MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Taking into consideration the combination of my main product and ancillary texts, looking at how effective they are. Personally, I believe they are very effective as they all work alongside each other in an attempt to sell out the film successfully. My main product and ancillary texts all feature the protagonist character Ricky played the well-known actor Ricardo Vieira. Therefore, this reason alone shows how effective the combination of my main product and ancillary texts are. The target audience, girls ages sixteen to twenty four are able to identify the protagonist as he features on all three products making a clear link between all products that he is promoting the film “Obsess”. In addition, this is emphasised by the fact that Ricky conforms the conventions and characteristics of an action thriller “hero” saving his loved one Chloe which is stated in the tagline of the film poster “They took his girlfriend. Now he’s taking them.” The representation of Ricky is a regressive male stereotype as he is seen to be strong, dominant and authoritative through the use of images and shoots in my main product and ancillary texts. The costume Ricky is wearing consists of a white shirt, black trousers and a grey blazer in which he is wearing in all three media products. By Ricky wearing the same costume it helps to make a clear link between all three products, helping to identify the character as he is the unique selling point. The colours I have used are predominately dark colours consisting of grey, blue and red to make specific information evident such as the name of the film “Obsess” and the name of the protagonist “Ricardo Vieira”. By using the same colours, it makes my main product and ancillary texts effective as they all work effectively to promote my film “Obsess” making a clear link between all three products.

MEDIA EVALUATION QUESTION 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Lastly, the combination of my film poster and film trailer work effectively as on my film poster I have included three images on the left hand side in which are seen in the film trailer. The film poster helps to establish an insight into the film and some of the scenes included in the film. In addition to this, on my poster I have included an image of Ricky, which takes up the right hand side of the poster. This makes the audience focus on the protagonist as well as the particular scenes shown on my poster due to the fact they have seen these scenes before seeing the film trailer/film, therefore this makes the scenes more memorable. One of the images of the scenes included on my poster is a male on a motorbike; however, there is nothing to suggest that the male in the image is Ricky or the antagonist Michael. As the audience are unable to identify who this male is, it then creates an enigma for them helping to reinforce Todorov’s disruption stage. Overall, the poster and trailer work effectively as they both create suspense for the audience, making them want to go and see the film.
