Dear Parents and Carers Welcome back after the holiday break. I hope you all had a relaxing time with your children. Parent Teacher Meetings are on Wednesday, 24 July. You should have your appointment time and if you do not as yet, please ring the school and make an appointment. Your child’s

classroom teacher is looking forward to having a conversation with you to discuss your child’s progress, as well as offering some suggestions on how you can assist at home. Our school vision is to unlock the potential of all learners. We are all learners – the students, staff and parents. Parent Teacher Meetings are an opportunity for teachers to assist you with strategies to help your child’s learning. Please ensure that you ask them for support if there is an area you would like to know more about so you can help your child at home. Each week in the newsletter, there will be items with suggestions in Numeracy, Literacy and student wellbeing to assist you as learners to help your child. Numeracy Activities To Do At Home

Children can:

Investigate the units of measurement for items in the pantry or refrigerator

Cut the sandwich in half: “Can you cut the sandwich in half creating a different shape?”

Mix a drink for the family eg measuring cordial, fruit and water

Estimate how much each item weighs, then check how close the estimates are

Find the time we start cooking the rice so that our food is ready to be served at the same

time?

Change a recipe that serves 6 for 4 people (or 6 for 3 people for lower levels). How much of

each ingredient will we need?

Be a junior Masterchef eg measure and weigh ingredients, apply ratio, consider cooking time, and serve portion sizes Measurement

Cut a piece of string for your child – any length will do. Use the string to measure the objects in

your house to find out what is longer or shorter than your ‘string measuring tape’. Ask your child

to identify anything that is the same length.

School Wide Positive Behaviour at

Meadow Heights PS

This term the SWPBS team will be concentrating on

acknowledging student positive behaviour with a focus on

our value of RESPECT.

We are also creating structured lunchtime activities

including gardening, chalk drawing, art, and skipping.

This is in addition to the gym and library activities

already in place.

Classrooms are all trialling circle time to begin each day. This involves a greeting, any news,

what’s happening, the reinforcing our values, and activities to start the day on a positive note.

At the end of the day this is repeated, focussing on what went well.

Some of our students are also planning to run competitions for students or teaching soccer to

younger children.

JSC is busy working on keeping our school clean through the Clean School Initiative, an award

that is presented each week at assembly to the grade that keeps their area free of litter.

As you can see, we have many positive things happening for our students at Meadow Heights

and many more to come!
