OUR WEEKLY MISSIONPainting St. Columbkille Progress: I am happy to report that our beautiful statue of St. Columbkille is almost finished being painted by the artists in the divine restoration workshop at Henninger’s. You’ll see in the picture to the left that the Book of Kells and his eyes still need to be completed. We consulted the artists who crafted the statue at the Demetz Studio in

Italy, and we are following the original paint design schemes. Once It is finished, I will let everyone know the pricing on how much it will cost to paint the additional statues and Stations of the Cross. I’ve had several parishioners come forward already who are going to be sponsoring the painting of the statues of the Holy Family. I can’t wait to have St. Columbkille returned to our church so you can see how beautiful the painting turned out!Welcome Back Students: This Wednesday we welcome back all our day school students in Kindergarten through 8th grade for the beginning of another amazing school year at St. Columbkille. This year we are excited to welcome our principal Mr. Andrew Richards in his new role (Andy was assistant principal last year) and we welcome Mr. George Mitchell, our new assistant principal. In addition, we welcome six new teachers to the building! We are blessed to have so many new faces in the St. Columbkille School family. The students will be continuing the tradition of celebrating Holy Mass as a school family every Friday morning at 8:15 a.m. beginning on August 23rd. Please keep all our students and teachers in your prayers! Never forget, the Lord is with us, always.

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SICKPlease keep in your prayers Vicki Bowens, Julie Card, Gary Solkiewicz and all the members of our parish who are ill. May the healing hands of Jesus Christ be upon them!If you would like your loved one’s or friend’s name on the "please pray for" list, please call the rectory office at (216) 524-1987. Please be sure that the person who is ill consents to have their name placed on the list.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRAYER

FATHER JAMIE’S HEALING HUMORA mother took her young son to Mass one Sunday morning. As Mass went on and on, he became restless. She tried, in vain, to assure the little boy that Mass would soon be over. Finally, he pointed to the tabernacle candle in the red glass container and asked: “Are we going to stay until that red light turns green?”

(from HOLY HUMOR by Cal and Rose Samra, 1996)Jesus came to light a fire within us; He has poured out the flame of the Holy Spirit upon us. But, we can allow that fire to make us glow with His love; or we can bank the flame and become lukewarm in our faith. Either way, hot or cool, is a costly choice that brings division – truth from lies, good from evil, love from hate.

WEEKLY SCRIPTURE PASSAGELet us pray together the verse from Saint Paul's letter to the Corinthians remembering that Paul is also speaking directly to us.“For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.” – 1 Corinthians 3:9

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION CHAPELThe Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, located in the Parish Center, is open daily between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. You DO NOT need an appointment. The Chapel is open to scheduled adorers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyone interested in spending a specific hour each week with Jesus, please call Scott or Amanda at (216) 310-6831.

WHEN FAMILY MEMBERS ARE ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL

When your family members are admitted to a hospital, please call the rectory office if your loved one is requesting a visit by one of our priests. Our priests visit the sick at University Hospital/Parma Medical Center when they are able. If they are a patient in another area hospital, let us know. The hospitals no longer notify us when a parishioner is admitted, so the only way we know is if the family calls the Parish Office.

MEN OF MERCY HONORED AS CITIZENS OF THE MONTH IN PARMA

Our Men of Mercy group was honored by the City of Parma as Citizens of the Month in June, 2019. The group was presented with a plaque, or proclamation. The Men of Mercy group feeds the hungry, shelters the homeless, buries the dead and performs other Corporal Works of Mercy. The “Men of Mercy” have donated thousands of dollars to needy individuals and families in our area.

CATHOLIC MEN’S FELLOWSHIPHello, men! Welcome! Here is a free offer. Come join us for an hour or two. We meet twice a month. We do not collect dues or record attendance. Instead we talk about life and values. We learn from each other’s experiences. We are excited to read short religious articles. We listen to a song or two (but do not sing along). We are not afraid to pray out loud. We are not holy yet, but maybe you can help improve us. Here is your opportunity to talk or just listen. It is usually the first and third Tuesday nights of every month, from 7:15 to 9:00 p.m. Come join us this Tuesday, August 20th, in the Parish Center. Questions? Please call Ron Snyder at (216) 396-1200.

NUNSENSE THE MUSICALSt. Columbkille Music Ministry will present Nunsense the Musical, by Dan Goggin, on the school stage November 8, 9, and 10, 2019. The musical comedy features a cast of females who are trying to raise money for

the Little Sisters of Hoboken. Auditions will be in church on Wednesday, August 28th at 7:00 p.m. All women ages high school and older are welcome to audition. Please prepare a short musical selection, have your sheet music with you and wear clothing that will allow you to do a dance audition as the show has a good deal of choreography. Parishioners and guests are welcome and encouraged to participate. For more information, contact Jon Thibo, Director of Music at (216) 524-1987, ext. 27 or [email protected].

MUSIC MINISTRY SEEKING NEW MEMBERSSt. Columbkille Music Ministry is seeking new members! We are especially in need of female singers and people who have been in school, college or church choirs in the past and are looking for that spiritual connection and community that we offer here. All new prospective members of the adult choirs should be high school age and older. Handbell Choir is seeking new ringers as well, especially those who may read music and have strong arms for the larger bells.Anyone interested in becoming a part of this vital ministry which adds to the prayer and liturgical life of our parish should feel free to see Jon Thibo, Director of Music after any Mass, or call for an appointment. Singers will be asked to meet with the Director and sing a bit to find the best choir for their gifts.

Our Grief Support leaders are certified as Ministers of Consolation by the National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved, Inc. Our Catholic-based support group meetings are informal and do not build upon each other so you can drop in any month and fit right in. We meet on the 3rd Sunday of every month at 3:00 p.m., except on holidays, when we meet the 4th Sunday. The next support Group is the 3rd Sunday, August 18th at St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon (temporary trailer office); Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron (office); and Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park (office). The topic for August will be: “Secondary and Cumulative Loss.”Two new Support Groups will start in the Fall: Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland (Miles Avenue) in September, and All Saints Cemetery, Northfield in October. If you are interested in participating at these new Grief Support Group locations, please contact Rhonda at the number listed below. No registration is required. Just come and join us. For more information, visit our website https://www.clecem.org/Information/Bereavement.aspx or contact Rhonda at (216) 930-4866 or [email protected].

WE’RE TAKING OUR SENIORS TO CAMP!And you can come, too! Residents from the St. Augustine Health Campus will once again return to Camp Cheerful in Strongsville the week of August 19-22. Many will stay overnight and more will come out each day to enjoy fishing, swimming, horses, cookouts, sing-a-longs and the great outdoors. Volunteers are needed from 9:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. each day, Monday through Thursday, either individually or as a group. Come out and help residents fish, swim, play cards/games or move around the camp; bring, cook or help serve a meal; visit one-on-one. Join us for a morning, an afternoon, all day or all week. Your participation will ensure our residents have the fun camp experience they’ve looked forward to all year. Saint Augustine said, “What does love look like? It has the hands to help others.” Please contact Mary Gagen, Volunteer Manager, at (216) 939-7601 or [email protected].

PRAYER FOR THE BEGINNING OF A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Gracious God,As the summer begins to fade,

new possibilities lie on the horizon.Bless all those who are beginning or returning to their roles as teachers and catechists as well as those who

lead and support them in their efforts.May this school year be a time of grace and potential as they teach, share, and challenge others to grow in

faith, knowledge, and wisdom.Bless children and youth, along with their parents,

as they begin a new school year.May their minds be open to learning and to the

wonder of discovery and insight.Be with us all as we embark on this new year.

Amen
