We're halfway there, just acouple more months unti lspring starts to bring theKansas City car culture out ofhibernation. The Winter Galaheld on January 9th at Ya-Ya'sEuro Bistro in Overland Parkwas a big success and helpeda lot of us quell the cabinfever that the cold, ice, snow and city salt trucks infl icts on us,even if it was just one evening. I t was good to see famil iar faces,not-so-famil iar faces, and to present some much-deservedrecognition to the Kansas City Section members.

We were honored to have MBCA National President Terry Kiwalajoin us for the evening and he had some very flattering things tosay about our section and some encouraging things to say aboutthe days ahead in 201 6. The 60th anniversary of MBCA wil l bethe keynote theme for the year, and there are national activities inthe works to properly commemorate this milestone year. RichCarlson demonstrated his usual ski l ls as MC to present theawards to the class winners from the Oktoberfest car show in201 5, which saw a record number, fifty Mercedes-Benz vehicleson display. I had the distinct pleasure and honor to present JoeWeinrich with the Member of the Year plaque. Dudley Smith wason hand to present the plaque to the first place winners of theAnnual Smith Rallye to long-time members Ken Sidorowicz andJennell Hal l . Special thanks to Mark Moody for taking on thethankless job of photographer to record all of these presentationsmuch appreciated! !

Going into 201 6 we have some good speakers l ined up for theinitial breakfast meetings, the Spassnacht event destinations forevery third Monday evening are set through the first quarter andwe already have the Apri l and May First Sunday Drives in theplanning stages. Many thanks to John Ryan and Ian Harns fortaking on the planning chores for these first two. We are activelyseeking help for the rest of the year, so please contact an officeror board member to volunteer to be a Drive Master, it would begreatly appreciated.

As always, do not hesitate to offer your comments, suggestionsand other productive feedback to your section leadership. Ourcontact info is always published in der Benz! and on our website:

After al l the presentations and speeches were done, we relaxed into ‘visitation mode’ and gaveeveryone a chance to justenjoy the company and theevening – although we thinkthat a lot of us l ingered in orderto put off facing the single-digittemperature outside! Wealways seem to pick thecoldest day of the winter for ourgala. During this time severalof the club officers distributedgifts to the attendees: a bottleof a fine German Riesl ing wineand something very practical: afolding / expanding truckorganizer bag emblazoned withthe KCMBCA logo. Thesuccessful gala was a result ofthe usual hard work andplanning by the sectionofficers: always a group effort. We’re already looking forwardto next year…except for theweather.
