COMMUNITY UPDATE 2 SEPTEMBER 2015

The NSW Government is upgrading Meadowbank Wharf and interchange as part of the Transport Access Program. It is expected work will start in late 2015 and take about five months to complete.
BACKGROUND
Transport for NSW is improving Sydney’s ferry services for customers. New and upgraded wharves and interchanges are being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program. This program has already delivered new facilities at Milsons Point, Neutral Bay, Rose Bay, Balmain (Thames Street), Huntleys Point, Cremorne Point, Mosman Bay, Drummoyne, Balmain East, Sydney Olympic Park and Pyrmont Bay.
The wharf upgrade at Meadowbank is part of transport improvements along the Parramatta River with upgraded wharves, extra ferry services and new ferries.
The work schedule for the upgrade is being planned to minimise disruptions to F3 Parramatta River ferry services to Meadowbank during construction. However, there will be times when safe operations will not be possible and Meadowbank Wharf will be
temporarily closed. Details about changes to ferry services will be provided when planning for the upgrade is finalised.
THE FERRY WHARF AND INTERCHANGE UPGRADE AT MEADOWBANK
The upgraded wharf and interchange is designed to provide customers with accessible, safe and comfortable public transport infrastructure.
The upgraded wharf will incorporate a new floating pontoon, aluminium gangway and concrete bridge connecting to the existing wharf entry structure which will be refurbished. The pontoon will have a curved roof, new seating and glass weather protection panels. The bridge and gangway will be covered.
The upgraded interchange will include new footpaths and ramps, bicycle racks and updated kiss and ride and accessible parking areas.

NEW MEADOWBANK WHARF AND INTERCHANGE TEMPORARY WORK SITES FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES
The wharf and interchange upgrade will provide:
} Better protection from the wind, rain and sun
} Improved seating and waiting areas
} Improved safety for customers
} Quicker and more efficient ferry boarding and disembarking
} Improved access for mobility impaired customers and customers with prams
} Improved pedestrian access
} Efficient interchanges with other modes of transport
} Effective wayfinding signage and lighting.
Consultation to hear feedback about the wharf and interchange upgrade was carried out in April and May 2015. The concept designs for the wharf and interchange upgrade have been developed taking in consideration feedback from the community and the local operational and environmental conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION
It is expected work will start in late 2015 and take about five months to complete, weather and maritime conditions permitting. There will be times when safe ferry operations will not be possible and Meadowbank Wharf will be temporarily closed.
Details about any changes to ferry services will be provided when planning for the upgrade is finalised.
Bus services will continue as usual and the Bowden Street carpark will remain open however, there may be some restrictions to access to accommodate construction.
A temporary construction compound will be established on land. The standard work hours will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm Saturday. Some of the work during these times will be noisy.
Early morning or night work, including installation of piles, will be required when the water is at its calmest. This will generate noise. We will notify nearby residents and businesses before any work is carried out outside of standard hours.
Equipment for the construction of the wharf will include barges, cranes and service boats. Construction workers and equipment will usually be transported to and from the site by water.
A traffic and pedestrian management plan will be in place during construction. Work will include some truck movements, these will be limited to 15 per day.
Most of the new structures including sections of the wharf will be built off site and transported to the site for installation.
