“Medea Melea” (Original title in Greek: Μήδεια Μελέα) an experimental short film written and directed by Christos Karabelas.
Through an intriguing visual approach, it focuses on the myth of Euripides, and his most famous Greek tragedy, Medea. “Melea” means black, dark on the inside and is the first word used in the
theatre play to describe the character of Medea.
The movie aims to illuminate a side on ancient drama that remains shadowed: What would happen if the three protagonists met and expressed their points of view freely, without deception or lie. What
would they say if they had had the conflict that they denied each other?
Featuring artistic and symbolic elements, “Medea Melea” portrays the course of this woman: Starting from the roots of her story, when she met Jason, left her homeland and married him to her
coming to Greece, where she gave birth to their children, was betrayed and decided to take revenge...

ABOUT DIRECTOR
Christos Karabelas (born August 1984) is a Greek film director and screenwriter. His first self-produced short film “Medea Melea” (2014) was entered into the Short Film Corner of the Cannes International Film Festival (2015), the International Short Film Festival in Drama (2014) and the
Athens International Film Festival (2014) of Greece.
He has been involved in script-writing and directing films and theatre plays.
He has graduated from the Communication and Media Studies department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He studied theatre directing in the drama school of Greek Art
Theatre (Theatro Technis) Karolos Koun.
For the past decade he has been working as a professional journalist and cartoonist for various newspapers of Greece and newsrooms.
