CARBON … an enormously important scientific element.

The burning of CARBON produces carbon dioxide, a colorless gas that changes the heat transfer properties of the atmosphere.

The chemical formula for carbon dioxide is CO2

CO2 is a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) … an important causal factor in global warming.

CH4 is the chemical formula for methane

METHANE is a far more potent greenhouse gas (GHG) than CO2 by a factor of more than twenty.

Least cost power generation in money profit terms results in worst behavior relative to environment.

When carbon emissions are costed using a standard impact metric … the calculation will be different.


1 metric ton of CO2 = 1 EDU

1 metric ton of CH4 = 27 EDUs

* EDU is an Environmental Degradation Unit


At the moment we do not know the exchange rate that will apply between a unit of money value such as the US dollar and the EDU

This is not important at this stage. The first step is to have a single measure that works for all aspects of environmental degradation.


Moving forward … Request for collaborationMoney is part of a complex socio-enviro-economic system. While it works … it does not work as well as it should, nor as well as it could. The work of MDIA is to enable this complex system to work better.
