Welcome to the march 2020 mag!

W elcome to the March edition of MDORC Talk. Well the weather has certainly put a dampener on things, but we needed the rain. I am fortunate that I took the chance and went out to Sundown National Park on the Australia Day long weekend. As I think about

it, after all the rain it would have been a different trip. Although it would have been good to see water in the creek crossings that we did.

As I have mentioned on several occasions the committee has been working through the changes in the constitu-tion. Last month we emailed the draft document out to everyone that has supplied an email address to the club for them to read and submit any changes they felt were needed and/ or ask any questions. The points raised in this process were taken to the last committee meeting for discussion. The committee has agreed to all the changes made to the constitution. They have worked very hard and shown great dedication to the club during this process.

Where to from here.

At the completion of the next general Meeting (April) we will have a Special General meeting to vote on the chang-es. Only financial members have the right to vote on this matter. If the resolution is passed, we then send it off to the Dept of Fair Trading for approval. So, in line with that, I hereby give notice that a Special general Meeting will be conducted on the 1st April 2020 after the completion of the normal General meeting, roughly about 8.30pm. The meeting will be held at the North Ser-vices Leagues Club on ANZAC Ave, Kallangur. During the next week the new constitution along with a Proxy voting form will be emailed out to everyone that has supplied the club with an email address. Proxy forms are only used for those that cannot make it to the meeting. If you can't make to the meeting please complete the Proxy form and email it back to the President for collation at the meeting. Forms will also be available at the March general meeting. If you are attending the Special General meet-ing a show of hands vote will be conducted.

Onto other matters, the club is going to hold a Trip Leaders info night in the coming weeks. This is to give members of the club that are not quite sure on what is involved in being a Trip Leader what to do. If you are interested, please let the Trip Coordinator know or put your name down on the trip sheet at the meeting. If you can organise a family holiday you have the skills to be a trip leader. Remember no trip leaders, no trips. Keep your ears open for news about the Fraser Island Clean Up that is fast approaching. They are usually pretty good trips and cheaper than normal with discounted ferry and camping fees. Lastly, myself and the club do not have any issues with members organising trip/ events with other clubs/ organisa-tions. I feel that it is better that the committee is approached first informing us of the intention, rather than after the plans have already been made.

Get dirty and have fun. From the bush to the shore

Eddie Carleton -President, Moreton Districts Off Road Club

CONVOY PROCEDURES Start – At the commencement of the trip, the Trip Leader shall arrange convoy order and nominate a vehicle to be last in the convoy (Tail End Charlie). A vehicle shall stay in the convoy order unless directed otherwise by the Trip Leader. Communication – Convoy communication shall be by the designated UHF Radio channel selected. The Moreton Bay Districts Off Road Club’s chosen channel is 27 UHF. If you are unable to make radio contact, flash your headlights onto the vehicle ahead. This is a signal for the rest of the convoy to stop. Keep unnecessary chatter on the radio to a minimum when navigating difficult areas. If in any doubt of the best / safest way to proceed through hazards / obstacles, ask the Trip Leader or more experi-enced driver for advice. Remember you probably won’t be the only one experiencing difficulty. Acknowledge all radio calls from the Trip Leader. Travelling – Keep the vehicle behind you in view at all times and at any decision point (corner, deviation, obstacle):

Wait for the following vehicle

Indicate where to go (use indicators if appropriate)

When acknowledgement is received, then proceed

Drive at your COMFORTABLE and SAFE speed. Generally keep 4-6 vehicle lengths distance between vehicles and keep the convoy moving. On steep inclines / obstacles:

Proceed one vehicle at a time On very steep or difficult terrain:

Call the next vehicle through when you are clear

All gates are to be left as they were found. The Trip Leader is responsible to ensure that the last vehicle knows to leave the gate open or closed. All vehicles must have headlights switched on while in convoy. Vehicles should not leave the convoy other than in exceptional circumstances and before doing so must obtain ap-proval from the Trip Leader. Remember you are responsible for the vehicle behind you! Code of Ethics – At all times abide by road rules and regulations and drive in a manner consistent with the Four Wheel Driver’s Code of Ethics.
