Transcript of Media evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions ofReal media products?

The use of a clear heading

The name of the Main artist whois the main attraction being the most obviousthing

The other storiesof the magazine along the side Barcode

Masthead

Many of the music magazines seem to have the red and white colour scheme, I also used this

colour scheme

The Focus Point

The colour schemes are simple but affective and are used in the right

way. The focus point of the powerful shot of the woman being the main attraction I think is used quite often and usually draws in a

lot of attention and a good audience

Original ideas

At first I started with trying to have a really simple picture with

minimalistic style.

But then I needed to make room for my stories to be advertised

to entice the reader

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine represents young women ultimately, but also young men who

have interests within fashion as well as a broad spectrum of music.

The use of a girl being on the front page and the headline

being about another woman artist and the competition being between the two.

Younger women around the ages of 15-25.

For people who don’t particularly have a specific genre of music they enjoy but

they like to explore and develop their knowledge in others.

There is also a need for fashion within this

magazine, as the hint of fashion is reflected in the

use of clothing on the main feature picture. This could enhance the social group to young people who not only like music

but also fashion and like to link the two.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Many commercial shops that young women will go into may distribute my media product as this is where the customer interested in my magazine will go to get products that could compliment what is within my magazine. My magazine is based on music but It also looks at the fashion side of the music industry.

Although this is not where music magazines are primarily sold it is a new and seeming to be an effective strategy used by magazine empires over the last few years. It allows someone who is so used to a certain way to allow themselves to be opened up to some variety, in the most unexpected place.

More conventional places for the magazine to be distributed would be places such as...

One of the only music shops still left thanks to new technologies being introduced which allows consumers to get there needs and wants elsewhere.

Smaller music distributors would be good for my magazine as it

does not have a specific genre of music, so it allows more of a

variety of markets instead of a niche market who like a specific

type of music.

Bauer MediaThis is one of the UK’s leading companies, which

explores and is involved in such as magazines, music channels, radio and TV.

Their women’s magazines

These radio and TV stations that Bauer media are involved in reflect the type of audience I want

to see my magazine and I think this type of media

organisation would distribute my product

well due to its high profile within the media

and how it has similar work to what I am

presenting.

This organisation produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK

women and 42% of the UK men.

The fact that this company also has a huge majority of its market allows my product to not just be used and sold as a woman’s magazine as males at this time are also into fashion and have just as much influence and interest in fashion and music

This company has the mass printing of women's magazines, with women being my demographic and major market of my magazine, hence why my magazine is preliminary based on what young women want to read within a music magazine but also having a sense of fashion.

This is the reason I think IPC Media would be good too distribute my magazine as it has a broad market instead of having one specific niche market. They sell too both

sexes who I think would be very interested in purchasing my product.

IPC Media Magazines

How did you attract/ address your audience?

The use of a young woman being the main focus of this magazine from the very first glance that the audience will see it showed that the magazine is highly female based. Also with the majority of the stories on the outside being about women and very woman orientated this expresses the audience from the get go.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process ofconstructing this product?
