WELCOME
This tournament is close to the hearts of all of us at ICC and is considered a very important event on our calendar. The tournament gives players an unrivaled experience of global events and a real flavour of international cricket at senior level, while cricket fans around the world can watch tomorrow’s stars in action on television or through live-streaming.
A host of past and present stars have come through this system and the fact that a number of current captains including Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, Sarfraz Ahmed and Dinesh Chandimal have all figured in past ICC U19 World Cups, demonstrates the calibre of cricketers we can expect to see during this event.
On behalf of the ICC, I would like to take this opportunity to thank New Zealand Cricket, its staff, ground authorities and volunteers in helping us organize this important event. I would also like to thank our commercial and broadcast partners for their support in making our events so special and taking them to the widest possible audience. A word of appreciation is likewise due to my colleagues at the ICC, who have worked so hard in preparation for this event.
I would also like to thank all members of the media for your continued support of this event, whether you are here in person or following from your respective newsrooms around the world, the coverage you drive is so important to our sport. You will find editorial material, imagery, audio and video on the ICC’s Online Media Zone in the run-up to and throughout the event which I hope you will find useful in delivering your coverage. Should you need anything else please do not hesitate to contact the media team.
I wish you all a thoroughly enjoyable event as we all look to spot the superstars of the future.
David Richardson ICC Chief Executive

WELCOME
This will be the third time New Zealand has hosted this event, having held the 2002 and 2010 editions of the tournament.
With free entry to all matches, this will be the most accessible major event ever seen in New Zealand, and all host cities, local clubs and cricket associations are looking forward to seeing the future stars of world cricket playing on our shores.
The future stars of international cricket are set to battle it out over 48 matches across seven match venues, with Bay Oval in Tauranga hosting the first ever ICC U19 Cricket World Cup final to be played under lights. There will be an array of activities to choose from in our host cities of Whangarei, Tauranga, Christchurch and Queenstown, and we encourage you to experience some of what our wonderful country has to offer.
I hope you enjoy the tournament in what will be a huge summer of cricket throughout New Zealand.
Greg Barclay NZC Chairman

HAGLEY OVAL CHRISTCHURCHJust outside of the Christchurch CBD sits one of NZ’s picturesque cricketing venues, Hagley Oval. Established in the 1850’s, Hagley Oval hosted a series of inter-provincial matches, as well as the occasional international fixtures.
In 2013, after the terrible destruction of the Canterbury earthquakes a decision was made to redevelop Hagley Oval into an international cricket venue. Two years later, the world’s eyes were all on Hagley Oval and Christchurch as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 opening match was held at the Christchurch ground.
The ground is set against the stunning natural backdrop of the well-established trees and fields of Hagley Park, and is encircled by a low level, rolling embankment which was increased in size in 2017.
The Pavilion was designed to be moulded into the grass banks which gives the ground a seamless flow that leads to some stunning aerial photography. Complete with superior amenities including players’ changing and dining spaces, match management spaces and media and hospitality spaces, the venue provides excellent facilities for players, members and spectators alike.

RANGIORA OVAL CHRISTCHURCHIn the Northern outskirts of Canterbury sits the classic country cricket ground, Rangiora Oval, which is one of the oldest clubs in the area dating back to the 1860’s. Engulfed in the Rangiora community of around 15,000 people, the ground brings a mixture of international and domestic cricket to the region.
Until 2003, the ground was generally a community ground, used for football and grade level cricket fixtures. That changed fourteen years ago when the ground went through a complete redevelopment, which saw a brand-new pavilion built which included an indoor centre and viewing lounges, a new eastern embankment added and the cricket block relocated.
Within a year the ground was opened by then NZC President J. R. Reid, and it hosted its original First-Class match in February 2004 between Canterbury and Central Districts. Since then it has hosted numerous Plunket Shield, Ford Trophy and Super Smash fixtures.
It is no stranger to the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup either, with the ground hosting two matches during the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2010, and the 2014 Qualifying Tournament.
BERT SUTCLIFFE OVAL LINCOLN – CHRISTCHURCHSituated within Lincoln University, the Bert Sutcliffe Oval is now an experienced international venue, hosting fixtures in numerous ICC tournaments. Both the Bert Sutcliffe Oval and the surrounding area form part of New Zealand Cricket’s High Performance Centre, with the fantastic training facilities utilised throughout both summer and winter.
The ground staged its maiden first-class match in November 1999 when England A played against a North Island side. The ground hosted both Semi-Finals and the Final of the Women’s World Cup in 2000, where New Zealand celebrated a famous victory over rivals Australia in a hard fought Final.
Since then, the ground has hosted numerous Women’s internationals, domestic fixtures and also the Final of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2014.
LINCOLN NO.3 LINCOLN – CHRISTCHURCHLincoln No. 3, which is situated only 100 metres from the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, will host nine matches during the ICC Under19 CWC 2018. Famously, Lincoln No.3 has only one First Class match to its name, when in November 2011, Kane Williamson knocked 284 not out in a Plunket Shield match against Wellington. Lincoln No. 3 is traditionally used for Provincial A fixtures and for National Schools Tournaments.
Lincoln Green completes the Lincoln set-up for the tournament, with the slightly smaller ground hosting three warm-up fixtures before the start of the tournament.

BAY OVAL TAURANGABay Oval will experience its busiest ever summer of cricket during the 2017-17 season, with Tauranga hosting numerous domestic fixtures, four BLACKCAPS internationals, and seven ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 matches including the final on Saturday 3 February.
Originally, the ground was known as Blake Park which hosted its first List A match in 1987/88. In 2005, the Bay Oval project became active, and by 2009 the ground was ready to host its first domestic match.
The renovated ground got its first taste of international cricket in 2014 when it was used as part of the 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Since then the BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS have played several matches in Mount Manganui.
The Bay Oval has recently undertaken a further significant upgrade with over $4million spent on new LED lights, a replay screen, increased embankment seating capacity and additional media facilities.
JOHN DAVIES OVAL QUEENSTOWNJohn Davies Oval is undoubtedly one of the more scenic venues hosting ICC Under19 CWC matches, surrounded by uninterrupted views of Coronet Peak, The Crown Range and The Remarkables offering one of the most spectacular sporting arenas in the world.
John Davies Oval is situated adjacent to the Queenstown Events Centre, a multi-purpose recreational and entertainment centre which offers locals and visiting teams everything they need in a venue, including sports fields, courts, pools and a gym to name a few.
Queenstown Lakes District Council recently committed $650,000 towards an upgrade of the international Oval pitch to ensure that the wicket and outfield were up to international standards. With an improved surface and drainage, along with an extension of the existing four strip cricket block to allow for an additional strip on each side of the block, the upgrade works were completed in 2017.
COBHAM OVAL WHANGAREICobham Oval is a boutique cricket ground that has been designed solely for cricket. The name Cobham Oval, however, has been associated with the Northland Cricket Association (NCA) for many years, with the ‘old Cobham Oval’ being relocated to its current location due to commercial redevelopment within the Whangarei region.
The ground holds 5,500 people and the embankment enables cricket fans to enjoy games from various vantage points. The pavilion has been designed with careful planning and resembles a ‘mini Lords’ in regard to its structure and design, and includes three levels of team changing and viewing, scoring, match management and media facilities.
Cobham Oval is the home ground to the Northland Cricket team, and is also one of the home grounds for the Northern Districts Cricket Association.
The first international at this venue was fought between the BLACKCAPS and Zimbabwe in February 2012. This match saw a record set by the BLACKCAPS, that being the highest ODI score made by New Zealand, in New Zealand, with 372/6.
There have been several international teams play warm up matches at Cobham Oval, including Pakistan, England, India, Bangladesh and The Netherlands.
