    Bank loan.

I recently obtained an application for a bank loan for a mobility tricycle as I havebeen finding it increasingly difficult to walk far enough to exercise my dog and to

convey my shopping up the steep hill to my home. I realised that the usual creditsearch would be done and was reminded of my long periods of enforcedunemployment leading up to 1990 which made me penniless and resulted in my car

being repossessed and a credit card debt of $2500 being written off. Since then, onthe pension, I have not been in debt and have, in fact, saved well to meet myunforeseen needs.

Out of fear my moul wanted to lie on the application about my poor credit andSpirit wanted the truth declared and the consequences accepted. I then decided to gowith Spirit but realised that it would be best to check the application form anyway.

This done, I found that there was no information sought about this sort of thing and,at a preliminary interview I had at the bank, this matter was not raised, nor did itoccur to me.

Next is the possibility that I may be asked about previous debts and the moulgenerated fear while Spirit simply required the truth.

    The dental prosthesis technician.

Ian went to a dental prosthesis technician over a month ago to get a quote and, after a

consultation he gave Ian an approximate quote and said he needed to speak to Iansdentist about the new technology he had suggested. He has not reverted to Ianalthough Ian knows that he has spoken to his dentist.

This non-communication is poor customer service whether due to disinterest orsimple slackness and, whilst I accepted this as the way either things are or the waythe man is, Ian wanted to point out his poor service, at moments to criticize him andat moments to guide him. I observed Ian vacillate between these two options and thethird of not doing anything at all - in other words allowing him to sort things out forhimself; something he would inevitably do at some time in the future.

Now I have prevailed and Ian accepts the status quo without rancour towards

    the man.

    Greying hair.

At about the age of 46 years Ian was single, his hair was rather grey and he wasvisiting a single club in the hope of finding a suitable partner. To make himself lookyounger he started using Grecian 2000 to return his hair to its normal colour and usedit for some time. Then, one day, I planted a thought in his moul which questioned thespiritual wisdom of what he was doing in regard to his hair and he thought to himself

something like, You are a fool! You are unable to accept yourself for what you are in

  • 7/29/2019 Me & Ian or Spirit & Earthling [As at 08.09.13.]

    5/14

terms of how you look. You are what you are, so be yourself. and stopped usingGrecian 2000.

    Spirit and moul.

Spirit is always positive, although it may not appear to be so for the unenlightened, and the moul is either negative or positive and often reactive.

    The Motorcycle shop owner.

Yesterday, I had a look at some wet weather gear at the local shop where he also leftsome notes he had with him. This morning he phoned the shop to tell the owner that, around the 19th August, he would buy the items he had looked at subject to theapproval of a loan for his new electric tricycle and the availability of the latter. The

owner was busy so Ian asked him to phone back when free. After about thirty minutes Ian was getting a bit impatient and critical so I

pointed out that anything could have happened: a client may still be there, he mayhave other calls to make first - anything; so let things evolve! Ian did.P.S. A couple of hours later the shop owner phoned.

    Jumping to conclusions.

It happens frequently that the moul jumps to conclusions about the actions of others

and attributes causes to these actions. The aware one observes this attribution andnegates it with something like, It could be anything! This is Spirit taking controland the Earthling responding.

    Sleep aid.

If Ians mind has been active on an unresolved, practical matter he sometimes finds itdifficult to fall asleep so I use this silent aid, I still this moul, and put this body tosleep. The mind immediately becomes still although I have, sometimes, to repeat the

affirmation a few times. On the other hand there are infrequent times when this doesnot work.

    The unhappy neighbour.

Ians neighbour is a hypochondriac with some illness and, consequently, is miserable.Whilst acting normally towards him Ian feels compassion for him and his

preoccupation with his health and, thereby, with the health of everyone. When Iansmind goes out to him and ments arise about the futility of helping him I say, Let it

be!', 'That is his business', he will sort it out in his own way and time', 'If he asks youmay help. singly or in multiples.

    The mind.

The mind is like a balloon in water; each time one tries to push it under it wrigglesout from under ones hand and rises to the surface. The only way to assume control isto puncture it and discard the residue.

    Ego centricity.

For many years Ian was often unemployed and virtually bankrupt but managed tovisit his nonagenarian mother, who lived about two and a half hours away, for aweekend every few months or so. His mother, on a small government pension, wouldtry to get him to accept $50 each time he visited but he felt that it was unfair to takeit. Consequently, offer and rejection used to go back and forth until one day, when hewas driving back home, I said to him,What right have you to deny someone the right

to the pleasure of giving? and, thereafter, he accepted his mothers gift in good spirit.

    I could have . . . . .

The moul often comes up with, I could have done. in regard to something. Unlessthis is about a clinical assessment for future reference and not a statement of regret itis positive but, if negative, I would say, Thats alright - let go!

Acceptance. As Ians body ages into the eighty year bracket changes occur to his ability do things. He and I are in frequent contact because there is little separating us so I constantlymurmur positive things to him with the result that he is very accepting and oftenamused by what life presents.

    Separation.

There is no separation between Spirit and Earthling, only a faulty connection untilunison.

    Moul recall.

I find that Ian often preempts my input by recourse to his moul where previousexperience dictates a positive course of menting or action.

    A waste of money?

As Ian goes about saving money for expensive dental work to save his last four teethon the lower jaw and the purchase of an electricity powered tricycle with the ancillarycosts thereof, his moul chirps about whether it is all worthwhile because, after all, he

  • 7/29/2019 Me & Ian or Spirit & Earthling [As at 08.09.13.]

    7/14

could be dead soon. The question, Is it worthwhile? then pops up but I chip in with,No waste, what needs to be done has to be done and, after all, it is only money. orSo what? You will then need neither money nor the items.

Patience. As Ian goes about saving as described in A waste of money. above various

possibilities in regard to the numerous things going on occur to him and, before thiscan become a problem of not living in the now, I whisper, Patience and thedisturbance dissolves.

    Not your problem!

A friend told Ian that someone, Kevin, could assemble Ians new electric tricycle on

its arrival came to the volunteer workshop every other Thursday; the workshop whereIans friend also worked and which started at ten oclock in the morning. A few dayslater Ian, having decided to get a quote from the man, asked Ians friend, NextThursday is the next workshop day, at what time will Kevin arrive? Ian wanted tosee Kevin before Kevin started work at ten. Ians friend answered, At ten oclock.and Ian said, matter of factly, That was not what I asked, I asked at what time hearrived there. and he replied, At about 9.45. but was annoyed with Ian for askingagain for the information Ian had wanted. His friend is always difficult tocommunicate with as he seems to shut down at times and also does not seem to pay

attention or grasp what is being said to him.Since this sort of lack of attention to communication is commonplace it tendsto annoy Ian though - very much less now than it used to - so every now and again hewould be reminded of this incident and I would say, That is his problem! and theannoyance would subside.

    The community recycle bin.

There are five units in the complex where Ian lives and they share garbage and

recycle bins. Ian now ignores all the items incorrectly put in the latter but gets a littleupset when selfishness by some results in the bin getting prematurely full becauseplastic bottles are not crushed. I say to him things like, You do the right thing andthat is all that matters. or It is not your fault. or You cannot help it. and he lets goat once.

    The promised quote.

As a pensioner it is advisable to collect information and figures relevant to the

purchase of something big like an electric tricycle, something Ian finds somewhatdifficult and at times confusing with his aging brain so, when the owner of a localcompany promised to give him, the next day, an estimate - Ian did not ask for a quote

  • 7/29/2019 Me & Ian or Spirit & Earthling [As at 08.09.13.]

    8/14

    - for making a cover for the tricycle and then failed to do so he mented a fewcriticisms of the person and, of course, regretted it straight away. I pointed out thatthe problem was hers not his and that he should let go; which he did.

Incorrect spoken English.Blatantly incorrect spoken English annoys Ian somewhat so I frequently have toremind him, Its alright; its not your problem.

    Choice of dentist.

About thirty years ago someone who had been a client of a particular, quality dentalpractice for a number of years developed an acute toothache at a time when he couldnot afford to go to a dentist but, finally, he just had to go. When he arrived at the

surgery he was told by the receptionist that a new dentist, just out of dental college, had joined their team and she asked whether he would like to see the new memberinstead of his usual dentist, a partner in the practice. In a flash the possibilities andoptions went through his moul and these ended with, If everyone opts, from fear, notto give a new dentist (or any professional) a chance these new ones will have a hardtime! and he answered the receptionist with, Certainly!

As he sat down in the dentists chair he mentioned casually that it was hismonths rent money he was using. The young dentist did not comment and did hiswork without causing any pain. When the patient went to the reception counter to

pay, the lady looked at the worksheet, then up at him, and said with a smile, There isno charge.

N.B. In the possibilities and options there was nothing subjective.

    Smiling at the prospects.

Ian has been feeling progressively weak in the last half year or so and since nickeland/or titanium poisoning from his stainless steel shoulder is a possibility - the others

being aging of the body and a system failure causing depletion of iron and vitamin B- he was this morning mentally scanning the possibilities and smiling at theprospects.

    Smiles.

Ians external or internal smiles are not governed by, or contingent upon, the state ofhis body.

    Fearless patience.

Whilst Ians bank is trying to finalise his already approved loan money is needed forhis electric tricycle, sundry expenses (he has already paid for it) and dental

  • 7/29/2019 Me & Ian or Spirit & Earthling [As at 08.09.13.]

    9/14

procedure, what to pay and when has become a complicated juggling act. I tell Ian,Nothing has happened yet. When something does happen - act. Until then nospeculation - rest easy!

If the body cannot do the job . . . .In random order of probability Ians muscular weakness is due to aging, bodyfunctions not producing things like vitamins and iron despite a suitable diet and

poisoning as a result of the leaching of heavy metals from the stainless steel shoulderimplant used in his shoulder replacement a little over a year ago.

In the case of the second above only Ian says, If the body cannot do the job sobe it; I will leave it if necessary - when it is time to go. In regard to the first and lastit would be, What will be will be and I happily accept!

    Deal with facts only.

Ians moul was wondering lazily about inconsequentials so I brought it back into lineby, Deal with facts; not emotions!

    Bank inefficiency.

The bank advised that its insurers had refused to insure the tricycle and that they had, therefore, been unable to release the loan funds. Ian accepted this with equanimity

but felt that the bank had been inefficient all along - loan negotiations started c.16th

July - by leaving too much of what they should have done for an octogenarian(almost) to do. He checked himself from being critical and otherwise negative mysaying to himself, But you are doing well; particularly considering the normal loss of

    brain function you experience.

    The loan hiatus.

Whilst the loan situation stumbles from pillar to post and Ians debt for the tricycle

and to his dentist increase he tried to obtain a credit card - an unsuccessful suggestionmade to him by his bank. Ian and I keep control of his emotions and reactions mainly

by remaining in the now and curtailing, thereby, all efforts of the moul to be negative. It is obvious that, whatever the result, the effort alone has been a creditableachievement.

    Life is continuous testing.

As is the experience with most Earthlings attempting to assemble something fromwritten instructions the job was taking many hours and a great deal of fiddling. Over

a period of three hours Ian was trying to complete one aspect of the assembly of histricycle - his EPT, for Electricity Powered Tricycle as it is called - and getting a littlefrustrated so I called out quietly, Testing! testing! with the desired effect.

    Local government.

Local government contractors are supposed to keep a narrow strip of land, abuttingmy rear fence, free of weeds but it is an uphill battle to get this properly

implemented. Ian started getting a little frustrated by this when he recently noticedthe weeds growing tall and I had to caution him with, Let it be - if it gets done, itgets done; if not, the weeds will grow! So what?

    Uncaring neighbours.

There is a 1.5m strip of land between three of our units and those recently built, butas yet unoccupied, on the block above us. Like most of the work done the plantingand maintenance of this strip has been careless and it is now a display of very healthy

weeds standing about 0.6m high and ready to flower and seed. Ian needed a reminderthat it was the responsibility of the owner/builders and the real estate agents, not his. This he accepted.

    Eye cataracts.

One of Ians difficulties with his assembly of his EPT is the adverse effect his eyecataracts have on his vision. This was one day followed by the need to change his

dogs bedding which is held in place on a frame by a complicated, but efficient, arrayof safety pins and ties. When he had completed this with considerable difficulty Iansmoul recalled a friend of his, who had just had his cataracts removed, enquiring as towhen Ian was going to get his done and Ian was about to carry on about the delays hewas having - it being up to the government whereas his friends was done privately -when I chipped in with, When the delay has served its purpose the operation willtake place.

Cooker rings. On the recommendations of an electrician I now turn on and keep at full the two ringsof my cooker I rarely use. Apparently, if this is not done, moisture gets inside themand they short circuit.Yesterday, when I glanced at the rings, moul came up with, Doing that costs youmoney! You do not have to do it for the Dept. of Housing. and I said, Yes you do, itis your responsibility.

Comment - general. In a busy life these conversations, or influences, between Spirit and Earthling may beinfrequent, or even non-existent, due to lifestyle demands, employment, family, and

  • 7/29/2019 Me & Ian or Spirit & Earthling [As at 08.09.13.]

    11/14

societal responsibilities whereas, in the life of a recluse, the opportunities are muchgreater and result in greater communication.

    The incorrect power lead.

Yesterday Ian discovered that a good quality, expensive, twenty metre power lead hehad purchased and whose packaging he had opened was a 15 ampere one whose plugdid not fit his 10 ampere domestic power points. We said, Ah, well, thats how it is!and carried on with life unperturbed.

    Many challenges.

Ian is not coping with the numerous challenges besetting him at the same time e.g.readying the EPT for use - something which continues to have difficulties, a constant

reminder that post-operative recovery of his right shoulder is problematic, overallmuscular weakness, worsening cataracts, twenty days of temporary chewingstrictures pending fitting of dental crowns and new lower denture, the protracted andcomplicated procedure undergone to get a loan for the EPT. These are adverselyaffecting his usual excellent efficiency in personal organization and the resultantstress often makes him irritable. However, he observes himself and often repeats, things like It will work out as necessary in the end! and Testing! Testing!

An apology.Yesterday, on Ians morning walk he, because of the problems he was having with hisshoulder and his fundamental dislike of foreign bodies being placed within his flesh, vented his feelings on a lady, accompanying a friend of his, who disagreed with hiscommentary on modern day medicine and doctors. This morning he again met thetwo ladies and immediately apologised to them for his outburst the previous day and,in particular, directed the apology to the lady who had disagreed with him. Bothaccepted unreservedly and the one who had disagreed with him said, We discussedwhat happened and agreed that what you said was correct.

    The moul in action.

This morning, Ian had left his EPT with a tyre service in town to get the tyreproblems attended to and, later, at home his moul started postulating about thevarious possibilities of this act - a quite pointless exercise particularly because itinvolved unwarranted criticism of staff at the tyre service!

I pointed out that people are often necessary for the staging of the experiencesour karma dictates and that their mentality in these situations is of no immediate

    concern of his.

    12/14

    Many challenges [contd.]

The firm due to make the bespoke cover for the EPT has, despite promises, failed tophone about when they will do require the EPT so as to do the job and a period ofrain is expected in a few days time. When the moul starts demanding negative actionI come in with, Its alright - leave it! and that Ian does.

    Cockroach and/or insect droppings.

After over seventeen years in this unit Ian has noticed insect droppings, fromminuscule to about .25mm in diameter in his under-sink cupboard with some fallinginto crockery etc. Determined not to use insect bombs or persistent insecticides andreluctant to use insecticide sprays because of their toxicity to his body Ian was wipingand/or rinsing items he took out for use. Meanwhile, moul was suggesting their use asthe most convenient remedy but failing to influence Ian.

    Decisions.

When an Earthling is making a decision adversely affecting others I say quietly,What would you decide if the result adversely affected you? Some hear and rethink, others hear and ignore me and the rest just do not hear.

    Human nature.

It is human nature to get fed up when constantly beset by difficulties, particularlywhen the onset is concentrated into a short time and follows a life of few suchdifficulties. This is when I step in to give encouragement with the main thrust of this

being the reminder that, in life, we only get the experiences we need and, where everpossible, it is best that we experience them now rather than later.

    Reducing an apparent problem.

When Ian was manager of a large rubber plantation he one day found his large desk

    space of about 1.6 m

    2

piled with pending work. His moul saw a mountain but he sawa challenge and immediately removed all the books and ledgers etc. to a table acrosshis office from his desk and then took, one job at a time, what books he needed andthe mountain was tackled like a mole hill.

The many challenges at present confronting Ian call for the same modusoperandi or state of mind and we said, One thing at a time - as that time on the

    plantation.

Brain function.Ian has, since fairly recently, been getting forgetful. Today, as often now happens, hestood in front of a cupboard wondering why he had come there and then waited for

  • 7/29/2019 Me & Ian or Spirit & Earthling [As at 08.09.13.]

    13/14

the recollection to surface. Without allowing his moul to even activate he said, Ahwell! Thats how it is :-)

    The EPT capsule.

Ian decided to purchase a weatherproof fabric capsule in which to house the EPTwhen it was not in use. He did a lot of investigation into the size and characteristicsof possible items and, despite being unable to be sure that one particular one wouldfit, he purchased it online. Moul then started the usual What if . . . . ? andPerhaps . . . etc. but Ian cut it short immediately with, Dont know, wait and see!

    Sense of humour.

This morning Ian telephoned the government housing department about a

maintenance matter and the lady taking his details was finding it difficult to graspsome of what he was saying. Although Ian is said to have a good clear speaking voicewith an international accent the lady commented by way of an excuse, You havean accent. to which Ians repartee was, You have an Australian accent. followed by,Perhaps it is my teeth - my denture! and both laughed. So, a sense of humour and nonegative feeling about admitting to having false teeth!

    Attachment to time.

From the days of his youth Ian was focussed on time; perhaps, partly to facilitate hisself organization - because he was always a highly organized person - and partly to be

punctual for the sake of efficiency as well as respect for others. However, in recenttimes, in retirement and reflecting on this trait of his, he concluded that he seemed tohave an attachment to time and that, non-attachment being a necessary and advancedstate of being, he should work on eliminating this attachment from his moul. He nowconsciously leaves his watch at home when it is not absolutely necessary for him tohave it on him; silences the moul when it presses for the old ways, does not watch thetime frequently and unnecessarily etc. - all with the desired effect. However, it

continues to be a work in progress.

    Thank you!

Ian was just composing a post in another blog and, having typed Cheating on your, was prompted that the inclusion of the word on was incorrect. He said Thankyou. deleted the on and continued whist appreciating from where the prompt came.

Interfering with the process. There are times when an Earthling has a good idea what is round the corner for himor her and moul chips in with, Interfere with the process to your advantage!.

  • 7/29/2019 Me & Ian or Spirit & Earthling [As at 08.09.13.]

    14/14

Immediately, Spirit will say, and be heard if the Earthling can hear, Take whatcomes! It is in your long term interests to do so! This is because, as some will bynow know well, what comes is what one needs.

Aging of the body. (1)Accepting with equanimity the effects of ageing on one is one thing but coping withthe interference this creates to ones customary efficiency in even little matters isanother. In the case of the latter the moul can, and does, react negatively to varyingdegrees and has to be checked. Often a smile, internal or external, suffices :-)

    Government elections.

In Australia national elections have just been completed and the fact that the

Conservatives, with there focus on the economy before people and their despicableself-interested behaviour during the last three years, have won upsets Ian somewhat

but this upset is but the ripples on a calm lake; a lake calm in the knowledge of thereality.
