FAMOUS WORDS

Interesting Facts

You Never Knew

“If opportunity doesn't knock,

build a door. ”

Milton Berle

Did you know . . . there is no such thing as a naturally

blue food?

Did you know . . . elephants

are the only mammal that

can't jump?

Did you know . . . Mars ap-

pears red because it's cov-ered in rust?

Did you know . . . Porsche also builds tractors?

Does it feel as if summer flew by in the

blink of an eye? Are you like the many

people who LOVE summertime, but

usually procrastinate enjoying it?

"I meant to go to the beach ... "

"I wanted to gather the whole gang to-

gether for a cook-out ..."

"I was going to plant a garden ..."

"............. but now it's too late!"

Summer is quickly ending, and even

though we officially celebrate the start

of the New Year on January 1, we ALL

know that the New Year really begins in

September. That's when—as a child—

you started a new school year with an

empty desk, a clean locker, a new book

bag and, most important of all, a brand

new box of pencils.

Here are some quick ideas for squeezing

in a little last minute summer fun before

autumn hits, school starts and everyone

shifts gears to renew work goals for the

New Year.

17 Ways You Can Squeeze In Some

Last Minute Summer Fun

1. Get the date and location of a Festi-

val, Carnival, Rodeo or Renaissance

Faire that you've wanted to attend. Take

the day off to go and enjoy yourself.

2. Rediscover a book you loved as a

child and make it part of your summer

reading.

3. Take a nap in a hammock.

4. Has it been ages since you've golfed,

fished or sailed? Call a friend and plan

to an outing.

5. Go to the beach.

6. Schedule a cookout or picnic, and

invite the gang.

7. Sing Campfire songs, toast marshmal-

lows and make S'mores.

8. Watch a sunrise, sunset, or enjoy an

evening stargazing.

9. Make a favorite summer beverage

from your childhood: Lemonade,

Kool-Aid, or Root Beer Floats!

10. Let yourself get lost in a book, mag-

azine or comic book that you usually

don’t have time to read.

11. Buy a volleyball or croquet set for

your backyard and invite some friends

over to play.

12. Eat some watermelon and spit the

seeds as far as you can.

13. Watch clouds go by or watch ants

scurry carrying crumbs back and forth.

14. Gather a few friends and spend an

afternoon playing your favorite child-

hood games. You could play marbles,

hopscotch, Double Dutch, Kick the Can,

stick ball, even fly kites or remote air-

planes.

15. Go for a walk in your neighborhood

and enjoy the August weather.

16. Camp out in the backyard and sleep

under the stars.

17. Go to a favorite summer spot from

your past, or go with an older family

member or friend to one of their favorite

summer spots.

If you're still stumped, ask your friends

and family what they enjoy during the

summertime, then plan to do that togeth-

er. That way, you can head into autumn

with happy summertime memories.
