Happy Adopters Finding Lifelong Homes
To the friends, benefactors and members of the McCracken County Humane Society,
I am happy to report that the affairs of this Humane Society, at this !me, are going very
well. I aribute that to a combina!on of things: the steady, on site, day by day management by
the Execu!ve Director, Terry Vannerson, the beginning of the contract with McCracken County
and your steady financial and in kind support. I especially wish to commend the employees and
volunteers for their excellent work.
A new member, Betsy Pickens, has been added to the Board of Directors. Betsy is a re-
!red school teacher and has been a volunteer at the Humane Society. This brings the number
of board members to eight.
Dr. Russell Jones has been providing in-house veterinary services for the past three
months. This is a wonderful addi!on for the proper caring of the animals that are received at
the Humane Society.

2016 is already exceeding my wildest dreams - and you know I dream big! So much has happened in the last 6 months with our completion of the new Intake Facility and the Service Contract with the county. Winter was cold and dreary for all the dogs and cats, yet adoptions were consistent. Our daily visitors have tripled and we are so glad to see such an interest in adoptions. In January, we hired Dr. Russell B. Jones and opened our clinic. He works regularly overseeing the health and welfare of our animals, as well as doing all of our in-house surgeries and working with two vet techs. We now are able to spay and neuter more animals each week, which makes the length of stay shorter and dogs and cats are available for adoption quicker. Many, many challenges and changes have taken place, and my staff has delivered a stellar performance throughout this journey. I am so, so proud of the strides the Humane Society has made.
To our incredible volunteers– We’d be nowhere without you! You donate your time, talent, treasures, wisdom –whatever is needed… Let us recognize you for the often difficult, always emotional work you do for the animals. Because of your dedicated service, we are able to place many more animals in lifelong homes.

Springtime Safety Tips Easter Treats and Decora4ons
Keep lilies and candy in check—chocolate goodies are toxic to cats and dogs, and all true
lilies can be fatal if ingested by cats. And be mindful, ki6es love to nibble on colorful
plas!c grass, which can lead to an obstructed diges!ve tract, severe vomi!ng and
dehydra!on.
Let Your Garden Grow—With Care
Pet parents, take care—fer!lizers, insec!cides and herbicides keep our plants and lawns
healthy and green, but their ingredients may be dangerous if your pet ingests them.
Always store these products in out-of-the-way places and follow label instruc!ons
carefully. Many popular spring!me plants—including rhododendron and azaleas—are
also highly toxic to pets and can prove fatal if eaten.
Ah-Ah-Achoo!
Like us, pets can be allergic to foods, dust, plants and pollens. Allergic reac!ons in dogs
and cats can cause itching, minor sniffling and sneezing, or life-threatening anaphylac!c
shock to insect bites and s!ngs. If you suspect your pet has a spring!me allergy, please
visit your veterinarian as soon as possible.
Pesky Li=le Cri=ers
April showers bring May flowers—and an onslaught of bugs! Make sure your pet is on
year-round heartworm preven!ve medica!on, as well as a flea and !ck control program.
Ask your doctor to recommend a plan designed specifically for your pet.
Out and About
Warmer weather means more trips to the park, longer walks and more chances for your
pet to wander off! Make sure your dog or cat has a microchip for iden!fica!on and
wears a tag imprinted with your home address, cell phone and any other relevant
contact informa!on.
