This media product develops forms and conventions of real media productions. My music video was intended to use conventions from current and previous media , in order to establish are cognisable image that would involve my audience instantly. Therefore from research that I carried out about music videos, I concluded that music videos are either narrative or performance based. Searching music videos which were similar to my music genre gave me a broad idea of what I intended to want for my music video. As a group we decided to use a narrative based video as it complimented my artist and style of music. A performance based video would contradict with my artist as our chosen song is quite depressive, so we decided to emphasise this through visuals that enhanced and reflected the lyrics which is why most of our performance shots are of our main performer being alone so that it reflects on the lyrics. In one of our scenes we used a common convention of using a mirror and have our performer in a close up shot next to it. Filming with a mirror was done to express our performers emotions and to reveal a feeling of self reflection. This is usually used to create and connect with the target audience and fans of the music genre to attract and reflect on their emotions though the chosen song, which contributes to the development of the product as a whole as this helps outline the artists image.

Conventions I used from real media products

we used a black and white effect similarly to Beyoncé video, as it conveys emotions of the song and artist. In our music video, using a black and white effect on flash back / memories made the songs meaning more deeper as you could put together the lyrics and the video and why the artist feels the way she does.

Another way that we made this product develop from conventions of a real music video is through the mise-en-scene. We purposely chose a performer with natural dark features, such as dark hair, dark makeup, dark eyes. We did this so that we could make our performer look stressed out and look as if something is bugging her. By having our performer look distressed it portrays to the audience that the director was trying to link the performers image to the lyrics so that it has a visual concept as a music video.

An additional way that our media product has used and developed its forms and conventions of a media product is the way the album cover is represented. Most music album covers have the image of their artist on the cover so that it attracts the audience. We similarly did the same thing. The album covers main image is of our artist and is combined with text of her name Quinn Harper which works around our main image, making our cover look attractive to draw the audiences attention.

Our music video uses forms and conventions of real music videos and we have used both narrative and performance based shots and angels. My performance element was simple to other performances based videos I researched, where the focus is on the artist(s) and their emotions. However I wanted fast cut shots these are not found often in my genre, so I researched the rock/indie genre and found a music video by The Black Keys with fast quick cutting performance shots. We used this in our music video to show flash backs of our artist and the things which are troubling her. So therefore unlike most real media products who focus on the narrative of the music video, we put the focus of our media product on our performer ad our performance based shots.

Another main key convention that develops our music video is that we have chosen to set our video in a different location rather than having it in a studio, we chose outdoors as it linked with our performer and choice of song. It makes our story line more visual and connectable with the audience. Only our flash backs are mainly set indoors to show the atmosphere of her and her lover which our performer is now running away from.
