1. In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop and Challenge Forms and Conventions of Real Media Products? Conor devised a questionnaire which gave us results that

allowed a better understanding of the Thriller genre. Some of the results showed that Certificate 15 was the most

popular choice for thriller films. Other results where based around codes and conventions such as setting. An urban setting was the most popular of the choices we presented our answerers with.

1. In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop and Challenge Forms and Conventions of Real Media Products? I watched The Adjustment Bureau, Inception and The Dark

Knight as inspiration for direction and shooting as well as representation of characters. What I noticed was that the way in which the camera was used often mirrored the emotional connotation of the scene.

In The Adjustment Bureau, There are points in the opening where the camera is shaky because David Norris’ fate is uncertain.

We used this technique; The emotional scene between James and Katherine was handheld, symbolising their emotions being all over the place whereas the scene in the tunnel was filmed with a tri-pod symbolising James’ professionalism.

In terms of representation, I noticed that the character of Cobb in Inception is represented as the best within his field; he educates Ellen Page’s character on the art of extraction. We took this concept and made sure that James was the Hooded Figure’s ‘best client’.

We used Warner Bros which is one of the most popular thriller institutions, it was used for The Dark Knight and Inception. We wanted to give off the same level quality and so we used WB to do so.

One technique we used to stand out was the use of a song to amplify the emotion of the opening rather than an original score which is the norm for thriller films
