Use of image and background

In image A the background has been chosen well because where it is a dark background it makes all the text and the model of the magazine stand out which make it catch the eye of the reader.

In image B the creator of the magazine has not thought about the background of this magazine they have just taken the image in a random area of what looks like a house.

Use of masthead In image A had a very effective masthead the reason being it goes well with the colour and it looks professional behind the models head.

The mas head isn’t good because it doesn’t match the back ground and it doesn’t match some of the other coloured fonts.

Use of straplines In image A there are a lot of straplines used with a lot of interesting stories to them f compareisation or example why we love blackberry. The colours go well also.

The straplines used are not interesting neither do the colours match.

Other features The puff stands out because it is a complete different colour compared to the others used in this magazine.

The barcode is too big.The photo was taken behind a curtain of some sort or it was added in Photoshop. The photo wasn’t taken in a good spot.

Analysis and profile of my audience research

After charting my results of my research I have concluded that more female sixth form students are interested in reading magazines than the males of the sixth form. This means I will aim my magazine mainly at female readers but I want to make it part male so I can get more readers. I have also discovered that both male and female readers prefer to read about music in their magazines and from other research magazine readers like news and gossip in there magazine which will go well if I create a music magazine. 2 readers that put other said that they read music magazines! Magazine and one said that she likes to read Q so I will aim my magazine at an audience that like to read magazines that involves music.

Page 10: Media A Level Music Magazine

Annotating my preliminary magazine cover

Image (medium close up) The reason why I put the image on the right side of the page is because when the photo was taken I didn’t focus on getting the whole of him in the photo.

Secondary ImageThe reason why I had added this image is so that it matches the strap line underneath of the image and I wanted it to look as if it would give my target audience more of a reason to buy the magazine.

StraplinesI have made my straplines biggest to smallest indicating what the main parts of my magazine will be and I have made the main one blue which is effective because it attracts my audiences eye to it. I need to add more straplines to my magazine next time round.

MastheadMy mast head is very effective the reason being it is nice looking and very ‘slick’. I had got my masthead from a font website but the name of it was my own idea.

Evaluation of my magazine cover

The Masthead of my magazine ‘Sixth Music’ in my opinion was a good title and I also think that the font I used was also good, I got the font from a website Dafont.com. The main image of my magazine wasn’t very well taken because I cut the left side of his body out. So for when I start my main magazine I will focus on taking a good photo that shows most of the person. I chose a good background colours and fonts but I should have thought more about adding an more colour too it. The straplines I had chosen to write I thought were interesting and also people who see it also said the same.

Page 12: Media A Level Music Magazine

Cover Analysis

Masthead – The masthead is in big, bold, black capital letters with a exclamation mark. The masthead also has a cracked glass look on it. The masthead emphasis the loudness of the magazine by putting cracked glass and an exclamation mark. The glass on the masthead represents what the readers like in their music: loudness, aggression, glass shattering, and which also shows signs of hostility in the magazine which is also present in the music.

Colour Choices – In the KERRANG! Magazine the main colour choices are Black and White but in this particular magazine they have used red which links to the main story of the magazine. This magazine has a lot of red because it connotes lots of different things like blood, danger and violence which links to the audience, genre and theme of the magazine.

Puff – The puff of this magazine looks as if blood has been shed on to the magazine which links to the magazine well because it sends out a violent message to the readers. It also links to the quote because it says “Violence we were like pit bulls”. It links to the main image because the model is dressed like a clown which links to horror films which involve blood and violence.

Main Image – The main image of the magazine links to the readers likes and interests in this genre of music because the model is in a prison jumpsuit which appeals the readers because they are rebellious, reckless and enjoy violence in their music along with the content of their magazines.

Audience Profile

From my research my magazine will be aimed at people from the age of 16-26. It will be aimed at both genders and most ethnicity who likes Hip-Hop/Rap music within the UK and the US because most UK hip-hop fashion within the UK is influenced by the US. My audience will also have an interest in Hip-Hop fashion and lifestyle. An example of what I will include In my magazine will be information on the latest music and also the latest clothing releases example of this would be latest shoes like Jordan's. After my analysis of XXL magazine my magazine will be similar to that the reason being it focuses on the biggest Hip-Hop and Rap songs and also Hip-Hop fashion which is also as important as music in their magazine. My magazine will be similar to theirs because will focus on the biggest Hop-Hop and Rap songs up to this date also fashion will also be as important along with news on Basketball (NBA). My audiences magazine buying habits would be magazine like VIBE, Slam (NBA Magazine) and also The Source. My Audiences interests they may have would be Hip-Hop fashion, playing Basketball or other sports, musical interests, making music like producing, rapping or singing and my audience like to go to parties and clubs so in general just enjoying themselves. My question helped me out to find out a lot about my audience like the activities they do and the artists they enjoy listening to. My questionnaire was very helpful when helping me to determine my audience for my magazine.

Page 15: Media A Level Music Magazine

Direct Mode of address – the fact that Jay Z is looking straight at the camera will attract the readers attention straight away because the reader will feel as if they have a connection with him.

Main Image – This image takes up the whole page because they want the reader to know the main focus which is Jay Z. The mise en scene of the image his apparel which are glass, chains around his neck and a black T Shirts shows he is stylish and his facial expression shows him as being serious. The colour they added which is red and blue shows he has dark side which is show in the interview.

Feature Title – The feature title show it is part of an on going article and this ones main focus is Jay Z and next month it will be someone completely different. The title is in a serif show it to be profession and the way it is laid it is boxed by two lines with two black lines which makes it look very nice.

Column – the colours and spilt in to long paragraphs across the whole page. The Bit H and T makes the text look professional and shows the text to be most important and where it actually starts. Its makes the article more directed at the audience. The big red letter J – The big red letter also catches the readers attention because it is just out there and takes up the whole page and it being the colour red makes it more eye catching because it over powers the white background. It is also the first letter of Jay Z’s name which makes the whole article about him. The letter is also translucent which also makes it that much more effective

Quote – The quote is in capital letters making it much more eye catching than if it was in normal lettering. It is laid out nicely with the a nice looking red box to make it more professional.

Page 16: Media A Level Music Magazine

Direct Mode of Address –Both 50 Cent and Soulja Boy are looking at the camera showing that the interview is aimed at the audience which links to the quote on the second page because it is about the audience and other people. By looking into the camera it makes the reader feel a connection with the people in the magazine. This also links back to the Q magazine double page spread I analysed where Jay Z was on the left taking up the whole page with a quote to the right of it.

Mise en scene – Both 50 sent and Soulja Boy are wearing stylish but casual clothing with chains and Soulja Boy wearing a flashy belt to show that why have money. The body language of Soulja Boy is linking to the quote meaning that he can be touched by people that don’t like him which links to 50 Cent standing still behind him looking like his body guard and he is there for his protection.

Quote – This takes up most of the page showing this is what the article is going to be about. It being in capital letters links to what he is saying because he is yelling. The explicit language used within the quote makes the read feel shocked by what they have read and makes them see what type of person these 2 artists actually are

Column – The text is split in to two sections makes the text look nice and short and doesn’t make the read think it is some type of chore to read it.

White Space – The which space make the text stand out more they have done this so that the reader will not get distracted by anything else while they are reading the article.

Page 17: Media A Level Music Magazine

MastheadThe Masthead will be at the top left corner of the page to make the cover look nice and neatStraplines

The straplines will surround the main image on the cover so it can be visible. It also is good to have them spaced out on the page so the readers of the magazine can undoubtedly see what will be featured inside of the magazine.

Music Magazine Cover Comparison

Masthead: - Vibe and Kerrang! are two completely different magazine with two completely different styles and also the genre of music involved. Vibe is more Hip-Hop/Rap and Kerrang! is all types of Rock music. VIBE have a more modern and smooth Masthead which has had time taken on it because it is a monthly magazine unlike Kerrang! Which is a weekly magazine. VIBE has put T.I in front of the masthead because where it is so popular you would know what it is by just the two remaining letters. Kerrang! Have done the same thing because it is popular with there target audiences. because the masthead is a punkish type font because it has lines that look like broken class and the text has ragged edges that looks like torn paper. The explanation mark which represents loudness which attracts there target audience.

Straplines - On VIBE there is caption that says 'T.I Exclusive' which inevitably  catches the readers eyes straight away because it is one of the biggest texts on the page. Exclusive means that you will only be able to see it in this one magazine no where else which will get the magazine more readers. Most of the straplines on VIBE are eye catching because of the colours used black and white which show clearly because of the back ground. Kerrang! is completely different because there is one text that can be classed as a strapline and it is the Paramore one all the other text looks like puffs because they look as if they were just stuck on.

Supporting Image - Vibe does not have a supporting image the reason being they don't want the magazine looking cluttered they want it to look profession unlike Kerrang! that have a few supporting images this is because they are a weekly magazine and the more images they use they hope will get them more buyers each week. The supporting image of Paramore isn't professionally taken it just like an normal image that could have been taken at any point so it wont do much to persuade the buyers. The images below are just pictures of the posters and what will be on them so this may persuade the buyers because they may like the artists on the posters which may persuade them to buy it.

Centre Image - Both of the centre images on both magazines are what will attract the readers to buy them because they are big and take up most of the page. On vibe T.I has a serious look on his face wearing a hat and tilted to side the colour of it is black and so is his top which goes well with the back ground of the magazine this shows that the designer have really thought about the magazine and are keeping it professional. His facial expression and Body languae in the Mise En Scene is serious and a looks like he is a professional much like the magazine. You Me at Six on Kerrangs! Magazine are huddled together to show how close they are as a group and as band. They all have different expressions on their faces and the one that attrachts you the most is Josh Franchesci Shouting to show that they are rebel like and loud which goes with the Masthead of the magazine which has an exclamation which to show that it is loud and out there. Josh shouting is also stereotypical because the magazine is a rock based genre in which that genre of music is generally loud.

Publication - Kerrang! do have a publication in which it is the date, price and barcode which is all shown underneath on the bottom of the magazine unlike Vibe which does not they only have the barcode.

Page 19: Media A Level Music Magazine

Music Magazine Cover Comparison Part 2

Brand Values - Vibe make there magazine look up to is professional standard and make it look as if they want to be the number one hip hop magazine out which they are. They do this by getting the legends of hip hop on there magazine and they also include lots of exclusive stuff in there magazine much like interviews. Kerrang! Also want to be the best rock/metal magazine out there they do attempt this really well for being a weekly magazine I know this from my research which they are the most popular rock magazine in the united kingdom to this date.

Mise En Scene - The mise en scene of vibe is that they use a dark background to make the text show out more. They image you can see the type of style that the people of hip hop have like the hat for example most hip hop artists do wear hats which makes the reader feel a connection the artist on the front of the cover. TI's facial expression and body language represents how serious he is and how serious the magazine it also represents how serious he is as a person and how he is about his music and what he does.  Kerrang! Has given the band on front of there magazine a microphone to show the loudness of the magazine which represents the genre of the magazine well a part from that there is not much more except from the facial expression and body language which shows the band as some being being happy and laid back, one is angry person of the group then you got the lead vocals Josh who is shouting showing his as being loud and reckless.

Connotation - The connotation of Vibe is that T.I is stylish and serious this is shown by his style and the way he is positioned. The connotation of Kerrnag! is that You Me at Six are stylish by what they are wearing and shows which each of the band members are as parts of the band which is shown by there different facial expressions.

Representation - The Representation of Vibe it is a monthly magazine which means they take care of they magazine by making it look professional and putting everything together to there full ability. Kerrang! is a weekly magazine is does not look professional but it still does appeal to their target audience. In conclusion to this Vibe is a monthly magazine in which it is more professional done un-like kerrnag! which is a weekly magazine which is the opposite.

Page 20: Media A Level Music Magazine

Contents Page Analysis

XXL is a monthly magazine which costs around £4 to purchase meaning they take care of how the magazine looks by doing it to their full potential making it look the very best it can and making it look professional and neat. Colour- XXL had kept their home colour theme keeping it basic and focusing more on the images used. .The colour black is used a lot like in a lot of magazines and there is little a red which goes with the magazine because it is there home colour and it juxtaposes the text.

Font- XXL make the text in their magazine look very neat and professional by using serif fonts in the magazine. They use san-serif fonts on there titles and numbering in big bold writing to make it stand out, catches the persons eye and makes it look more modern.

Images- By adding images to the contents page they have put the main story the biggest with information about the article and the page number. 50 Cent and Soulja Boy were on the front cover which also links to this because it also shows they are main story of the magazine. They have add one bigger picture which makes it another big story and 4 smaller images which shows they are big stories but not as big as the 2 bigger images.

Layout- XXL have used a unique way of laying out a contents page by using 'A-Side and B-Side' this is a very different way of setting out a contents page from my research XXL have said that A-Side are the most biggest and important stories in the magazine including exclusive interviews and articles that other magazines wont have and B-Side are big stories but not as big as A-Side because B-Side include things like Charts, album information and upcoming artists. As you can see there is a black line on both A and B-side separating text B-Side includes not very important information like Editorials and Letters  On A-Side they go very text heavy including lots of text and one main image but on B-Side they use more images and have very little text.

Page 21: Media A Level Music Magazine

Cover Analysis 2

•Masthead: The masthead XXL is big and bold and goes with the colour scheme used on this magazine. The XXL meaning extra extra large is effect because it emphasises how big the magazine  actually is and how big the musicians are •Colour Choices: The colours of this magazine go well because it makes the red stand out a lot more and also it gives the main image more glow.•Main image: The main image is effective because it shows two big starts which will attract more fans the reason being a person may not like one artist but like the other which will gain more buyers

Page 22: Media A Level Music Magazine

XXL Cover Analysis

This cover appeals to XXL's audience because of the people involved on the cover who is music artist Wiz Khalifa and his model girl friend Amber Rose. Wiz Khalifa is a massive Hip-Hop artist which links very well to the magazines audience who is mostly fans of this genre of music. In this image Wiz has a threatening face which goes well with the strap line 'NOBODY BEATS THE WIZ' his tattoos represent him as having a reckless life style and his hat, chain and earrings show that he is doing well for himself because he is getting a good income. Amber Rose to his side the way it seems that she is bound to him also links to the strapline. The strapline to the left says what most of the image means with out that there would be many things that this image could represent. Both strap lines link because it has a list of his successes and then it says that nobody can beat him meaning he is at the top of his game. The fact that the magazine is in black and white with the title being red along with the strap line makes the strap a lot more powerful because it is one of the first things you see The colour red juxtaposes the black and white from the rest of the magazine. On the cover Wiz Khalifa's head is blocking part of the masthead which is done because XXL is a popular magazine so most people would know the magazine just by seeing the first letters

Page 23: Media A Level Music Magazine

Production Week One – I need to know who my target audience and I need to know about them. So to start off my

production I am going to make a Questionnaire and give it to people and hopefully from this I will get some good feed back and with the feedback I will know who my target audience is.

Week Two – Now I have enough information about my target audience, I would also like to get to know about different music magazine target audiences so I have a wider range of knowledge about readers who buy music magazines. I will look at the magazines, Vibe, Kerrang and XXL because they are well known music magazine with different types of audience in terms of age, gender and social class.

Week Three – This week I will look at different magazine covers to widen my knowledge and to give me a good idea on what I will do for my front cover. I will also compare covers to see what is similar and different I will do this using covers from Vibe and Kerrang.

Week Four – After looking at magazine c overs I want to get a good idea for my contents page so to do this will research in to different types. From this I will know different kind of layouts and ideas on what to include on my contents page.

Week Five – Now I have covered my Cover and Contents page I will research Double Page Spreads. To do this I will look at a wide range of them from all different magazines to get an idea on the articles and the layouts they have.

Week Six – For week six this week I will research one of the most important things on my magazine the mast head I will look into many different mastheads from different magazines. I will also do this for the different type of straplines I could add so I researched into straplines to. I will like at a magazine of all different genres to get a good idea of both straplines and mastheads.

Week Seven – Once I have researched into everything I will then move on to planning them by creating a plan of layout for my magazine, contents page and Double Page Spread. I will also write up my article before I put it on to the double page spread to make it the best I can. I will also have a photo-shoot that I can get photos for all three pages. Once I have completed all of this I will then create my magazine.

Week Eight –Now I have finished my magazine I will make any adjustments and make sure it is perfect and then I will evaluate my performance.

Page 24: Media A Level Music Magazine

This magazine needs to appeal to a young a rebellious audience so to do this they have made their masthead big and loud which is also said on the cover and it looks like broken glass which makes it seem rebellious.

The name of the masthead, bubbles is a big clue that the magazine is mainly aimed at girls.. The illustrator purposely because it gives the masthead and magazine a feminine feel. In nearly all bubbles magazine covers, the masthead covers the top of the main image therefore the illustrator wanted the masthead to be the first thing the audience look at.

Masthead

My masthead is FLOW and the reason why I had chose is because it goes with rap music because to be a

good artist you need to have a good FLOW of rhyme. I made it big and bold for it to stand and to represent

that it is the biggest and best magazine in the industries and it has the biggest artists inside.

Page 25: Media A Level Music Magazine

Masthead Planning

FLOW – Poplar STDFLOW – Agency FBFLOW - AharoniFLOW – Basic Sans HeavyFLOW - CairoFor my magazine I need a type of font that would appeal to my audience so I chose Poplar STD because it is big ang bold and it goes well with my target audience. The reason behind the name of my magazine is because Flow I mean the flow of how rapping goes

Page 26: Media A Level Music Magazine

Straplines

For a magazine the straplines are very important because without good and catchy straplines it may not draw in your audience so here are examples of effective and non effective ones.

Effective:

These 2 straplines are effective because they are unique and are creative which will connect with the reader and will make him/her buy the magazine.

Not effective:

The reason why I think this is not effective is because it is not catchy and it doesn’t really send out a exciting message it is pretty much a statement telling us what the magazine will include So in conclusion a good strapline had to be catchy and has a good font that will make the strapline standout

Page 27: Media A Level Music Magazine

Photo’s

I arranged to have a photo shoot where we had a professional camera, white screen and lighting. I took well over 300 photos including different models but I only chose one. For the front cover I have to get a photo which had a direct mode of address. For the contents page I have to choose an image that goes with the page and also has a direct mode of address. Finally I have my double page spread which I need to have an image that goes well with the article.

Page 28: Media A Level Music Magazine

Representation of a cover starThe representation of a cover is a representation of a magazine and if the cover star doesn’t send out the right image it wont appeal to the magazines audience for example if Chris brown were to be the cover star of Kerrang there would not be any sales because Chris Brown isn’t the type of music artist to be featured on the magazine and he doesn’t have the style that would appeal to that particular audience. So my cover star would be the type of person that you would expect to see on the front cover of magazines for XXL and Vibe so I would need someone with that type of style and who has the image to show that they would belong in that type of music genre. I want the mise en scene of the image to be serious so for my cover star facial expression I want him to look serious like he means business by pull a straight face and I want him to be direct so looking straight into the camera. I want him sat on a chair to show that he is top and I want him arched over with his elbows on his knees and his hands linked and just under his chin. I want him to wear a suit that would also link to the image which would give out the message of him being serious and meaning business.

Page 29: Media A Level Music Magazine

The Q reader

Q 34% of females read Q magazine and 66% males. So Q’s target audience is mainly males. you would expect to males in to things such as sport or fitness related stories. 68% of audience A, B and C read Q which is not that surprising considering Q is the UK’s best selling music monthly magazine. Also, Its opinions are so trusted that they shape the views of artists and readers alike. As the table shows the highest percentage is 38% for ages ranging from fifteen to twenty four. Q’s brand values are that their audience is younger and more prosperous than any other music magazine. However 38% is not that high therefore Q’s readers are quite mixed in age. Even adults from forty five to fifty four read Q which is not expected. To summarise, Q’s target audience are working males who are in the age range of 15-24. To buy Q, they must be very interested in music and hearing other peoples reviews and opinions on albums, radio stations and live concerts.

Page 30: Media A Level Music Magazine

The Kerrang Reader

As you can see from the gender ration Kerrang is mainly males based because 20% more males read it than females. The main age that read is 15-24 because the magazine is mainly teenagers to young adult based and it is a weekly magazine so the magazine doesn’t really fit the appeal of older readers. As you can also see there are some people older than 24 that read it even 1% of the readers are 65+. So in conclusion to this the magazine fits the needs of people ages 15-25 and also some people older than that age do read it.

Front Cover ImageThis is my front cover image the reason behind the black and white and the red tie is so that it matches my theme colour which is red and the I thought a black and white image would go well.

The mise en scene of the image is meant to be him looking like he had it all because of my main strapline that goes with the image.

Evaluation

Page 35: Media A Level Music Magazine

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The reason why I think HARRIS Publications would distribute and publish my music magazine is because they are massively involved with lots of Hip-Hop cultured magazines for example XXL, Scratch and King. It founded in 1985 by Stanley R. Harris. It is based in New York City and started off by doing Comics, Science Magazines and Weaponry now they are popular for doing Hip-Hop Magazines and Men's Magazines which have a Hip Hop Style to it.

I think that Harris Publications would feel privileged to distribute and Publish my magazine because it really relates to their target audience which is Hip-Hop/Rap fans. They also have an interest in fashion. My magazine links to both of their Hip-Hop magazines because their and my cover represents power and that we as the creators of our magazines show ourselves to mean business. HARRIS Publications goal is to get a wide range of audiences for every magazine they release so that is the reason for their many different magazine types.

Page 36: Media A Level Music Magazine

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Front Cover

My main image has more dominance than any other content on my page. I wanted my main image to represent young males between the ages of 16-25 and who are involved within the Hip-Hop area and they are very masculine. The masculinity of the my main image if from the suit because it represents him having power and he means business this would also represent my social economic group in this particular way because this is the message my main image and the model within my main image is sending out. Having my model dressed like this wont really effect anything in general but it will show that this particular social group as respectful and stylish. I put my model Jason in a suit which is unusual for a Hip-Hop magazine but I chose to do this because I wanted to show that my magazine and the Hip-Hop styled social group I am representing to be respectful, powerful and have dominance, this is the way I have successfully sent this message. Not only does this make it unusual for a Hip-Hop but it also sends the message that my magazine is unique. I have chosen a young black males between the age of 16 to 25 because this is who would link to my audience because Hip-Hop music that is the ethnicity that stereotypically link to Hip-Hop music. My model has a clam and natural to show that he is clam and means business this is also a positive thing.

My strapline I have used a gold font to represent my group as powerful and they mean business this strapline will influence my magazines audience to want to go to the festival to see this particular artist because it links to them and its telling them that HE is headlining and the fact that it is big and gold will show the power behind the magazines article and image.

Contents Page

My main image for the contents page represents men in a self-assured way. The outfit, boy language, facial expression all help in the way it represents my social group because it is sending out a positive message and it shows them to be powerful and strong. The suit represents hierarchy and what you would expect from a formal high class magazine like vogue if it were meant to be for males. My contents page is mainly the colour red is the colour that you would mainly see with hop artists so it would represents the group in a stylish way. The web links which is at the top of the features box presents males as people who are interested in social network sites. The fact that I have included a website for the company for my magazine flow shows that my target social group which are black young black males that are interested in Hip-Hop music are computer illiterate but most of my audience would be more interested in just reading the magazine online instead of just on a magazine. Also the web link to Facebook presents young black males with the chance to get involved with the magazine.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

From my research my magazine will be aimed at people from the age of 16-26. It will be aimed at both genders and most ethnicity who likes Hip-Hop/Rap music within the UK and the US because most UK hip-hop fashion within the UK is influenced by the US. My audience will also have an interest in Hip-Hop fashion and lifestyle. And a example of what I will include In my magazine will be information on the latest music and also the latest clothing releases example of this would be latest shoes like Jordan's.

My Cover star will appeal to my audience because he fits the stereotype of what a hip hop artist would usually look like. The reason for this is because his style and the way he looks for example his hair and earing which you would usually see Hip-Hop artists with. He also seems that he means business which also fits the stereotype of music artists.

The background is very eye catching which is one of the main reasons I had chosen but the only negative thing about the background of the magazine. And I had chose to do it this way because in my opinion this would attract my target audience because it is big and bold.

The title of my magazine 'FLOW' would appeal to my target audience because it links to the music my magazine is based because it represents the 'FLOW' of music when rappers or hip-hop artists make music. Its big and bold to which makes it stand out and the red contrasts from the red.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

By looking at my final pieces and my preliminary pieces you can see that I have greatly improved my skills on Photoshop and have made an excellent piece that is much better than the preliminary. Even just by the images I had used for example my front cover images look more professionally done than my preliminary images the reason for this is because I wanted to make them look as professional as I can and I have completed that goal. My front cover (Final Cover), The image on my front cover I have dramatically edited by using the black and white filter but also keeping his tie which red which was its original colour. The reason why I had chosen to do this was because red is my home colour so I intended to have a link to the colour within my image by making my model wear a red tie. I have chosen to keep a professional looking font and to keep it nice and bold my main strapline stand out most because I have made it brighter, bigger and bolder.

My contents page (final piece) since I have made my preliminary my skills have massively improved and I have made huge progression in my skills when using Photoshop to create a contents page because as you can see I have put a lot of effort in to my final piece by typing an editors note, making a festival line-up poster to make it more appealing for my readers and also the amount of features I have added to make it look good and to make it interest the reader. My preliminary task Is very poor in features and effort put in to it and I have not added anything very appealing nor does it look good. I have learnt and improved in my writing skills my typing my own editors note by what I generally thought of my magazine and how I would feel if this magazine were to actually be released out on to the shelves of shops. I learnt how to write my features in detail so that it could interact with the reader and they could really know what the magazine will include and know about the article before they read it.

In conclusion to this since making my preliminary front cover and contents page I am now comfortable with most Adobe Photoshop tools by learning to do things I struggled to use when making my preliminary task for example colour and exposure, sharpen tool and healing tool. After completing my final piece I could easy say that I could do much more to improve it and make it better than it already is.

How did you attract/address your audience?

My front covers colour scheme was a vital method of attracting my audience also address the magazines style. I chose the colour this particular red because it represents joy, passion, leadership, courage and willpower. These are the messages I wanted my magazine to have because I want it to be a popular magazine which shows power, business and professionalism.

The reason behind my Flow Masthead is because its big, bold and it represents what you need to be in the Hip-Hop industries because it means the Flow as in how you deliver you music. This would attract my audience because it has meaning and it is eye catching and the audience would understand its meaning.

The model is using a direct mode of address and his face is straight and powerful because it is showing you that has power, means business and that he is the face of Flow Magazine so he wants to show the audience that he is the best at what he does. The audience would like they way he looks because he looks like what most hip hop artists would look like these days because they like to show strength and courage. For example Hip-Hop artists like Ice Cube, 50 Cent and even past rappers like Biggie Smalls and Tupac. These particular artists are HIP-HOP and that is why I had chosen to make model like them because I want him to have the look of hip hop and be represented as Hip-Hop its self as having power and reputation.

How did you attract/address your audience?

With my contents page I used a lot of features so that I was able to get my audiences attention from doing this I gave the audience a lot to look at and also a look to take in, this would hopefully make them want to continue reading the magazine.

Monthly Subscription Notice: I added this because in most magazines you would see this and it engages the reader to want to get a subscription for a good price which would earn the magazines more money and it would also keep the reader up to date with every issue of the magazine until there subscription ends and if so they may get a new one.

Images: My main image I used I wanted Jason to point at the top of the magazine with his comb which directs the readers eyes to the magazines informations which will attract them to the Facebook and Twitter pages which will further create interaction with my audience. I also created a Festival Poster which I put in it and this will further back up the idea of Jason heading because it states his name on the poster.

Features: To attract my audience I used a lot of features and also some detailed description on what that page will include this will attract my audience because by reading it will persuade them to want to carry on reading to that page. One of the features was a page number for album reviews and I put some album covers there. The album covers are very popular albums within Hip-Hop music so I put them there get the readers attention so that they would get an Idea and want to read that page.
