On December 5, 2012, we welcomed a new edition into the Eisbrenner

clan our fth granddaughter, Islay Melody Eisbrenner was born!

Having moved to Winnipeg from Boissevain, we are able to interact

with our Winnipeg children and granddaughters much more extensively, and

we have been able to see Islay on an almost weekly basis since her bir th. Now,

almost 2 months old, she is becoming increasingly responsive with smiles and

such, and is becoming her own person she is unique and special and we

    love her deeply.

Islays life is just beginning and I know that many things lie ahead, many

moments of joy, but also moments of sadness the realities of life lie ahead ofher. Her birth was but the rst of many new beginnings new experiences new

    challenges.

And to some degree that factored in choosing the theme for this newest edition

of the Manitoba Missionary. The theme for this edition is New Beginnings,

and it is our desire to capture the essence of some of the new things God is

doing in each of our camping ministries across Manitoba. In the

pages that follow, you will be introduced to new staff, new ministry

    opportunities and new challenges.

The prophet Jeremiah in the midst of the struggles and trials of

his people voiced his praise when he concluded, The faithful love

of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His

faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. (Lam.

3:22-23 NLT). How grateful I am for the ministry of CSSM and for the

opportunities we are given in our various ministry points to introduce

children and youth to this new mercy as revealed in and through

    Jesus Christ.

In a few short months, the major focal point of our ministry will be in

full bloom as a new camping season begins. The Lord has called us as a

Mission to reach out to Canadians particular children and youth - who

have least opportunity to be introduced to our Lord and Savior, Jesus

Christ, and last year we were privileged to see almost 400 new babies

come into a relationship with Him. What a celebration there must have been in

    heaven in those days!

But the task is not yet done. God has called us to another new beginning to

again reach out to those with least opportunity to hear, and to proclaim the love

that He has for them. Thank you for standing with us in your prayers, in your

words of encouragement, in your sacricial giving of time, energy and resources.

Join me as we look ahead to new beginnings and rejoice with our God who said

    in Isaiah 43:19 -

I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not

see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers

    in the dry wasteland.

    ITS TRULY A FAMILY AFFAIR

when The Browns hit the stage with their

gospel music. The musical stylings of

Shelly, Michaela, Adam, and Andrew exude

excitement on the stage and offer a life-

changing experience to all who hear them. The

Browns deliver the powerful message of the gospel

through word and song that engage audiences of

    all ages.

The Browns have been touring across the United

States since the group began its full-time ministry

ten years ago. The heralded group began on the

local and state level and has expanded and grown

    into a national touring group.

Even when theyre not on stage or on tour, the

Browns manage to stay plenty busy on their farm

property west of LeMars, Iowa, which has served

to become somewhat of haven for the family away

from the road. We have to work a lot, cleaning

and washing our bus, Adam said. We enjoy life

at home. Theres just something about being in

the country. Ive always enjoyed it. Andrew, the

self-proclaimed life of the party, said touring on

the road can get a little crazy, but hes been able to

put things into perspective. Im thankful for what

Im doing, he said. I think its a special thing thatwe do. To add to the family experience, Shellys

husband Keith is the chief bus driver and sound

technician. Its denitely something that would be

hard to do if you werent called to it, Shelly said.

Because we know were called, its been worth

it all. God has opened the doors and there are

adventures and blessings behind each one.

This award winning family will inspire you

with their close-knit family harmony and talent.

The Browns love what they do, love each other, and

the audiences to whom they sing.CSSM Ministries Manitoba is excited to welcome

the Browns as the featured music guest for the 2013

CSSM Concert Tour. With their heart for ministry,

family, and the glory of God, the Brown familys

    heartfelt gospel message offers a l ife-changing

Have you ever had one of those

    embarrassing moments? You know

the moment where you have just said

something and you realize to your horror it would

have been better to keep your mouth zipped tight!

I have had many such moments in my six decades

of life. Perhaps the most unwise of these was when

in a casual conversation with my new neighbor, Ienquired when her baby was due! (and she wasnt

even pregnant!) I know, I know dumb. It was one

of those times when I wish I was golng.

    Why golng? you might ask.

Well, if you are a golfer who is really more of a

duffer, and youre playing with good friends, you

might ask for a mulligan. This is a fancy name for

a do-over you get to try your shot once again. Now,

as you might have guessed, a mulligan is never

legal under the rules of golf. Youll never see Phil

or Tiger asking for a mulligan. Mulligans are most

often used during friendly rounds of golf with good

golng friends and most importantly, this do-over

shot doesnt count against your score.

There are various explanation of where the term

mulligan came from, but long before the term

mulligan came into existence, the idea of a fresh

start or a new beginning originated with God. The

mulligan or do-over is, I believe, a wonderful

metaphor of what God has done for us through Jesus

    Christ, His beloved Son.

But God wanted to give us a mulligan a

do-over, to eradicate our bad shots from our

scorecard completely and forever, and therefore

sent Jesus Christ, His Son, to take all those bad

    shots on Himself.

John 3:16 tells us clearly what God has done for

us and that is that God gave up His one and only

Son to die on the cross so that we could have a

do-over shot at our relationship with Him. This

is Gods gift to each one of us freely givenand

although it is free, it is certainly not cheap. God

paid a very high price so that we could have this

do-over shot at eternal life with Him. It cost Him

the life of His beloved Son, Jesus.

This is grace, not that we deserved it, but

because He loves us so much that He desires to

give us another shot. And that is the message that

we at CSSM share with thousands of children,

youth and adults each and every year at our

camping ministries located across this great

province. Almost half of those we reach are not

from any type of church background and the

message of a do-over with God is an amazing one

    with awesome impact.

So, you can understand that it is with a heavy

heart that I make you aware that Beaver LakeBible Camp will not be operating this summer.

Mitch and Angie Osiowy, who have been

directors at BLBC since 2008, have left the

ministry. It is in light of this action, coupled

with some other factors which include not

having a local board in the Flin Flon area, and

increasing decit budgets, that this di fcult

    decision has been made.

But even in this, we see Gods hand at work in

    giving us a new beginning.

Our Adventure Day Camp teams have in thepast number of years been able to make some

inroads into the First Nations reserve in the area

and we will be increasing our efforts in this area

for this upcoming year. Please pray for Melanie

Mushaluk, our new Adventure Day Camp

Director who will be taking up this challenge

    with her team.

Will you join me as we place our trust in the

God of the mulligan. He is Christ in you, the

    hope of glory.

It was Gods intention that all humanity would be

able to play a perfect game, if you willto live a life

full of happiness and to walk in fellowship with our

Creator and with each other. All we had to do was to

keep one simple rule. Unfortunately, that was not to

be and we missed the shot sin was allowed to enter

into the world, and thus ruined everyones chance of

    ever having a perfect game.

Gimli is 85 years old this year. The oldest building on site is

probably our Chapel although one of the original cabins may

be as old. While the Chapel was well made and has been cared

for, its long, narrow shape is not conducive to being up close and

personal with the speakerso we have been having the younger

children sit on the floor of the dining room for the last few years so

they can be more attentive to the teaching. This summer we will have

a new 60 x 40 foot Chapel building that we can congure in ways that

will suit the various ages best. No more distracted boys kicking the

chairs in front of them or not being able to see the words of the songswe are singing. It can also be able to be used as a gym or for special

    events.

What is most important about this new building, however, is

that it will help us continue in the same old directionpresenting

the Gospel to those having the least opportunity to hear of Christ,

especially children and youth. New isnt always the same as

improved and we want to always guard against the temptation to

have the camp look better or have more exciting toys but fall short of

our calling to witness to our unchangeable God.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father, There is no shadow

of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they

fail not, As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Something else that never changes is our need every year for new

staff to share what God has done in their lives with the campers.

Young adults take on responsibilities and can no longer give up their

summers for missionary work. Others are called to serve for only one

summer, or one week, as He plans. But every week there is the need

for more labourers to be His hands in the sowing, fertilizing and

harvest. As our new Chapel lls with children who have never heard

the Gospel, my prayer is for those to heed the call to tell the old, old

story of Jesus and His love.

Clothed in the power of His love and grace, I saw a team

choose to lay down their lives this summer as they headedinto battle. Why? So that they may even see just one child

come to know the reality of a Father; so they could start again as a

new creation. This team felt the pulse of God beating within their

very hearts this summer. We felt it when we embraced a crying child,

gave countless hugs, heard small voices shouting God is good! and

prayed over hurts, families, and each other.

We experienced a love like no other. The wonder and beauty and

REALNESS of it No faade, no insincerity, no hidden agendajust

a raw, undiluted, powerful love that cannot be contained. This love,

when uncontained, radiates power. It has the force and capacity to

restore, rebuild, and renew lives forever. That is what happened thispast summer. We didnt just play games, build crafts, and sing some

songs; we left these children with something tangible a re burning

deep within their core; a feeling that they could take on the world. I

saw it burning in their eyes the need for something more.

When Tessa declared, God isreal, Hes real! on our 7th week of

camp after she had been healed, I k new she had seen the re burning

in Gods eyes. The eyes that exclaim, I would take on the world for

you I already have! Around her, her world screamed darkness

as families and lives crumbled in her community. But stars shine

brighter at night. Theres something about darkness that awakens

this powerful love; that causes it to rise and run af ter the One who

the power radiates from. In dark ness you truly see how nothing can

stand in loves way, nothing can quench it, and nothing can cause

it to back down NOTHING! Its purpose is to bring new life and

light. Leaving Tessa, I knew she would change her community. A

sense of hope and newness now pervaded that place for families,

addictions, abandonment, pains, losses, and more and it lived

    inside this little girl.

His heart cried out for those kids this summer, and we did all we

could to answer that cry. We only did what He told us to do. We loved

and loved welland therein lay our victory.

Not to long ago, I opened up a new book by Francis Chan

called Multiply. The whole premise of the book is for

people who follow Jesus otherwise known as disciples

to go out and continue to make disciples. Its exactly what Jesus

commissioned his disciples to do in Matthew 28 where he said, Go

and make disciples of all nations. Its called multiplication. Its not

something thats new to us, but something that we often need to be

    reminded of.

Teaching multiplication is one of our goals in Encounter. Our vision

for our students is CHANGE, GROW, LEAD. We want the Holy Spirit to

change us from the inside out, we want the roots of our faith to grow

down deep so that we have a solid foundation to stand on, and we

want to lead in whatever capacity God has called us to. We want our

students to go out and make disciples. For some of them it may mean

camp ministry, pastoral or youth ministry, and for others it may be in

their workplace being a welder, a nurse, or a farmer. Wherever God

has placed you, he wants you to make an impact for His Kingdom!

Our teaching in Encounter is: Gospel centered

    Foundational

    Practical

    Missional

Encounter is a mobile school of discipleship that travels coast to

coast in Canada. During the entirety of the school, we will not only

be taught by great teachers from across Canada, but we will also be

engaging in ministry in the different mission elds that we travel

    through!

Not only that, but if you love camp ministry, Encounter is a great

training ground for up and coming leadership staff! You get to stay at

7 camps across Canada and see how they do ministry. After you are

done Encounter, you have the option of entering a leadership position

at a camp for the summer to continue growing and learning to lead in

    a godly way!

Are you currently looking for something this coming fall? Consider

enrolling in Encounter! We are now taking applications for this

coming year! Our school begins September 27 in New Brunswick. For

    CSSM

    MINISTRIES

Camping ministry is dynamic and the ministry of Roseau

River Bible Camp has grown and changed over the years. A

key factor in adjusting to these dynamic changes has been

    the Roseau River Camp Board.

Within CSSM Ministries, whether in camping or church ministry,

boards play a huge role in how our Mission operates. Boards areresponsible for the governance of the ministry, setting policies and

procedures, determining the direction that the mission point is

going in and in casting that vision so that everyone connected to the

ministry can see clearly what lies ahead. In short, the board is also

responsible to ensure that the ministry is well run, nancially viable

and that we are being faithful stewards of all that God provides.

Roseau River Bible Camp is in most ways a typical CSSM

ministry point. The camps operation is overseen by the CSSM

Manitoba Field Director, but the governing body is the local

board of eight directors most of whom are representatives from

area churches. While the camp assets are owned and operatedby CSSM Ministries, this board of directors is charged with the

    moral ownership of the camp.

What does it take to be a board member? Glad you asked:

a strong relationship with Jesus Christ

a desire to serve and a passion for the unique ministry of

    Christian camping

a willingness to use your God-given gifts and talents

Ideally, any board should be made up of individuals who bring

a wide array of skills and expertise to the task of governing and

that is a great opportunity for new beginnings.

Canadian statistics tell us that over the next fty years, almost

40% of our population will be between the ages of 20 and 50. Young

adults are the future leadership of our communities and our mission.

And thats why a CSSM Ministries board is a great place to become

involved and be on the cutting edge of an awesome ministry.

Roseau River Bible Camp Board, like most boards, is always looking

for great board members. Do you desire to serve God and give voice to

your passion for camp ministry? Then contact your local camp. Talk

to your camp director and begin something newas a Camp Board

Member who takes part in the Great Harvest that the Lord has called

    us to.

It is amazing how God truly works! We are in the process of

constructing a new dining hall at Dauphin Bible Camp and it is

really amazing to see God at work throughout the process. The

building is 130 x 50, with a dining room, k itchen, dish pit, storage

area, washrooms. The upstairs has 6 bedrooms, a meeting area,as well as full bathrooms. The building will be used as the main

dining hall during the summer months, and as a rental facility to

host groups in the off-season, for meetings, retreats, conferences and

family gatherings. For many, this will be the rst time they will visit

our camp. It may be the time when they hear about the Lord for the

rst time or they may even come to know the Lord. God is already

doing some amazing work through this project, and we know that

    will continue in the future.

Having a building like the one that is being constructed is going

to open up the opportunity for the camp to reach further out into the

community. Many local businesses have had their workers deliver

materials to the camp, some for their rst time. One delivery person

got to hear about the truth of God, when he asked what happened

at a Bible camp. Building relationships with the community will

open up more opportunities for people to hear about the love of Jesus

    Christ.

The new building project will bring along New Beginnings at

Dauphin Bible Camp, whether it be new contacts, new campers,

or new people stepping foot on the camp. God is going to use this

opportunity in a more powerful way and allow people to have a new

beginning, as they come to know who He is and what He has done.

    I didnt have potatoes, so I substituted rice;

I didnt have paprika, so I used another spice

I didnt have tomato sauce, I used tomato paste

A whole can, not half a can, I dont believe in waste.

A friend gave me the recipe She said you couldnt beat it.

There must be something wrong with her we couldnt even eat it.

Afriend said she didnt think I wrote this poem (although I

certainly could have), because she wasnt sure she had ever

heard of anything that wasnt eaten at our house! A card

to our kids at Christmas said, Thought about baking you cookies...

but gured youd rather have the dough. We knew they would

denitely appreciate the dough over moms baking!

When visiting our grandchildren in ON, I decided to make

memories with Madelyn (3) by teaching her everything Nana knowsabout cooking. (Needless to say, that was a short lived lesson .) I had

picked up cool jello molds for 25 cents, and with a recipe for jello

jigglers (where you only need to add hot water and jello), what could

possibly go wrong? Unfortunately, the results were denitely not

nger foods. I tried to convince Madelyn they really werent to look

like those shapes and one was suppose to use a straw! Undaunted, we

progressed to cookies and mufns. It would take too long to explain

insufcient frozen bananas, Madelyns oops when dumping the

flour, discovering no matter how nice ones timer looks, it doesnt

help when you forget to turn it on...and later discover when you do

use it, that it doesnt work. When all was said and done, the only goodpart was searching for the chocolate chips. No wonder campers and

staff appreciate delicious homemade cookies prepared by grandmas

and ladies who actually know how to cook!

Apart from the gingerbread house kit we enjoyed eating the

decorations. Our last venture was making stew; I found a simple

recipe on-line (Sherri didnt have any cookbooks--she must be my

daughter). I had Madelyn toss the chopped potatoes and veggies

into the crock pot with the meat. After dumping in a can of diced

tomatoes, I learned Chris doesnt like tomatoes. I didnt know Sherri

only had ONE mufn pan, so it took most of the day to cook the double

batch of mufns. By the time I checked the stew, it was overcookedand dried out. It was a good thing, since I didnt need to thicken it, as

Sherri didnt have any flour or cornstarch! Meanwhile, the crock-pot

meal was raw after cooking it on high all day. Apparently the can of

tomatoes should have been added last, as the acid tends to keep things

    from cooking!

SO...lots of lessons learned. Mainly, that children are loving,

forgiving and just want to spend time with you. Ill continue to make

memories and enjoy life to its fullest reading, giving horsy rides and

treasuring every moment with my grandchildren! Life is too short to

    sweat the little stuff.

We work together with the high school students from

MacGregor, using the resources we have here at the

camp such as our buildings, the tubing hill, our kitchen

facility, our land and the Asparagus eld to teach them skills that

will help them in building a brighter future. We have such an

opportunity! Not only do we get to teach these youth a good work

ethic, but we get to show them Jesus! Were working shoulder to

shoulder with these kids, teaching, mentoring and discipling them!During November and December some of our staff and Ken, a

retired carpenter, worked with three guys from the school worked on

several projects. Together, they renovated our basement in the lodge,

set up the tubing hill for a busy winter, and did general maintenance

    around the camp.

In January we began building furniture with them, which we will

sell. We also ran the tubing hill with them, enjoyed fellowshipping

over making and enjoying good food.

Our aim is to teach them life skills. We want to show them that hard

work pays off. We also desire to show them the love of Jesus through our

conversations, our actions, and to challenge them to see that Jesus is the

reason for living! He is the only One who can change a heart of stone!

We have received encouraging afrmation from teachers, principals

and youth leaders saying that they can see a difference in these boys

lives! Its so humbling and crazy exciting to hear that He is using me, this

under qualied guy, to help Him in reclaiming lives for His Kingdom.

Four summers ago, at age 18, I hopped on a Greyhound bus in

Ontario and headed west with a friend. Little did we know

that the summer would be the beginning of an incredible life

    changing experience.

My journey began in April 2010. My friend and I had passed our

NLS certication to be lifeguards. Two weeks later my mom came

home from a ladies weekend in Wawa, where Kathy Weir was theguest speaker. My mom came in the door and asked, How would

you like to go to Manitoba and work at a camp this summer? At that

moment I had no thought or fear that said I shouldnt go. Now, you

have to know me. Im a home-body who doesnt try new things. I

tend to worry and would normally never dream of going somewhere

so far away where I knew absolutely no one. God was at work and

    honoured our obedience.

There is no doubt that God brought us to camp, and He has changed

our lives entirely because of it. Along with lifeguarding, they needed

cabin leaders for the 1st session of High School campers. Only God

could have orchestrated me counseling with Jenni Weir (who hadbeen my 1st cabin leader when I attended Galilean Bible Camp in ON

when I was little). My rst summer at Turtle Mountain Bible Camp

taught me the importance of a strong, unied camp family team. It

was amazing to be new, yet feel so accepted by everyone. Looking

back, I see how important beginnings are. I was stretched out of my

comfort zone and that experience challenged me to see new staff

as family and strive to make their beginning at camp one they will

    never forget.

I have evidenced so many wonderful changes with new

beginnings in campers lives, as they begin to understand God is

real and His amazing love for them. Camp is about relationshipsas campers and staff encounter God and new beginnings as they

surrender and chose to follow Him.

God can take you as you are, no matter your past, or present, and

give you a new beginning. I wanted to program last year, but felt so

inadequate. I thought I wasnt good enough, smart enough, creative

enough. God opened that door and reminded me it wasnt about me.

He chose me and promised to enable me to do the job of sharing His

love with others. Im super excited to be heading back for my 4th

summer to watch many new beginnings in the lives of others. I cant

wait to see all that God has in store!

    O

ne of the most enjoyable aspects

of my work is to meet with

    individuals, hearing stories of

their lives and assist ing them as theyseek to be faithful with the resources

God has given them. Reading the

Manitoba Missionary is a little like

those visits over the kitchen table with

    donors.

It is exciting to read stories of

    individuals who have either been

impacted by the ministry of Canadian

Sunday School Mission in the past

or who are currently involved in

impacting others through CSSM today. In many stories the individual arrives at

a fork in the road and must decide how

to respond. Would they respond to the

invitation to accept Christ? Would they

respond to Gods leading to be involved

in Camp Ministry for the summer or for

    a longer period of time?

    Behind each decision to become

involved in ministry at a CSSM camp (or

any variety of other ministry decisions)

is a network of people who also made

    some decisions and are providing

support - either prayer support, nancial

support, or both. As readers of the

Manitoba Missionary you are part of

that network of supporters. Whether you

    are nancially supporting a particular

camp missionary, a specic camp or

CSSM ministries in general, your support

is building a legacy. It is the legacy of

CSSM. It is also your own legacy.

    A LASTING LEGACYASSISTING GENEROUS PEOPLE

    WRITTEN BY HAROLD PENNER

Whether your legacy is one of faithful

intercessory prayer or of faithful, joyful,

generosity, it is a testament to your

participation in something bigger thanyourself. Your story may not make the

pages of the Manitoba Missionary or

the Winnipeg Free Press. However, your

legacy can have an impact now and can

continue to have impact long into the

    future.

What kind of legacy are you building?

Are you interested in speaking with

someone about the legacy you would

like to create with the resources God

has entrusted to your care? MennoniteFoundation of Canada (MFC) has been

    helping individuals extend their legacies

through planned giving for almost forty

years. We help them understand their

options for current and end of life gifts and

facilitate the forwarding of funds to their

favorite charities. With this in mind, CSSM

has partnered with MFC to assist their

    supporters with planned giving.

    Perhaps you own publicly traded

    investments that have appreciated in

value, or you are interested in donating

a new or existing life insurance policy.

Or you may wish to discuss how you can

structure your will to make a gift to charity

from your estate. Call Wayne Eisbrenner or

Harold Giesbrecht at the CSSM ofce and

they will connect you to an MFC ofce near

you to discuss your options and facilitate

your charitable gifts. We would love to help

you extend your legacy of generosity.

any of you have been asking how our house renos are

coming along. Others got the impression from the last

waiting for this harsh winter to move on.

To supplement our income in anticipation of the upcoming

expenditures, Natalie has taken a position at Manitoba PublicInsurance. The good news here is that, should you be in a collision in

the near future, theres a 0.5% chance youll get to talk with my wife

when you call in your accident report.

As you can imagine, with taking hundreds of calls each week,

Natalie occasionally gets some that are, shall we say, interesting.

While were limited with what we can share, here are some of our

favourites, from a variety of sources:

An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car and

    vanished.

I thought my window was down but found out it was up when

I put my head through it.

A pedestrian hit me and went under my car.

Coming home, I drove into the wrong house and collided with

    a tree I dont have.

I collided with a stationery car going the other way.

I had been driving for 40 years when I fell asleep at the wheel

    and had an accident.

I pulled away from the side of the road, glanced at my mother-
