McGill Chem-E Car was founded in 2013. Since then, the team has substantially grown from 13 to 81 active members. e design team is home to students from diverse backgrounds and vary-ing academic disciplines who share a passionate interest in promoting alternative resources. We are the only gender balanced design team at McGill University.

ST PLACE Current World Champions.

GENDER BALANCED Equal share of male and female students.

NATIONALITIES Team members with diverse backgrounds.

DEPARTMENTS Students from various disciplines.

SUBTEAMS Division of project into specialized units.

Stopping Mechanism e subteam ensures that the car reaches a full stop when desired due to a mechanism triggered by a chemi-e subteam ensures that the car reaches a full stop when desired due to a mechanism triggered by a chemi-cal reaction. To do so, a chemical reaction and a sensor are designed in such a way that when the reaction reaches completion, the sensor can trigger the car to stop. e stopping mechanism will be working with a re-action called "Cinnamaldehyde Clock Reaction", where a clear orange cinnamaldehyde solution reacts with acetone to form a yellow precipitate under basic conditions.

Power Source

We are required to safely optimize the voltage output and amperage of a given chemical reaction for our car. is year we have looked into designing a thermoelectric generator due to its potential in harnessing the wasted energy that is lost in automotive exhaust and industrial processes. e purpose is to convert a large temperature gradient into electrical energy through a phenomenon known as the Seebeck effect.

In addition, they are in charge of ordering parts such as motors, shafts, bearings and getting others custom made using manufacturing processes such as 3D printing and laser cutting. Finally, they must assemble the car and ensure it's functioning properly.

Electrical and Software

OUR DESIGN

Our team competed in the Northeast Regional competition at MIT and Northeastern Universi-ty in March 2015, placed second overall, thus qualifying for the National Competition in Salt Lake City. On November 2015, we surpassed expectations and rose to victory. We triumphed over countless universities to claim the World Championship title.

We are currently in the developing phase new car that is assured to compete in March 2017. Our new team is devoted and motivated to excel at all aspects of our project. We aspire to con-tinue our procient work and attain First Place.

WHAT WE ACHIEVED

McGill Chem-E Car is committed to promoting science, technology and engineering in the McGill Chem-E Car is committed to promoting science, technology and engineering in the Montreal community. We reach out to local schools through open house and inform them about the sciences and engineering elds. Chem-E Car joins NSBE (National Society for Black Engineers) to promote post-secondary education through the Walk For Education event. We visit local schools and teach children about some of the basic concepts that engi-neers work with every day.

We culture an environment for comradery and teamwork through the use of social events. We culture an environment for comradery and teamwork through the use of social events. McGill Chem-E Car also works with other McGill student organizations like POWE (Pro-moting Opportunities for Women in Engineering) and NSBE to help contribute to gender and racial diversity in engineering.
