers, and then wrapped the keepers with package wraps. These keep- ers, which were unlocked using a Media Markt strikes back at thieves with InVue’s IR Safers. ™ magnetic key, were frequently being defeated by thieves. Keepers and package wraps were regularly found in the store’s elevator without the phones they were supposed to be securing. After thousands of euros of merchandise had been stolen, Media Markt turned to InVue for help. IR SAFER SOLUTION Media Markt implemented InVue’s IR Safers to secure its high theft smartphone merchandise. The Safers can only be opened with InVue’s IR2 Keys, programmed specifically for each store location. This technology prevents thieves from defeating the Safers with magnets. RESULTS After two months of testing, Media Markt reported that theft of the smartphones had been completely eliminated since the introduction of InVue’s IR Safers. Based on Media Markt’s previous theft, the store’s return on investment was a short 4.5 months.
