Beach Breakers or blow outs? Mapping digital residency and understandings of effective online spaces
“Beach break: a wave that breaks over a sandy beach, best suited for learning to surf.”
“Blown out: unridable, due to the wind's blowing so hard that the surf is chopped up.”

“Effective online engagement is particularly relevant to health care professionals, who are bound by professional codes of ethics. The increasing use of social media for professional and public engagement requires them to develop understanding of the interactions between professional and personal spaces.”

Findings and Future Work • Demarcation and balance between
personal/professional/institutional spaces.• Prevalence of entertainment/utility “apps” in personal
visitor spaces (particularly in 1st year students) – things that make life easier – why are these missing in our institutional spaces?
• Further exploration of the boundary spaces e.g. Youtube, Facebook.
• Activity design – where, when and should we bring boundary spaces into learning designs?
• Staff engagement and work with other schools.
