Journal. Observation period. After each session (class or tutorials), write in your journal a reflection that addresses the following questions: What knowledge, skills and/or dispositions are needed to help a student learn? What are you learning about what it means to be a teacher? Class 1: Teacher provides to the students the possibility to work in pairs and prepare their oral activity. This means that they can reduce their affective filter at the moment of speaking activities. Teacher needs to monitor every single moment to the students because they can have questions, they did not understand the instructions or they are not doing anything. I can see that students’ interests are different, however they made groups when they have to work. The difference in the level of English between them is huge, even if the content is elementary and a communicative approach program they should work with easier activities, where they can build their knowledge and find the motivation in this language. Class 2: Teacher gives instructions in Spanish, so everything is clear. The use of mother tongue in the classroom is allowed when we want to clarify important things. Students need to work in activities related to physical descriptions. Teacher uses “post it” in one activity that called my attention, where students should describe themselves and then “post” in the wall the information. Students can read the descriptions and find out who is describing the little paper. Teacher tries to change the way of the activities and give to the students the chance to participate actively, in this way they feel part of the class. Teacher uses worksheets and different resources to do the activities in the class.

Journal.

Observation period.

After each session (class or tutorials), write in your journal a reflection that addresses the following questions:

What knowledge, skills and/or dispositions are needed to help a student learn? What are you learning about what it means to be a teacher?

Class 1:

Teacher provides to the students the possibility to work in pairs and prepare their oral activity.

Class 2:

Teacher gives instructions in Spanish, so everything is clear.

Class 3:

Teacher should teach in another way, where students can feel motivation in the class. I know that is hard when they belonging to different areas, however they should show a little bit of interest in this course.

Class 4:

The variety of activities I think that is not enough for the students, they pay attention like 15 minutes for each part of the class, so the teacher should use activities where students need to move a lot.

Class 5:

Some students are interested in learning, but they get distracted with their classmates. It is useful when students can sit around the classroom or in groups, but sometimes they need to change the

person who is sitting next to them and share new information with other. Also I think that is not a good idea having two different groups in the classroom in one module, because as I said before, contexts, motivation and interests are totally different.

In the future I will need to pay attention to every single detail and characteristics that my students provide me, in order to improve my teaching management. Also if I have in mind some features that they have in common I can create different activities and teach contents that are meaningful for them.

Refer to CCQs, classroom management, instructions and use of whiteboard.

The use of the CCQs was acceptable, however when I wrote in the whiteboard my voice was lost. I know that I have problems with the volume and the intonations, so I have to pay attention how t project my voice in order to be understandable all the time.

Based on the implementation of your plan or your interactions with the students, what do you think you need to improve, do differently or maintain for the next session?

I need to improve in how I give instructions, I am always saying a lot of things and they get lost. Also I need to repeat to the students by drilling the new vocabulary, and not make a review just at the end of the lesson because is not going to work. They have to be always focus on the language and the lesser information that I give is the best, because they can understand and produce in the language.
