Dear Student,
You are aware that the students of M.Com programme are required to submit a
Project Report / Case Study at the end of the second year. The project work carrying 50
marks (30 marks for Project Report / Case Study & 20 marks for viva-voce) is a very
important constituent of the M.Com programme.
In order to select a topic for Project Report / Case Study and complete it in
stipulated period of time, one has to start from the beginning of second year and plan
systematically the activities leading to completion of Project Report / Case Study.
However, for proper understanding of the problem taken up and following a systematic
research process, it is necessary to have proper guidance. I would, therefore like to
request you to consult guide about the topic that you want to take up for research.
I am enclosing herewith a note, which will help you to complete and submit the
Project Report / Case Study. Please go through the note carefully and prepare your
Project Report / Case Study on the lines given.

Guidelines for Project Work / Case Study
Project Report / Case Studyare an important constituent of the M.Com programme.The following guidelines will help you to clarify many procedural aspects regarding
project completion. A student can take up Project work only after admission into the
second year of the M.Com programme.
ObjectiveThe objective of the project component of the M.Com programme is to help the
student develop the ability to apply multidisciplinary concepts, tools and techniques tosolve organisational problems.
PROJECT REPORT / CASE STUDY
The Project Report / Case Studyshould clearly state the objectives, hypotheses and research
methodology of the project undertaken. It should give full details of the sampling
procedures, instruments to used, limitations if any, etc.
Note: Students are advised to select as their supervi sors those who are acti ve
professionals in areas relevant to the selected topic. For example, if the
topic is in the area of f inance, the supervisor should be a speciali st in
F inance possessing M .Com / MBA in F inance quali fi cation or a Chartered
Accountant and so on.
At any given point of time a supervisor may give guidance to a maximum
of ten students.
PROJECT REPORT / CASE STUDY
Formulation
(a) The length of the Project Report / Case Study may be about 30 to 50 double
spaced typed pages, generally not exceeding 5,000 words (excluding
appendices and exhibits). However 10 percent variation on either side ispermissible.
(b) Each project report must adequately explain the research methodology adopted
and the directions for future research.(c) The project report should also contain the following:
(i) The name of the supervisor with his / her signature.
(ii) Certificate indicating originality of the work done. (Please see the
'important notes' given below)
(iii) Certificate from the organisation from which the information is obtained.

Submission of Project Report / Case Study
Two-typed hard bound copies of the Project Report / Case Studyare to be submittedat your study centers. The study centres must evaluate the same and retain the report
with itself for record.
Two typed hard bound (black with golden embossing) copies and two 2 Sets of Soft
copyCD of the project report
Important notes for submitting the Project Report / Case Study
1 Submit two hard bound copies of the Project Report / Case Study.
2 The Project Report / Case Study yourshould include the following titles
(a) Introduction
(b) Rationale: Importance and Significance of the Study
(c) Objectives(d) Hypotheses
(e) Research Methodology
(f) Data analysis and interpretation
(g) Findings, Conclusions and Suggestions
4 The Project Report / Case Studyshould be submitted in A-4 size, (29 x 20
cm) typed in double space, in a bound volume.
5 Before binding the Project Report the student should ensure that it
contains: Originality Certificate.
[Candidates should submit a statement, certifying that the work is an
original one and has not been submitted earlier either to this University orto any other Institution for fulfillment of the requirement of a course of
study. The above certificate should be countersigned by the Project
Supervisor.]
6 The students should keep a copy of the Project Report / Case Studywiththem. The Project Report / Case Study submitted to the Study Center will not
be returned to the student.
