Through the CAA – “ the focus of KLOE 3.1 is on the organisation's own impact on the environment from the resources it consumes in the delivery of its services. ...

“ Audit Commission, 2009”

For the first time we are required to measure our use of…..

EnergyI ncluding

How are we addressing this ?

Corporately – we have

adopted and published

the Council’s Environment

Policy 2009/2013 In Partnership – we have

adopted and published

the City’s Climate Change

Action Plan 2009/2011 Citywide Climate Change

Commission – expertise.

Page 5: Measuring Resource Use: Jackie Young

But why tackle this now ?

Financial – lower costs/expenditure

Legal – meeting liabilities

Audit – CAA

Reputations – leadership role

Environmental Management – win/win senario

Partnership working – we can not do this alone

Use the help available carefully….

Page 10: Measuring Resource Use: Jackie Young

Translated in to an initial carbon footprint in 2008 of ….

121,737 tCO2

Even that was then updated by researching….

Petrol and Diesel Water (m3)

So is that it ?.....Unfortunately not !How does data help to plan ahead ?

Disregard Include

Our carbon footprint in

2008/09 was 29,550 tCO2.

Cost of £354,600 in allowances.

Carbon Reduction Commitment requirements….

Page 12: Measuring Resource Use: Jackie Young

In Summary…..

Be prepared….know what you need and when.

Aim for more than you need – it is easier to extract the details.

Understand the conversions – when does tCO2 = £s

Be careful with verification – use a trusted source.

Seek help – The Carbon Trust for example.

Be open and honest – if you don’t know or can’t find out,

don’t try and hide it !

Use the networks available to help you.
