Steve Jobs captured the audience’s attention just like he did mine by sharing not only his passions and dreams, but also some of his fears.

”The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs

Stay Hungry. Stay foolish.

Jobs was able to maintain his audience’s attention by using personal stories that were relevant and inspiring.

Dynamism = Energy

I rate Steve Jobs speech at a 4.5.

He was passionate, enthusiastic, and had great stage presence.

Why 4.5 & not 5???

The one thing I did notice, was that he often looked down at his notes. He could have made more eye contact with the audience.

Learning from the best

I have learned that you not only need to be prepared and well rehearsed when giving a speech, but you also need to be passionate in what you are speaking about.

Page 9: McCrearyMelissa_PublicSpeaking_1212

Sir Ken Robinson captured the audience’s attention by speaking clearly and by having a passion for the topic he was speaking on.

Sir Ken Robinson

Page 10: McCrearyMelissa_PublicSpeaking_1212

Thesis:

He speaks about the link between 3 troubling trends: rising drop-out rates, schools' dwindling stake in the arts, and ADHD

How do we square that circle???

Robinson was able to maintain his audience’s attention by challenging traditional thinking on education.

Dynamism = Energy

I rate Sir Ken Robinson’s speech at a 4.0.

He was interesting, creative , and very knowledgeable about this topic.

Why 4.0 & not 5???

His speech was hard to judge because I couldn’t actually see him speak. All I had to judge him off of was his voice. Which was very clear and powerful.

I learned to challenge the way I think about the public education system.

I also learned to get creative with my presentations. I loved the dry erase board telling his story.

Learning to think.

Experts

A few things from Garr Reynolds. Reynolds recommended to keep the presentation simple and to limit the use of bullets. Also to always use high quality graphics and don’t use clip art.

Sharing Tips

My advice to my classmates is to practice, practice, practice. Try not to look down at your notes the entire time. Instead try to use your notes as a quick reference. Always be creative when presenting a speech.

ALWAYS remember to Stay Hungry. Stay foolish.

And in the words of the late Steve Jobs…
