THE SERIES* Eastern Oregon holds a 26-23 lead in the all-time series over Concordia.* The Mountaineers have won five straight games over CU since the Cavs won in Portland on Jan. 19,2008, 67-63.* EOU has won eight of the 11 matchups in La Grande since 2000, and 11 of 20 overall since 2000.* Concordia’s 47 percent shooting from the field is second in the Cascade Conference.* EOU is 57-4 in Quinn Coliseum in the last 61 games. Three of those losses are to Warner Pacific.* The Mountaineers own the all-time series over Warner Pacific, 25-20.* The series is 11-11 since 2000. Cavaliers are 27th in NAIA Div. 2 shooting 47 percent from the field as a team.Freshman Adam Herman leads the Cascade Conference in field goal percentage shoot-ing 63 percent. Gage Aker, a senior, is once again a leader in the CCC in assists throw-ing 4.69 per game. The Cavs will be searching for their first conference win of the sea-son. CU has not won in La Grande since Jan. 31, 2006, when it won 87-83.

LAST TIME OUTThe Mountaineers fell at No. 13 Oregon Tech, 89-78, on Dec. 18. The loss
extended the streak to 31 years since Eastern has won at Klamath Falls. OIT won its45th straight home game behind 28 points from Kyle Gomez. JC Cook led EOU with 19points, while Thomas McCarthy scored 15 behind 5 of 6 shooting from behind theperimeter. It marked the second time this season EOU was outrebounded, both timeswere losses. Eastern knocked off Southern Oregon, 80-68, the prior night in Ashland.McCarthy scored a team-high 19 points and hit 4 of 9 from three-point range. TheMountaineers shot 53 percent from the field in the second half. It was 158th meetingbetween the programs.
ABOUT THE KNIGHTSWarner Pacific has had more success in Quinn Coliseum than any other pro-
gram in the past five years. The Mountaineers have lost four games in La Grande in thelast 61 games, and three of those losses have been to Warner Pacific. WebsterMoreland leads the Knights this season. The senior is averaging a team-high 14.23points, 7.85 rebounds, and 2.62 assists per game. The Fairmont, Calif. native hasscored 51 points in his three games against EOU. WPC leads the CCC in offensiverebounds per game and is seventh in the nation with 16.39 per game.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 13 Eastern Oregon
University men’s basketball team advanced to the
Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament semifinals
with a 93-80 victory over Concordia University.
The second-seeded Mountaineers (22-7) built a 21-point
first-half lead over seventh-seeded CU. Eastern shot a
phenomenal 63 percent from the field in the opening
period. The Cavaliers shot very well in the first half as
well, 55 percent, but could not seem to stop EOU.
Dan Stafford paced Eastern Oregon in the quarterfinal
win with 17 points. The senior scored in double figures
for the 38th time in his two-year career at EOU. The
Auburn, Wash. native shot 6 for 9 from the field.
The Mountaineers led for the entirety of the game, and jumped out to a 7-0 lead three minutes
into the game. Concordia kept the lead at single digits until Eastern made a 12-0 run to extend
34-13 with 6:57 remaining in the first half. The Cavaliers closed within 12 points at the half, 49-37.
Concordia (15-15) came within eight points three times in the second half, the latest was with
15:49 remaining in regulation, 57-49. Eastern then put the game out of reach with a 21-2 run that
included a scoreless five minutes from the Cavaliers. The Mountaineers took the lead up to 27
points during that time period.
Alex Tiefenthaler led CU with 13 points. Jason Holzwarth and Kevan West each added 12 points,
and Drew Preuninger and Jeff Sego each had 10 points. The Cavaliers finished the game shoot-
ing 42 percent from the field.
Eastern finished with five scorers in double-digits led by Stafford. Josh Landsverk chipped in 16
points, Cody Thurmond had 15, and Steve Sawyers finished with 11. Jordan Gregg had his 18th
career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. EOU finished shooting 54 percent from the
field.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 20 Warner Pacific College
men’s basketball team upset No. 13 Eastern Oregon on
the road in the Cascade Conference semifinals, 64-61.
The third-seeded Knights (22-8) now advance to Tuesday’s
conference finals at top-seeded Oregon Tech.
Eastern Oregon fell for the third-straight year in the CCC
tournament semifinals. It was also the Mountaineers’ first
loss when holding an opponent under 70 points this season.
EOU previously was 12-0 in that stat category. It was only
the fifth time EOU has lost at home in the last 57 games in
Quinn Coliseum. Three of those losses are to WPC.
The Knights held second-seeded Eastern Oregon (22-8) to 29 percent shooting from the field in
the second half. WPC led for 32 minutes, including all 20 in the second half. EOU came close on
many occasions near the end of regulation, but could not tie the game or take the lead. A Kaylone
Riley jumper gave the Knights their largest lead, 48-38, four minutes into the second half. The
Mountaineers led 14-9 with 13:52 left in the first half. Dan Stafford's three-pointer gave EOU its
last lead with 12:14 left in the opening period.
Biniam Tadele had a career-high 17 points to lead Warner Pacific. The sophomore was 6 for 9
from the field, including a career-best 4 for 7 from behind the perimeter. Jake Glisson added 13
points, Reggie Guyton had 11, and Webster Moreland chipped in 10 points. The Knights finished
44 percent from the field, and 33 percent from behind the arc.
Jordan Gregg led Eastern with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Jacques Wilson added
12 points, going 4 for 6 for three-pointers.

NEW START TIMES FOR 2010-11A new doubleheader format featuring
men’s and women’s teams alternating timeslots in conference play headlines the releaseof the 2010-11 Cascade CollegiateConference men’s and women’s basketballschedules, CCC commissioner Dave Haglundannounced.
The first half concludes Jan. 15; thesecond half runs from Jan. 21 to Feb. 19.The CCC recently voted to modify the struc-ture of its conference doubleheaders, whichhistorically have featured the women playingat 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.Beginning with the upcoming campaign, gen-ders will split the two time slots. In the firsthalf of conference play in 2010-11, men willplay at 5:30 p.m. and women at 7:30 p.m.; inthe second half, the genders will flip timeslots. Men’s and women’s teams will flip theirplaying orders on a yearly basis.
DIALING LONG DISTANCEEastern is hitting its share of shots
from behind the perimeter this season. TheMountaineers are second in NAIA Div. 2 inthree-pointers made per game (10.46), and isthird in total three-pointers made (136). EOUis fifth in the country in three-point percentage(41%). Jamar Johnson is fifth in the countrywith his 51 percent shotting from three-pointrange. Thomas McCarthy is 8th in NAIA Div. 2with 43 three-pointers, making 3.0 per gamewhich is 13th in the nation. EOU’s three-pointfield goal percentage on defense is 11th.

MOUNTAINEERS LOVE FEBRUARYEastern Oregon has closed the season strong the past
few seasons. The Mountaineers have gone 14-3 in the month ofFebruary the past two years. Only Oregon Tech has done a bet-ter job finishing the regular season strong. The Hustlin’ Owls are15-3 in February the past two seasons. Warner Pacific is 12-5and Evergreen is 12-5 over the same amount of time.
BACK AMONG ELITE COMPANYThe Mountaineers moved up to No. 8 in the NAIA
Div. 2 Top 25 this week, thanks to their great start to the 2010-11 season. EOU is in the top 10 for the 14th time inschool history. Eastern last appeared in the top 10 before thisseason on March 4, 2009 when it was No. 10. The No. 8 rank-ing is the highest ranking since Dec. 1, 2008 when theMountaineers were No. 5.
LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARIESEastern Oregon is one of five teams to have made it
to the past three Sweet 16 rounds at the NAIA Div. 2 NationalTournament. Two programs in those five, Oregon Tech andEOU, are from the Cascade Collegiate Conference. There areonly a dozen teams that have made the national tournamentin each of the past three years, including Eastern.
CASCADING EFFECTThe Cascade Collegiate Conference has been a power
in NAIA Div. 2 in the past few years. The same is going for thisseason as the league is listed as the second toughest behind theMid-Central Collegiate Conference. EOU leads the league at No.8, Northwest is No. 11, and Oregon Tech is No. 13. SouthernOregon is receiving votes. The MCC has four ranked teams, andtwo others in the receiving votes category.
