More than an MBA… An Ivey GradYou will only undertake an MBA once in your life – and making the decision about which school

to align yourself with is one that will stay with you for the rest of your career. When you choose the

Richard Ivey School of Business, you choose a history marked by accomplishments… and a future

filled with possibilities.

Richard Ivey School of Business pioneered international business studies in Canada, offering

Canada’s first honours undergraduate business degree in 1922. Later, in 1948, the school established

the country’s first MBA program. It’s all part of a proud brand tradition -- now over 60 years strong.

Ivey’s geographic scope is international -- the first business school to open a campus in Asia

in 1998. In 2005, Ivey revolutionized business education in Canada by re-engineering its curriculum

and, most recently, introduced the first 12-month MBA program focused on developing cross-

enterprise leaders.

But beyond the rankings and quantifiable measures of success is the intangible value of the Ivey

Experience. As one of a select few business schools in the world, in the good company of Harvard,

Darden, and IMD, who follow the true tenets of the case study method of learning, Ivey remains

distinct in Canada.

Ivey is truly a unique place to learn, grow and achieve. The intensity of the program and case work;

the extraordinary campus; the energized classroom environment and the bonding with other bright,

and highly-motivated peers all contribute to creating a truly life-changing experience.

At Ivey, learning isn’t a spectator sport. When top recruiters, business

leaders and our alumni told us business education needed to change,

we listened. Here, learning comes alive because we believe that the last

thing you need is another lecture. It’s a hands-on, learn-by-doing, action-

oriented approach to decision making that immerses you in complex,

real-world business scenarios.

The key is our unique learning approach featuring the case study

method. It immerses you in real-world problems where you quickly learn

how to analyze available data, develop options, make a decision, plan a

course of action and, ultimately, emerge with greater confidence.

Through hundreds of case studies and simulations, you’re exposed to

several years of real-life business knowledge in just 12 transformational

months. In our exclusive Ivey Cross-Enterprise Leadership™ (CEL)

approach and our hands-on, action-oriented method, learning is

accelerated and knowledge is absorbed faster. You emerge with a greater

ability to lead teams and become the go-to person in an organization.

“The Ivey 12-month MBA program is best described as transformational. You go in with a set of assumptions and beliefs on how business works and what leadership is only to emerge with an entirely new perspective on how to think, act and execute as a business leader. It is a learning experience unlike any other you have had or are likely to engage in during your lifetime.”

-- Rick Robertson, MBA Program Director

“Throughout my Ivey experience, I found myself leveraging the learning from that day in order to overcome the challenges presented to me. I am certain that once I leave Ivey, I will utilize these skills in the work environment where teamwork is vital in gaining a competitive advantage.”

-- Riccardo Cosentino, MBA Graduate

A Classroom You Have to ExperienceSit in on just one Ivey MBA class and your perception of what constitutes

a relevant, engaging learning environment will never be the same.

Each class is a journey through a complex, multi-disciplined business

challenge. Each one is a case study of the world of business as it really

is – where things rarely fit neatly into tidy functional boxes.

Ivey professors don’t “teach” so much as they orchestrate and

facilitate your learning and discovery. They lead debate, stimulate

discussion, challenge positions and, at times, teach in teams. Before

you know it, the class has dissected and analyzed the case from every

conceivable angle and developed action plans to address the issues.

Through Ivey’s unique action-oriented, hands-on approach, you

are learning the specifics of functional disciplines, like finance or

accounting, but you are also experiencing how each of these functions

impact one another. Each is a part of a greater whole and must work

within the context of the entire enterprise for any solution to work. This

broad perspective helps bring out the Cross-Enterprise Leadership

abilities the business community demands.

The insights, judgment, and ability to execute and implement

decisions that you need in the real world of business can’t be learned

straight out of a textbook. They have to be experienced, and cases are

Ivey’s flight simulator for business decision making. To us, the dynamic

and interactive case method is the only way to develop a truly enterprise-

wide skill set.

A life-changing learning experience requires a setting specifically

designed and equipped to cater to the needs of the students. The Ivey

Spencer Leadership Centre is such a place. It is the ideal environment

for one of the world’s premier MBA programs.

Housed in a Georgian manor on 30 tranquil, park-like acres, Spencer

offers state-of-the-art teaching amenities and technology. Everything,

from DK’s Cafeteria to the student lounge to the fully equipped gym, is

located under one roof so students are free from distraction and able to

concentrate on their learning.

Being located in London, Ontario means that most who are accepted

into the Ivey MBA program relocate into the community and commit

to focusing and fully investing in the MBA experience. Unlike a typical

commuter school, Ivey offers the unique opportunity to form much

stronger ties with fellow classmates. Enriching the experience even

more is the fact that students come from around the world, turning

Spencer into a global village with a rich diversity of backgrounds. Close

friendships are formed and the bonds created typically grow into lifelong

personal and professional relationships that are truly international.

As Canada’s only case-based business school, Ivey delivers a solid

foundation of business fundamentals, but also offers several unique

elements that set it apart from traditional business schools:

Cross-Enterprise Leadership – Develop a cross-enterprise • point of

view throughout the program, to better understand how functional

business skills are best applied in solving complex real world

business issues and opportunities.

Global Business Perspective – Examine major contemporary issues •

in Ivey’s GLOBE learning module that draws on experts and guest

speakers covering such topics as climate change, sustainable

development, corporate governance, social responsibility and

emerging markets.

Ivey Business Consulting Project – Participate in Canada’s longest •

running client field project, consulting for major corporations on

current business issues.

New Venture Projects – Develop a business idea from inception to •

“making the pitch” to investors and entrepreneurs.

International Learning Opportunities -- Travel abroad with Ivey’s •

China Study Trip, a 10-day elective course that tours local industry,

meets local business owners, and ties in-class learning with a real-

world perspective. Other long-standing traditions include the China

Teaching Project - where MBAs teach cases to students at top

universities in China; LEADER - where MBAs travel to Eastern

Europe to teach, consult, and help build entrepreneurial skills;

and Bridge - an opportunity to travel to Africa to implement

consulting recommendations tied to the Ivey Business Consulting

Project experience.

Quality Without compromise

An Incredible return on Investment (roI)

Learn more @ www. iveymba.ca

To compress the learning and benefits of a top-tier, internationally recognized MBA

program into only 12 months – without compromise – requires the kind of vision and

courage for which Ivey has long been recognized. In Ivey’s dynamic environment, students

analyze cases in learning teams – groups of bright, driven, and diverse people that

challenge each other to think differently about business issues. The faculty team is deeply

committed to student success and case teaching, and uses the classroom to ensure

students do more than simply absorb theories and facts. Students analyze conflicting data

and points of view, identify and prioritize goals, and make difficult decisions with incomplete

or uncertain information. It’s an approach reflective of the complexity of real business.

Once the program begins, students hit the ground running and don’t slow down for 12 life-

changing months.

The true costs of any MBA program go far beyond tuition. The total investment factors

in your lost income, incremental living expenses and time away from your career and

business network. You can go to www.iveymba.ca/roi to calculate your opportunity cost.

Earning an Ivey 12-month MBA will enable you to re-enter the job market sooner with

new skills, enhanced credentials and expanded possibilities. You start earning again in less

time without compromising your business education in the least. As a way to significantly

improve your ROI, consider Ivey.

Your Career Advantage

Unlike traditional business schools, where career management

is a downstream service as students approach graduation, ours is

a “boutique approach” in which we work with each student on a

one-to-one basis.

Ivey’s Career Management department interviews candidates as

part of the admissions process. From the time you attend your first

class, our Relationship Managers start working to help you prepare for

post-graduation career opportunities. During the first 12 weeks of the

program, the curriculum includes workshops and feedback sessions

solely focused on your career development. Career Management

specialists continue to work with you to help you to understand your

individual needs and career goals, and then help you develop your own

personal strategy for achieving these goals. Ivey helps you target the

right industries, sell yourself to organizations, build a profile of interests

and activities, develop networking skills and hone your interviewing

techniques. At Ivey, you not only learn the skills required to get your first

job after graduation, but also how to successfully navigate opportunities

and decisions throughout the rest of your career.
