ELECTIVE DETAILS
The Music and Creative Arts Conference (MCAC) is an initiative of the Creative Arts Department of The Salvation Army. It will be a time of instruction, inspiration and resourcing for those who participate in music and the creative arts. These electives will be presented on Saturday. REGISTRATION – 9:45AM -‐ Refreshments available on arrival SESSION 1 -‐ 10:15AM -‐ A Call to Worship A time for all delegates to commence the day in worship lead by William Himes SESSION 2 – 10:45 – 11.50AM Conference Choir Part 1 [William Himes] Enjoy the experience of making great music lead by our special guest. Our MCAC Choir will be featured in our evening concert. Creative Re-‐tellings of Bible Stories [Cameron Semmens] Come and see what it takes to find fresh words and fresh perspectives on classic stories and parables... and then, lets write some! Just Brass [John Collinson] Just Brass is an exciting Music Outreach Program, which is being used effectively in corps all across the territory. John Collinson (Territorial Just Brass Consultant) will highlight successes of the program across the territory and give an insight into Just Brass – an exciting new program for mission and ministry. Leading Worship [Judd Field] Judd Field will share his thoughts on the role of the Worship Leader and how skills can be developed in this area. Sound Production For Your Team [Ash Doughty] The importance of those who look after the sound in our services is vital. Ash is experienced in all facets of sound production and will provide valuable information to assist those who carry this responsibility in their corps. SESSION 3 – 12:00 – 1.10PM Being Open To God In The Arts [Cameron Semmens] Come and discover those things that ENABLE your faith and your art, and the things that DISABLE them. You'll walk away with some really practical things to GIVE LIFE to your creativity and your spirituality. Brass Band Workshop [William Himes] Bill will work with the South Barwon Band to give an insight into his music. A valuable workshop for conductors and players alike. Brass players are all welcome to join the band. Building Dynamics Of Your Worship Band [Judd Field] Establishing the role of each member and building the group dynamics between each member are important aspects of developing a good ensemble. Judd will work with a Worship Band to highlight important aspects of ensemble playing needed in preparing worship songs for performance and corporate worship. Drama [Craig Farrell] Do you have a flare for the dramatic? Ever wanted to tell a great story? Craig will take a look at how drama can be used effectively to communicate and engage with our congregation. Come for the fun... stay for the story.
Live Streaming [Tim Kelly] Tim Kelly will discuss all you need to know about live streaming and archiving services, concerts and conferences. A very valuable session for those considering using this as a tool for communication connecting via the web. Sound Production [Ash Doughty] Ash will work at the desk mixing the sound for the Worship Band Workshop. Learn some practical skills for mixing the sound for the Worship Band at your Corps.
Lunch – 1:15 -‐ Creative Arts Department Resources Display will be open. KEYNOTE – 2:00pm [William Himes] SESSION 4 – 2:30 – 3.40PM Creating New Songs [Judd Field] Judd Field will work with a Worship Band to develop ideas in this workshop to assist you in writing new songs for worship. Media and the Church [David Cairns and Jacob Dyer] By popular demand, David and Jacob will once again present this session, which gives an insight into why media is such an effective creative tool in today’s church. They will share media resources available today, and how to best use media in services and small groups. Music Resources Library [Dianne Edwards] Dianne Edwards – (Music Resources Library Consultant) will give details of the service she provides managing the Territorial Music Resources Library New Publications – Brass and Vocal [Brian Hogg] Brian Hogg will introduce the latest brass and vocal publications from the Creative Arts Department. Everyone welcome to participate – bring your instrument. Running a Successful Kids Choir In Your Corps [Cathy Christelow and Melissa Grigsbey] Two passionate mums stepped up to start a Choir at Preston Corps because they saw a need. They don’t see themselves as particularly "qualified" but are successfully running a fantastic choir. Come and hear how. Afternoon Tea – 3:45pm Creative Arts Department Resources Display will be open. SESSION 5 – 4:15 – 5.25PM Conference Choir Part 2 [William Himes] Bill will rehearse choir repertoire for the MCAC Concert. Everyone is welcome to participate The Importance Of Copyright [Wayne Collyer] Wayne will provide valuable information on what licenses are needed, what they cover and where to go for help. Music Tools For Mission – Panel Discussion Merryn Steel -‐ Community Choir, Stuart Lees -‐ Music Access Program, Gill Summerton -‐ Mainly Music, Lisa Wynne -‐ Just Brass, Cathy Christelow -‐ Preston Youth and Children’s Choir Music continues to be a tool to connect with people in the community. Come and hear how people are successfully reaching out to others through programs in music. Pens of Fire [Cameron Semmens] This will be a great workshop for those of you who write poetry or song lyrics, or if these are things you aspire to do -‐ and to do them well! We’ll look at how to make an average poem a great poem; how to say things with simplicity, power and beauty; and how to create poems and lyrics people want to listen to again and again! Dinner – 5.30pm FINALE CONCERT – 7.00 – 8.30PM Featuring: William Himes Cameron Semmens Judd Field and the Melbourne Gospel Choir Preston Youth and Children’s Choir South Barwon Band MCAC Choir
