“I came to Owen for Welcome Weekend, and I was sold. There wasn’t even another option after I came to visit.”

Maybe you’ve heard that all top business schools work the same. We politely disagree.

Graphic designer. Chicago native. Gymnast. These are just a few ways you could describe Erin before business school. She came to Vanderbilt to develop her professional skills and to learn about brand management. She got exactly what she came for. How to describe her now? Country music convert. Associate Marketing Manager. Mattel enthusiast.

We think part of the preparation for being a business leader is learning how to lead. So we teach that here, along with business fundamentals, analytical thinking and communication skills. We’re different that way.

We’re small by design. And selective. We don’t simply look for smart people. We scout for the right smart people—the persistent, the team players, the self-starters and adaptable problem solvers who will enhance everyone’s experience in a collaborative community.

We believe business is more than numbers. It’s personal. So we recognize that every person is different and let you tailor your experience here accordingly. Our world-class professors will know you personally, too, not just as teachers but as mentors and friends.

Sound like your kind of place so far? Please keep reading.

All Vanderbilt MBA students have one thing in common: They’re different. But while there’s no risk that we’ll ever reduce students to statistics and averages, here are a few figures that may give you a picture of who your classmates might be.

“Discover Weekend gave me a glimpse of a community that I haven’t found at other business schools.Whether I was talking with a member of the admissions staff, student or alumnus, the conversation always seemed to focus on what I want to accomplish, not on what I have already accomplished.”

He’s played rugby, traded derivatives and unloaded fishing boats in New Zealand. Now he is concentrating on growing his experience in the health care industry, and spending his summer interning at Amgen in Thousand Oaks, California. With the skills and knowledge he has picked up at Owen, there is no telling how far he will go.
