Take a Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Instead of picking out your Halloween pumpkin from the grocery store, take a family trip to the pumpkin patch. Take a wagon ride to the pumpkin field. Make a game of finding the largest or smallest pumpkin in the field. Allow your child to pick out the pumpkin of their choice. Continue the fun at home by carving your pumpkins or painting them for the holiday. Visit an Apple Orchard

Play in the Leaves

This activity can be productive and fun. Give your kids rakes and race to see who can make the biggest leaf pile in the back yard. Combine the piles and let your kids run through it, jump into it, or toss the leaves in the air. For an indoor ac-tivity, use the leaves to do an art project like crayon rubbings or col-

Autumn is the season items at the store start to change. Pool supply stands are re-placed with Christmas trees, and summer fruits and vegetables are changed with hearty fall fare.

Autumn food can be just as delicious as summer food if planned correctly. Salads can still be made, but instead of cold fillings try a tossed salad with a warm meat and dress-ing. Served with warm toast-ed baguettes and butter.

Want a simple dessert? Bake a warm crumble with winter berries. They make a great addition to any meal and taste wonderful.

Here’s a quick recipe for a fruit crumble: Warm up the fruit in a pan or microwave until they are soft. Then, add two tablespoons of sugar and gently heat again them up again. Make the crumble with a pre-made mix by following the instructions on the pack-age. Then pour the fruit and crumble into a pan, place in the oven and bake until gold-en brown. Enjoy with ice-

cream or whipped cream.

Another popular autumn meal is a hot casserole served with fresh vegetables and dumplings. A slow cooker is an ideal way to cook and pre-pare a casserole.

Choose vegetables that give off a lovely flavor when slow-ly simmered such as onions, carrots, celery, turnips and many more. Add the vegeta-bles and a meat of your choice to the slow cooker. Cover the ingredients with water (or broth for added fla-vor). Cover the slow cooker with the lid, set it and low. After around 4 hours the meal is cooked beautifully and ready to add the dump-lings. Serve hot.

Autumn is well known for hearty stews, casseroles, soups, broths and warmer dishes to fight off the win-tery chill. Look in your favor-ite cookbooks at home or fol-low your favorite chefs online for new and interesting au-tumn recipes to enjoy with your family.
