McDonald Elementary Home and School Association October 6 th , 2014 Meeting Minutes Meeting was called to order by President, Kathy Wilson Silent Reading of Minutes from last meeting. COMMITTEE REPORTS:

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS: Gretchen Lorenz, Committee Chair Current after-school offerings are:

Engineering for Kids, younger class canceled due to low enrollment, classes will be merged

Overtime Athletics, starting in October Theatre Horizon – Drama Club grades 3-5, now registering,

starting in December Young Rembrandts - ongoing

Suggestions were made – Crazy 8 Math (Dena Criss) and a Spanish Language Program (will get information from Davis on the program they use).

DECORATING: Vicki Chubb, Committee Chair No ReportFall decorations look great!

FAMILY DINNER NIGHTS: Dena Criss, Committee Chair Chik-fil-A night is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15th from 5-8. Volunteers needed – contact Dena Criss for details. Additional nights will be in December and April.

FAMILY PICNIC: Harry and Stephanie Leach, Committee Chairs

Suggestion made for a spring family picnic. FATHER/DAUGHTER EVENT: Jeanette De-Mito, Committee

ChairEvent is scheduled for February 20th, 2015, snow date is February 27th.

FIFTH GRADE: Sandra Haney, Committee Chair There will be a 5th grade committee meeting on October 16th at 7pm in the library. Joe Corbi Pizza & Cookie order forms will be distributed on October 8th and the sale will end on October 22nd. Delivery is scheduled for November 13th. Volunteers needed to process and distribute orders.

HOLIDAY GIFT SHOP: Kim Malpezzi, Committee Chair34 Volunteers thus far

HOMEROOM PARENTS: Tami Kowalski, Committee ChairOctober 8th is the deadline to volunteer as a room parent. You must be a member of the H&S. Clearances may be required for trips and are held at the Administration Building.

HOSPITALITY: Marianne Kruce, Committee Chair No ReportKIDSTUFF BOOKS: Dawn Silberman, Committee Chair KidStuff books have brought in $6449 thus far (1/2 is profit)

LIBRARY: Dawn Silberman, Committee ChairVolunteers needed. Please be careful with books, liquid spillage has ruined several books.

MAY FAIR: Position has been filled. Megan Holt, Elizabeth Small and Krista DiPaolo will be Committee Co-Chairs for 2014-15. This will be the 25th Anniversary.

MEMBERSHIP: Colleen McCandless and Jennifer Trotter, Committee Co-ChairsMembership drive is now closed. Thus far we have 204 families and 55 staff members who have joined H&S.

MOTHER/SON EVENT: Dana Kasner and Colleen Gedraitis, Committee Co-ChairsEvent is scheduled for Sunday, March 22nd and will be held on the New Hope-Ivyland Railroad. This is a private event for McDonald families. Cost will be $12 per person and will include a private round-trip train ride, a photograph and parking. Food will not be served. Flyer will be sent home in January. Waiting on district to approve the contract.

NEWSLETTER: Tony Sadowski, Committee Chair Deadline for November issue is 10/10. Contact Tony Sadowski with any requests.

RECESS/PLAYGROUND: Colleen Aurelia, Committee Chair Pinnies have been requested and will be purchased per teacher specifications.

SCHOOL SIGN: Megan Holt, Committee Chair Vote was held in September in favor of updating the existing sign with new school colors and logo. Awaiting new design sketches.

SCHOOL STORE: Sandra Haney, Committee ChairSchool Store is open and the kids LOVE it! Sizzling Summer Reading embossed coupons will be distributed. Store hours are T/TH 8:20-8:40am.

SPIRIT WEAR: Tami Kowalski, Committee ChairSpirit wear fall drive will begin October 1st. Staff has requested the following items to be available for staff purchase: Long Sleeve Shirts Zip Hooded SweatshirtsRequest for H&S Volunteer Shirt

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE: Kim Malpezzi, Committee ChairNo report.

Thirty-One Bingo: Kylee Kline-Reardon and Jessica Oeste, Committee Co-ChairsEvent is October 17th – this is a dry event, No Alcohol Permitted per district policy. Coolers will not be permitted. Light refreshments will be served. Anyone who brings a dish to share will receive raffle tickets. Each Bingo Card is a chance to win a bundle worth over $100. Dabbers will be available for purchase. At the time of this meeting several dozen tickets had been ordered in the pre-sale (ends 10/10). Outreach methods include facebook, e-alerts, sign on Street Road. Shuttle has been scheduled and a food signup will be setup for food and volunteers.

WALK-A-THON: Dena Criss, Committee ChairEvent date will be April 9th, 2015 and kick-off assembly will be on March 4th. Planning begins in November, will send a Committee Forming e-alert.Teachers will receive 20% of profits. Last year we raised $14,873.73.

YEARBOOK: Vicki Chubb and Jessi Rich, Committee Co-ChairsFollowing a discussion on cost, distribution and design a vote was held in favor of continuing to use Memory Books.

TRASH TO CASH COMMITTEE REPORTS:

BOXTOPS: Lisa Higgins, Committee Co-Chair Boxtops will be collected in November.

CAMPBELLS LABELS: Danielle Huck, Committee ChairCollection container is in the office.

TARGET: Colleen Aurelia, Committee ChairTarget Take Charge of Education Program offers 1% kickback on purchase made with a Target Visa or Target Debit. Will distribute applications via Wed Exp. To date we have earned $49.

GIANT: Colleen Aurelia, Committee ChairIn 2013-2014 we had 145 participants. At the time of the meeting we have 599 registered card #’s. Highest contributors will appear on the morning news.

SHOP RITE: Maureen Cataldi, Committee ChairEarned $120

PRINCIPAL’S & VICE PRINCIPAL'S REPORT: See Attached Report

TEACHER’S REPORT: H&S has challenged the teachers to a game of crab soccer. Reading Olympics will be held on Thursday, April 10th.

NEW BUSINESS: Vote

K Loro (art teacher) requested monies to purchase tactile art supplies for the special education students. Vote YES

OPEN FORUM FOR GENERAL MEMBERSHIP Coyote cutouts are working to decrease the goose poop
