Overview
• Pop rock is a music subgenre of the Pop which mixes a catchy pop style and light lyrics in its (typically) guitar-based rock songs. It is often heard more as a slick, commercial product which is less authentic than rock music. It can also be noted that the lyrical content of Pop Rock is "normally secondary to the music."
Key Artist of this genre This Pop Rock band can be seen as
key artists of this genre because they
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall
of fame in 1997 by being the most
successful in recording music during
those decades.
Studio albums such as ‘Spirits having flown’ to sound
tracks such as ‘Saturday night fever’ have made them a number hit in
both the UK & US
Also called the" English-Australian pop-rock
band that embodied the disco era of the late
1970s."
The Bee Gees
Other Key Artists This Band has noted as one of the
most popular bands of the late
Sixties early Seventies; pop rock,
single-oriented sound with soul-
influences and is still performing
today.
Three Dog Night
The group had three US #1 songs,: "Mama Told Me Not to Come" (Cory Wells on lead), which was also their only Top 10 hit in the UK; "Joy to the World" (Chuck Negron on lead); and "Black and White" (Danny Hutton on lead).
Dunhill Records claimed 40 million record albums were sold by the band during this time period.
Demographic & Public Perception
Pop Rock has a wide range of listeners since it is used in some adverts because of being so commercially catchy.
Pop Rock can be seen as both mainstream and niche because it depends on the artist playing/singing the song.
During the 1980’s Michael Jackson was a prominent pop rock artist during the entire decade and is considered mainstream so would make Pop Rock mainstream if fans were listening to him. His fans would vary in ages since songs such as ‘Thriller and Beat it’ can appeal to people as little as five since it’s a song you can dance to.

Kerrang produces and sells its magazines frequently for about £2+ and would contain posters

Pop Rock Future
In my opinion, this genre has developed and is still developing. I also think that Pop Rock is heading a new direction both commercially and musically because of popular artists and bands such as Maroon 5, Pink and Kelly Clarkson making it sound good.
Although Alternative Pop and Punk Pop have also risen through the influence of this sub-genre; listeners can still tell the difference by the sound their guitars make.
